I have explored the 5 models of marriage and their influences on the Western legal traditions for better or worse, and decided to reflect on the Calvinist covenantal model. Although according to Witt, all the models have helped to drive the development of Western marriages and family law. In my findings the Calvinist model resonates and differs from my own prospective most.

Unknowingly, I have inherited various theologies of marriage influenced by Calvin and thus I differ as well. Calvin would be very disturbed if he was here today and obviously, from the look of things, we don't necessarily need marriage to procreate children. Yet, I believe that God foresaw this ahead of time and out of divine intervention created a way that human kind would accommodate children that are born out of wedlock, by bringing forward ideas such as adoption etc. God knew what was to happen, because God knows us better then we know ourselves. As a result these children are placed into loving homes of people to care for them, such as unwedded single straight, same sex and also married individuals etc. and lastly, Mary, the mother of Jesus. Although Mary may have possibly been married to Joseph, the two did not procreate to conceive Jesus, there is no historical wedding evidence documented in the Bible about Mary and many of the other couples that had children … most couples were perceived as married.
