There have been many discoveries that have shaped our nation as a whole. Discoveries have allowed our country to thrive and become one of the most powerful nations in the world. When we look back at our nation's rich history, it is clear to see that there was one discovery in particular that had a vast impact on the United States; the discovery was gold in California. It was in this vastly unoccupied territory that the American dream was forever changed and California emerged as a powerful state busting at the seams. The California Gold Rush shaped California into the state that it is today. California is defined by its promise of entrepreneurial success and its acceptance and encouragement of obtaining the American Dream.
During the late 1840's California did not show much promise or security. It had an insecure political future, its economic capabilities were severely limited and it had a population, other than Indians, of less than three thousand people. People at this time had no idea of what was to come of the sleepy state in the coming years. California would help boost the nation's economy and entice immigrants to journey to this mystical and promising land in hopes of striking it rich.
In 1839 a man by the name of John Sutter arrived in California. Sutter appeared to be somewhat of a drifter, and had failed to establish himself before arriving in California. However, in the land of great promise, he planned to establish an empire for himself. Sutter was granted eleven square leagues, or 50, 000 acres, in the lower Sacramento area. California was becoming known for its entrepreneurial opportunities; soon many were coming to California, not to work in the mining filed, rather to set up business and cater to the mining communities. Soon there were saloons, hotels, and red light districts spread throughout San Francisco and outer mining communities. Women who were forced to rely on men to support them back home, came to California and were able to work and support themselves in these towns.
On January 24, 1848, Gold was discovered at Sutter’s Mill In Coloma California. This discovery, immediately spread around the globe. People from all different parts of the world came to California. People called it the place for a new beginning. California quickly became the most popular state in the United States. Even immigrants from Asia and Europe were coming to California just to get their hands on this precious gold. This also greatly affected the United States as we know it today.
Through visiting La Plaza De Culturas Y Artes, I have learned a lot more interesting, yet, surprising new information about the Chicano history in California. For example, in the 1910’s and on the high immigration of Mexicans and other Chicanos, into coal mines and farms by major corporations, made California one of the richest states in the US. I also learned that most of California 's economy was heavily reliant on immigrants. Immigrants were the preferred worker for major corporations because they didn 't have American rights and were given the harder jobs for less pay.

Professors and scholars over the last two decades from various fields of study have taken a deeper look into the Gold Rush phenomena. When California joined the Union in 1850 it helped the U.S. expand westward just as most Americans had intended to do. The event of the Gold Rush can be viewed as important because it led to a national railroad. It also provided the correct circumstances for successful entrepreneurship, capitalism, and the development modern industrialization. The event also had a major influence on agriculture, economics, and politics.

Gold Rush 1849 was the reason for such a frenzy. It caused people to migrate to California from near and far too dig for gold from the river. According to the film, The Chinese Exclusion Act Explained: US History Review, “This attracted Chinese entrepreneurs to try to make it rich”. The Chinese was one of the cultures that was one of the cultures that left their home to find a better life for their families. However, after being greeted in the United States, they were discriminated against them since they were feared by the Europeans. Racism towards the Chinese immigrant caused a lot of hardship on them in the Western civilization, enabling them to enter or exit without returning to the States.
During the gold rush, almost everyone traveled to the western coast in hopes of becoming rich for the very same reason. This affected the United States economically because certain regions or areas would produce specific products such as cattle products or dried meat. These products would boost export, and the California trade with other countries or nations by doing that the economy would grow.This would cause different types of people to live in separate areas depending on wealth or trade that the family specified in.

Many people took this challenge either making their fortune or coming up more broke than they already were. The Klondike Gold Rush played a major role in shaping peoples lives and a time in American history. My paper consists of 3 main topics: first, what people had to go through to get there; second, the harsh conditions they had to endure when they got there; and lastly, the striking at rich part or if at all they did get rich.

Among those characters we meet Thomas Larkin and Juan Bautista Alvarado; both individuals played a pivotal role in California entrance to the United States in the mid 19th century. Each one played a different role, always striving to benefit their community and as well as their own interests first; however, regardless of their own personal goals, their decisions ultimately collaborated with California’s incorporation to the United States.

The phrase Manifest Destiny means the idea that americans were destined to expand westward by the word of god. That Many Americans were interested in western expansion, and that all groups benefited from Manifest Destiny. The Mexican American war was when the mexican government found out that the treaties had signed with texas in April 1844, it would consider such an act a declaration of war, in which allowed them to achieve Manifest Destiny. In 1848, word of gold in california spread, because of this, everyone migrated to california. A group of people were called the forty-niners,they traveled 18,000 miles around the tip of south America to benefit from the gold rush. Since much of california `was desert, arguing over water rights were common, the balance between free and slave states would not be equal and southerners feared that the Northernern States would have enough votes to abolish slavery. It’s eighteen forty eight, and the talk of gold is widespread, many people pack up and head to California. The California Gold Rush has just begun. The California Gold Rush was a difficult time for most people because many did not find gold. Some did, but others made a long difficult journey for nothing. Individuals faced many challenges during The California Gold Rush like the length of the journey and which route the miners took, not every forty-niner found gold, and there was a big risk for disease.
California's became highly associated with the Gold Rush, that as a result it became known as the "California Dream." It was perceived as a place of new beginnings that would bring you happiness and prosperity. It offered great wealth to those who were lucky and worked hard. This opened many doors to anybody around the world that wanted to explore and see this land that gave you all the things a person would want. The way people went foolish that got involved into the gold fever because of the terrible conditions they lived in. This really impacted California in becoming the industrial and powerful state it is today. The people that came to California brought business and there opportunities that helped the state grow more than you could imagine.
