California Baptist University
California Baptist University (CBU) is located in Riverside, California on a 142 acre campus. There is a population of 7,957 students with a 100% Christian faculty and staff. On average, 35% of students are men and 65% women. There are 150 undergraduate majors offered, and 45 graduate majors. Some majors offered that I am interested in are in the College of Architecture and Visual Art and Design, as well as a Pre-Physical Therapy and Kinesiology. I have a strong interest in both graphic design type fields, as well as a science and fitness interest in physical therapy.
Requirements for admittance are the most stringent of the three Universities I have researched. Applicants must submit an application along with

a $45 nonrefundable application fee, a 3-5 paragraph essay on what you hope to gain from your experience at CBU, 2 letters of recommendations (one academic and one personal reference), transcripts, 2.5GPA, and test scores from SAT or ACT that are used for placement and for scholarship or grant opportunities, all of which seem quite attainable. Examples of merit scholarships offered include the Women of Vision Scholarship, Dean’s Scholarship, and President’s Scholarship, Athletic Scholarships as well as more. Being a private Christian University, tuition rates are quite high at $13, 806 per semester. Graduation rates are 56% complete in 4 years 64% in 6 years. Freshman retention is 77%, while the student to teacher ratio is fairly good at 18:1. A variety of athletics are offered including baseball, basketball, wrestling, swimming, soccer, golf and my sport of interest, women’s volleyball. They have won several national championships in their athletic history and compete in NCAA Division II. Activities include various clubs and campus traditions such as TWIRP (the woman is required to pay) where girls invite guys to fun activities throughout week such as a barn dance with a costume contest, or a trip to Magic Mountain. Campus visits are welcome. For high school seniors, visits can be arranged individually or as groups. 24@CBU is a 24 hour visit that immerses students into the college experience. Meeting with deans and professors, sitting in on classes, eating at dining halls, spending the night in a residence hall, and even sitting in on chapel and listening to their award winning choir perform. CBU also has a virtual tour on their website that gives a sneak peak to the campus. Things that draw me to California Baptist University are that it is a Christian based University, offers athletic scholarships, offers majors that interest me, and is located on the West Coast. This college is close enough to home that I could visit more often than other potential options. In addition, my family has vacationed frequently in Southern California, making a familiar place to me. Lastly, being one who appreciates the sun more than the clouds and rain, the climate is much warmer than Oregon. Lubbock Christian University Located in the panhandle of Texas, Lubbock Christian University is in the city of Lubbock, considered the cotton capitol of the United States.
Slightly larger than Salem, Oregon, this comfortable town has sun 263 days per year! This is a small University with a student population of only 2, 135 students with a distribution of 37% men and 63% women. Student teacher ratio is excellent at 12:1 so there is more individual time for students. There are 87 majors resulting bachelor’s degrees, 31 graduate majors, and 2 associate degrees offered which is quite large considering the size of the student population.
Minimum requirements for admittance are undeniably simple and achievable with a score of 18 on ACT 860 on SAT. Tuition is set at $19, 400 per year. Scholarships offered include the LCU Ambassador (honors ACT of 27 or SAT of 1210), Christian School Scholarship (anyone who graduates from a private Christian school receives $500 per year if you maintain 2.5 GPA), as well as a National Merit Scholarship that the finalist can receive full tuition for all 4 years if a 3.0 GPA maintained. Athletics include basketball, baseball/softball, soccer, volleyball and cross country. LCU has more than 25 student organizations and more than 13 intramural sports. Activities are many with an emphasis on chapel, fitness, and nearby recreational activities that can occur on Buffalo Springs Lake. They too have a TWIRP week, apparently a popular activity in college life, just as California Baptist

University. The freshman retention rate is 64% while the graduation rate is 43% in 4 to 6 years. Placement rates for post graduate programs in the medical field are high at 90%. Majors of interest to me are a Bachelor of Exercise Science with an emphasis in Pre-Physical Therapy or Digital Arts Media. Things that draw me to Texas are the small class size, low teacher to student ratios, the majors offered, as well as the opportunity for a scholarship due to my high school Christian education. I continue to be drawn to Christian Universities to carry on the principles and values that I have grown up with, and am drawn to the warm climate of Texas. Also Lubbock, Texas being not an overbearingly large city, is big enough to find things to do but small enough to feel safe. They welcome campus visits which can be arranged through private campus tours or through Chap Day which include tours of campus, meeting with professors, sitting in on a class, and lunch. Though it is many miles from home, it is still an option I would consider when choosing a college to attend. Grand Canyon University Grand Canyon University is a private Christian University that is located in Phoenix, Arizona. There are 8 colleges within university, and over 100 majors including undergraduate and graduate degrees. Of interest to me is a Bachelor of Science in Biology with an emphasis in Pre-Physical Therapy or a Bachelor of Arts in Digital Design. There are 8,500 students attending GCU, and 23% are men and 77% are women. The student to teacher ratio is 20:1. The application process and admission requirements are quite simple with high school transcripts proving a 3.0 GPA or higher or an ACT of 19 or SAT of 920. Tuition is $8250 per block. There are multiple scholarships offered, making GCU lucrative. There are 6 freshman scholarships ranging from $12,000 to $4750, all academic in nature. The Chancellor Scholarship gives $12,000 per year living on campus or $10,000 living off campus with an incoming GPA of 4.0 and maintains a 3.75 GPA with full time enrollment. The President Scholarship gives $9,750 on campus or $8750 off campus with an incoming GPA of 3.8 to 3.99 and maintains a GPA of 3.5 during school. The freshman retention rate is 65%, and the graduation rate 31%. Athletics include the basketball, baseball/softball, golf, tennis, soccer, track, and include both men and women’s volleyball and sand volleyball. They compete in the NCAA Division II Conference. Activities include athletic events, chapel, intramural sports, fitness center, pool and spa. The Christian focus is evident in the Department of Spiritual Life providing spiritual opportunities for leadership and discipleship, with weekly Chapel and the Gathering services, as well as community outreach, and weekly bible studies.
Santiam Christian has emphasized and matured my Christian values which are a priority when researching colleges. GCU has always been an interest of mine due to the financial incentives for students from our school, scholarship opportunities, volleyball, and is located in a warm climate. In addition, there are incentives and opportunities to visit Grand Canyon University even as a junior, which is of interest to
me. GCU offers student guided tours of the campus including classroom and lab visits, a dorm suite, and some of the recreational facilities such as Thunder Alley, the Student Rec Center and the Student Union. 360 degree virtual tours are also available on the GCU website for those who are interested. Special connections with Grand Canyon University even give some financial incentives for students from Santiam Christian to visit the campus. My goal this year is to travel to the GCU campus for a tour. This will give me an opportunity to see if this University is one of the top contenders for my college selection process. I have visited Arizona several times in my life and always enjoyed my time there, finding it comfortable and suitable for my life after high school. Looking through my options, GCU is still at the top of my list because of sports, what courses it offers, and scholarship partnerships that are offered by GCU through Santiam Christian. Honestly, I would prefer carrying out my education after high school from a Christian stand point so I can continue to learn a build up my foundation of faith before completely stepping out independently. 1459 words
I would hope to allow myself to distinguish myself from other students and make myself more prevalent and outstanding in my specific classes. As I would like to purse a degree in Psychology with a minor in Criminology, I would like to become an ‘All around Psychologist’ dabbling in numerous sections of the ‘Psychology life.’ It is my belief that this HBCU would give me all mental and educational tools that will aid me in being the best in my chosen field. It is not that I do not like the educational system at my current university, it is just that i feel as though I can excel beyond measures at my new university coming this Spring.

Bethune Cookman University is a wonderful, loving historical black university. With every positive there has to be a negative. There are many challenges for Bethune Cookman University’s First Time Freshmen. Financial aid is the greatest of all. Being a private institution makes expenses more costly than State Colleges. First Time freshmen paying tuition and/or college loans make money matters at the top financial challenge. Students just coming out of high school do not have a lot of money. Not all students will be ready for the financial hassall, BCU Financial aid department will to put them through. Not many students have saved up enough money even if they have been working since they were younger. In High School, Teens don 't really think about saving for financial difficulty they may run
I would like to attend UTK because I heard that it is a great school. The student –faculty ratio is 17:1, and the school has 27.9 percent of its classes with fewer than 20 students. Most of their classes are 20-49 students, that’s the perfect size for me. The Vol Nation really cares about the success of their students and the quality of their education. They offer classes all day at any time and they also have summer courses. That’s a good thing because I’m an early riser and I could take my classes earlier in the day and have time to get all my work done. Since they offer classes during the summer I could take more
Since BSC is Test Optional, I believe that there should not be a test score requirement. I believe the minimum GPA to apply should be a 2.5. I believe a separated essay and interview should be required for this scholarship. A scholarship committee should produce possible scholarship questions. The deadline shall be February 1st.
* Now accepting applications for Spring, 2005. Interviews are in March and classes are in April and May.
It is located in Chicago, Illinois. The required ACT score is between 31 and a 34 composite score. There is no GPA requirement, but you have to be in the top 10% of your class. Only about 9% of all applicants get accepted. There’s about 15,048 people. The undergraduate population is 5,703 and the graduate population is 6,928. 53% of the population is male and 47% is female. The faculty to student ratio is 6:1. The University of Chicago is best known for is school of medicine, which is very compelling to me. The tuition is about $44,178 per year. And the meal plan plus housing is about $14,715 a year. Totally roughly $58,893 a year. The University does offer financial aid to students . The University of Chicago offers division one sports. They offer two sports that i found interesting, Women’s tennis and track and field. The atmosphere of the school is both scholarly and challenging. The University of Chicago compares well to my ideal college.
... learned at CBU, in addition to ways such as challenging students to grow in their faith while learning. For example, I would suggest that they use ideas and scriptures that they learned in Bible study or in church within the past weeks of assignments. This will help to keep students engaged with the material and faith based concepts that they have learned within the weeks. Also, I think promoting attending CBU or church based activities for assignments can help students learn course material as well as grow in their faith. I believe that faith integration is an important component that CBU offers that many other universities do not. I can honestly speak to how beneficial it was for me to complete my program at CBU. I not only learned a wealth of knowledge in the counseling field but I grew as a Christian, which is something that I wish to pass on to future students.
University of Central Florida offers a wide variety of majors that can fit almost everyone’s interests. It is located in Orlando, Florida. The school has an enrollment rate of 41% with GPA’s ranging from 3.4-3.7 and SAT scores ranging from 1800-2100. The in-state tuition for 1 year is $6247. Most universities require four English credits, at least three math credits, at least two foreign language credits, at least two social studies credits, and at least two laboratory science credits to accept students into the school. However, these schools do look at test scores and students with a musical background do tend to have higher test scores. Additionally, if there is a question between two possible applicants, colleges will look at extracurricular activities. Whichever student has the most impressive list of extracurricular activities is more likely to get accepted than the other.
“The school has a 69% acceptance rate. Last year, 9,061 out of 13,213 applicants were admitted making XU a moderately competitive school to get into with a strong chance of acceptance if you meet the requirements.” (“college data”). This acceptance rate is very high so I have a higher chance of getting accepted into this college if I meet the requirements needed. According to “CollegeXpress” “the acceptance rate of Texas Southern University is 51%”. In spite of Texas Southern having great GPA requirements to get accepted, their acceptance rate is very low which means it is more competitive to get into the college. Lastly “the acceptance rate of Florida A&M University is 48.9%” (“peterson”). Overall I think Florida A&M University is a great college, but the acceptance rate is too low. Although Florida A&M University has a better track team than Xavier, in fact the college is a Division 1
FSU is a pretty popular school with an enrollment number of 25,956(Choices, 4). Out of the 25,965 people who enroll 55% are female and 20% are minorities and another 20% are from out of state (Choices, 4). The fact that it's so popular adds to the reason why it's hard to get into FSU. Out of 21,159 applicants only 13,578 get accepted and In order to be accepted SATI and/or ACT tests must be taken and scores of at least a 400-499 on both math and verbal for the SATI test and an 18-23 for the ACT test must be met (Choices, 2-3). Also needed is a 3.0 GPA minimum to get in (Choices, 3). All these requirements factored in set the entrance difficulty level at very difficult (Choices, 2).
I have qualified for the dean's list three of the last four semesters, currently carry a 3.59 junior/senior GPA and a 3.75 GPA in my major. I also have been accepted into Psi Chi and belong to the Psychology Club on campus.
To start with, CSCC and UTK both provide scholarships that will help pay for expenses. Cleveland State offers scholarships such as the Tennessee Scholars Scholarship and the Principal’s Academic Service Scholarship. To qualify for these scholarships is quite simple. A student must receive a minimum score of a 19 on the ACT, dedicate time to earn
When making a decision on where to attend college as a working adult with a family, I had to find a college that could accommodate my busy lifestyle. My husband, as a Marion Technical College (MTC) alum, suggested that I give MTC a try and see what they offered. Upon further research and a trip to campus, I quickly realized MTC was the perfect option for me with online classes, helpful staff, affordable tuition, and a convenient location. I started classes in Fall of 2013 and found many additional benefits after becoming a student. I was able to become a member of the National Society of Leadership and Success (NSLS) and am currently the President of the Beta Nu Pi chapter of Phi Theta Kappa. I am actively involved in promotions for Phi Theta
