With so many eligible county’s residents to serve, it can be challenging for the LA Department of Public Social Services to attend to their every needs. The department has a lot of caseloads because consumers’ needs are growing. I wanted to know how serious was this organization on their value of participation and came to find out that on the department’s website, they show a calendar of their events where the public can come and ask for information on how to enroll for CalFresh and other benefits that they offer. Knowing that their recent events on the calendar includes “Healthy Choices” workshop, “Free Health & Housing Services” info session, and “Compton Worksource Center” workshop, makes me appreciate their work on continually finding ways
The industry analysis for Beyond the Bean holds a few differing positions. One of these main factors in determining where exactly their business will be placed in the industry has to do with the option of serving alcohol to customers. As mentioned above, there are a few different competing businesses in the same type of industry that are in the area of London, Ontario. Some implications for the proposed venture include the other competing business called Palasad and Fleetway. Both of these businesses have bowling, billiards, food and drink. The one aspect that all three have in common is social and recreational experiences among friends. So, Beyond the Bean will already have direct competitors in the industry when they decide to enter.

I selected the Beacon to complete my service learning assignment over two days. The Beacon, a nonprofit day center that provides services to Houston’s homeless, is located at 1212 Prairie and staff can be reached at (713) 220-9737. The Beacon’s website, www.chomhouston.org, provides comprehensive information on the history of The Beacon and the services they provide. Established in 2007 by Christ Cathedral Church, The Beacon is currently open to serve clients Friday through Monday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. However, starting in April, The Beacon will begin opening on Thursday to provide services five days a week (Chomhouston.org, 2014). My contact, Zachary Hubenak, is the kitchen Coordinator and informed me the population The Beacon serves has grown 10 fold since its inception. Hubenak, additionally ,told me The Beacon served 80 people on its inaugural day and serve over 700 now on a daily basis (personal communication, January 28, 2014). My first day of service saw the population hit almost 800 and no one was turned away.
It was once assumed that the government would provide services for veterans, but nonprofit organizations and communities have been picking up the slack to help veterans get back on their feet after returning home. The government is dependent on nonprofit organizations to supply veterans and their families with the necessary goods and services. The Wounded Warrior Project (WWP) is an organization that provides services for veterans and their families. The WWP focuses on mind, body, economic empowerment, and engagement, all things that help veterans through post-war symptoms (The Wounded Warrior Project). The government is recommending giving less housing allowances, limiting pay raises, and having higher fees for health care benefits; other cuts would include stores being unable to give discounts to military families (Nissenbaum and Barnes). The amount of money veterans receive for housing, health care, and retirement is being cut left and right by the government and the money is being used and put towards other departments. In California, The County Veterans Service Officers Inc. plays a very important role in verterans’ lives (California Association of County Veterans Service Officers, Inc.) Many organizations help veterans who are in need of services because our government is not always able to provide...
City Team San Jose is a not-for-profit organization that offers help to those people that are suffering from poverty; addicted to drugs; and are homeless in San Jose, California (City Team San Jose, 2016). This organization provides food, shelter, clothing, and much more to these people, who are in need. City Team San Jose receives all the materials, which it distributes to the needy, as donations from supporters and well-wishers of its mission (City Team San Jose, 2016). The organization has a heritage home that supports homeless and drug-addicted pregnant women during the course of pregnancy to develop into loving mothers (Heritage Home, 2016). City Team San Jose has dining hall whose doors are open to all those in need of meal at any time
“We organize and advocate to prevent and end homelessness, because we believe that housing is a human right in a just society.” They are similar to the national coalition for the homeless, but, of course, are focused locally, in Chicago. They run several programs and campaigns focusing mostly on community outreach and immediately helping those experiencing homelessness. They have a program that gives homeless legal education and assistance, and a re-entry program to help the recently unincarcerated find housing and jobs, as well as a general 'Jobs ' program, creating work for the homeless.
As a massive provider of consumer goods in India, Hindustan Lever Limited (HLL), is attempting to penetrate the rural markets where there is a massive opportunity for growth. HLL’s current operating sectors are becoming increasingly competitive and crowded. Their best opportunities now lie in developing new markets and rising to the top of that market. They are attempting to do this with a program for developing entrepreneurs, named Shaktis. Met with initial success the program now needs to grow without increasing costs.
I had the distinct pleasure of contacting volunteers and writing the emails that were to be used for the tele-stars batch out request. Tele-stars were used to publicize the events to all the students and faculty through our WIU email accounts. I was also made to deliver the tele-stars batch out request forms with all the required signatures with a copy of the email with all the event information. It turned out to be a lot easier then I had originally thought. I’m not sure how I managed to get stuck doing all the communication jobs, but I enjoyed them. Janine supplied us with a list of volunteers who had expressed interest in helping with the coordination and planning of the Women’s Voices Open Mic Nights. This list turned out to be of no use for us. The volunteers never actually showed up for the work they had originally volunteered to help complete. We also used Facebook to publicize the event. We had several r...
Last year, when applying for this same grant, we only had estimates of the challenges that would arise from this crisis. Today, we are feeling it in full force. In just the past two months, the unemployment rate in Clinton County has nearly doubled from 10% to over 19%. Unemployment and severance benefits have run out for many, at the same time that state and federal cutbacks of social service programs have made it more difficult for families to find support burdening these difficult times. Many who still have the opportunity to work are only able to receive part-time hours, or are taking furlough days to keep their jobs. The realities of our economic situation are deeply troubling, and the need for assistance could not be greater.
...ocal nonprofit organizations have the potential to amplify their outreach to colleges, and young people in general, through matching passions with skills. You as organizations need to purposefully identify for us why promoting service and civic engagement is not only important, but necessary if we want to improve our lives, the lives of others, and the dilemmas and misfortunes our world faces every day.
With much displeasure Inspiration Corporation is no longer able to provide any services to any person that is not actively enrolled in either a housing program, or an employment services program. There has been an influx of graduates that has requested services or meetings in the recent weeks, although I have enjoyed working with each one of my participants both active and graduates. HUD the funding source of the STS housing program has very clear and strict guidelines as to the allotment of hours each program must dedicate to actively enrolled participants in order to remain compliant. Therefore, meetings both formal and informal, as well as phone calls from graduates is not seen as allotted hours
In regards to business practices, incentives are common tool used in negotiations. With that being said, Intel, a technology conglomerate, gave huge incentives to its customers for using computer-chip. Many would argue that Intel was wrong, while others would say Intel business practices were fair game. Below is a detailed report, discussing Intel actions.
The concern of what to do when relatives, friends, neighbors, and even strangers have needs that they are not able to address is an issue that dates back to the Colonial Period. Since the 1600s social welfare has been shaped by different people, policies, political decisions, and a shifting in one’s values and beliefs. During these times, the social welfare system has been shaped and molded by different situations that have occurred such as the Civil War, the Progressive Era, the Great Depression and World War I and II. Social Welfare programs and the provisions of services during the progressive era were embodied into two distinct movements: the Charity Organization Societies and the settlement movement. (Segal, 2013)
I have watch the city of Fond du Lac, in the state of Wisconsin, transform in the past 10 years or so. This was not a good transformation and it made me concerned for kids in my neighborhood in community. I was not really aware the programs that we’re offered to the community, nor did I seek these programs for help when I needed it most. Every now and again, I will drive past the Big Brothers Big Sisters (BBBS) chapter that is just over the railroad tracks before you get on the highway. I realized that this nonprofit organization was in place to help but I didn’t know how it could help me. During my research I was able to answer questions that I have asked myself a decade ago and learned more about a program that could have helped me survive
