Brenda Kramer EDCI 548 Mgmt. of Info. / Resources CD Policy Critique p.1 I was torn between writing my own CD Policy, or critiquing my school districts current policy. Then I realized this assignment is one that everyone of us should do in any district we are employed in, or should become employed in. It is our standards of operations to support us in the aspects of the job that we perform. If we learn that our district does not have a CD Policy then we will need to be able to write one, and very good one based on what we have learned from the other CD policies we have worked with in, or pulled out the most effective policies we have studied and written ourselves. It allows for the development of a school library media centers collection, maintain it, utilize it, and discard it. The policies should be written considering and based on the school’s demographics, student demographics, cultural relevance, community, curriculum, and teaching styles, in addition to providing material to meet students research needs and enjoyment of reading. The policy must be both adopted by and adhere to all School Board Rules. It has been proven time and time again that a school with a strong library media center that has access to quality reading material leads to higher test scores, student achievement, housing a collection in multiple formats of: books, periodicals, newspapers, videos, electronic subscriptions, non-print materials, technology, internet resources in quantity, quality, and variety. It is so intense in its length and in-depth complexity that a person could start to read it and just put it down before finishing it because of the way it has been written. It truly does meet all of the requirements of an effective CD Policy, but it is not user friendly, or should I say inviting to a reader to read. I read the CD Policy of a school in Tennessee and it was so clear, easy to understand and met all of the requirements of a thorough CD policy.
