These treatments include cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and interpersonal psychotherapy for depressed adolescents (IPT-A). CBT and IPT-A aimed to decrease distress according to change patients thoughts and behaviors that cause arduous feelings (WebMD, 2015). Both of them are efficiency treatments in some way.

This approach has been achieved by decreasing the depressed feeling through adverse psychological symptoms. IPT is a mature and brief therapy, specifically for the treatment of youth depression. The original modal was made by Mufson and colleagues in 1994, which is an IPT modal for adolescents (IPT-A). The purpose of this treatment is to develop the communicating ability and the problem-solving capability for young people who aged 12 to 18 years (Sanno E. Zack, Jenine Saekow and Anneliese Radke, 2015).Several research provided that IPT-A is an impactful treatment for adolescents with depressed feeling. For instance, an experiment from US national library of medicine national institutes of health (NCBI) aimed to test the acceptable and influential of IPT-A on the depressed adults. Those adults have been divided into two phases. In phase 1, 5 adults have been treated with a modified medical method. In phase II, 14 depressed adolescents had IPT-A clinical trial during 12 weeks after individual evaluation. Using self-report, and other methods as test methods at six time points, which is weeks 0, 2, 4, 8, and 12 respectively included evaluating week. The study illustrates people in phase 2 has a significant decline in the psychological symptoms and physiological inconvenience over the whole treatment. The results from phase 1 is treatment was modified to meet the needs of the treatment …show more content…
IPT focuses on learning new knowledges to prove that some thoughts of patients are wrong. (WebMD, 2015). It is difficult to say which treatment is more efficient than the other, because patients all thinking in a different way. It depends on how many patients can receive from the treatment and how much time patients spent on review the knowledges learned from treatments. So that, different people will have different outcomes from CBT and IPT.
To conclude, there are two main psychotherapy that have been conducted to reduce the youth depression. The first one is called Cognitive Behavior therapy (CBT), the other treatment is called interpersonal psychotherapy for depressed adolescents (IPT-A). Interpersonal Psychotherapy (IPT) is a short-term psychotherapy that was developed by Myrna Weissman and Gerald Klerman in the 1980’s. It focuses on the interpersonal relationships in the client’s life, instead of on past or biological causes. The therapy is kept fairly structured by the clinician’s use of a manual and aims to help the client recover from their current episode of depression. Interpersonal Psychotherapy has been used in conjunction with Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) in research studies, with promising results. Though initially developed for the use of depression, IPT has also been effective with other disorders, such as anxiety and eating disorders. Interpersonal Psychotherapy continues to be researched, as well as modified for use with other client populations such as adolescents. Clinicians, especially those who work with mood disorders, should learn more about IPT and decide if it is something they would like to incorporate into their practice.

CBT is a short-term intervention which recognizes that thoughts, feelings, and behaviors are inter-related and can be altered through behavior modification. A pilot study was done on the effects of a group-based, early intervention, CBT program for depression and anxiety in 8 to 11-year-old children. The study consisted of 10 school-based sessions, which were facilitated by a teacher, an education welfare officer and two classroom assistants. The sessions included psycho-education on stress and its effect on people, an exploration of connections between thoughts, feelings, and actions, introduced alternative ways of looking at difficulties and problem solving techniques (O’Callaghan & Cunningham,
The Beck Depression Inventory-II (BDI-II) is the latest version of one of the most extensively used assessments of depression that utilizes a self-report method to measure depression severity in individuals aged thirteen and older (Beck, Steer & Brown, 1996). The BDI-II proves to be an effective measure of depression as evidenced by its prevalent use in both clinical and counseling settings, as well as its use in studies of psychotherapy and antidepressant treatment (Beck, Steer & Brown, 1996). Even though the BDI-II is meant to be administered individually, the test administration time is only 5 to 10 minutes and Beck, Steer & Brown (1996) remark that the interpretive guidelines presented in the test manual are straightforward, making the 21 item Likert-type measure an enticing option to measure depression in appropriate educational settings. However it is important to remember that even though the BDI-II may be easy to administer and interpret, doing so should be left to highly trained individuals who plan to use the results in correlation with other assessments and client specific data when diagnosing a client with depression. An additional consideration is the response bias that can occur in any self-report instrument; Beck, Steer & Brown (1996, pg. 1) posit that clinicians are often “faced with clients who alter their presentation to forward a personal agenda that may not be shared.” This serves as an additional reminder that self-report assessments should not be the only assessment used in the diagnoses process.
This paper will have two sections: The first section will be a brief explanation on what is depression. In addition, what is the percentage of depress people in the United States. Furthermore, it will discuss in details several theories that are best suited to treat depression disorder. Moreover, the theories that will be briefly discussed are as follows: Cognitive Therapy (CT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Interpersonal Therapy (IPT). The second section will be a summary of a counseling session the learner had with a client and the treatment that was given to help alleviate and ceased the depression from reoccurring.
CBT has been known to cure a variety of disorders both in clinical environments and non-clinical environments. This type of therapy technique has been tested for efficacy and has proven to be highly effective. Furthermore, the future for CBT looks very positive as well. Researchers and theorist are now working on making this type of therapy available for suicide prevention, schizophrenia, and other psychopathologies.

Cognitive Behavioral therapy (CBT) is the only form of therapy used at the VA because it is an EBP. The VA has found that CBT is the most effective form of therapy for Veterans. The VA and DOD have stated that CBT is a “first line treatment” for Veterans when it comes to depression (Hundt, Barrera, Robinson, & Cully, 2014,pg. 942). Morland, Greene, Grubbs, Kloezeman, Mackintosh, Rosen, & Frueh, (2011) also states that CBT has been shown to be effective with those who are diagnosed with
Of the psychotherapy theories, we have studied this quarter; I am inclined to like Interpersonal Therapy (IPT), it is one of the most efficient forms of psychotherapy for depression. It is also an adaptation for a broad range of disorders in various populations. It 's qualification for use in divergent treatment approach and it service is ubiquitous is cultural disparate. In IPT, the therapist focuses on the recovery from the current depressive episode by clarifying the relationship between onset of the client 's current depressive symptoms and interpersonal problems in fostering a relationship through communication and interacting allowing the client to be at ease. Treatment is time limited that encourages the client to regain normalcy of
Cognitive behavioral therapy commonly known as CBT is a systematic process by which we learn to change our negative thoughts into more positive ones. CBT is a combination of two types of therapy, Cognitive Therapy and Behavioral Therapy. Cognition is our thoughts, so cognitive behavioral therapy combines working with our thought process and changing our behavior at the same time. Cognitive behavioral therapists believe that our behavior and our feelings are influenced by the way we think; also our mood is affected by our behavior and thought process. So CBT tries to tackle our thoughts, feelings and behavior. Scientific research has shown that cognitive behavioral therapy is affective for a wide range of mental health problems. The purpose is to bring positive change by alleviating emotional distress such as depression. CBT starts by breaking down your problems into smaller components, often trying to identify particular problematic thoughts or behavior. Once these problems are broken down it is then suggested a straightforward plan in which the patient and therapist can intervene to promote recovery.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a method of correcting invalid thought patterns to a more positive view of the person and their place in their world. Some people do not believe that Cognitive Behavioral Therapy is a real treatment for depression, claiming it is a form of positive thinking ("The Daily Mail," 2009). On the opposite end of the spectrum, others argue that Cognitive Behavioral Therapy should be used in all therapies for depression as it allows the patient to take an active role in their treatment. The purpose of this paper is to demonstrate the benefit of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy as a viable treatment of depression, either as a stand-alone therapy or in conjunction with other therapies.

There are psychological and biological treatments that can be useful in addressing health problems that put teens at risk for suicide. There is no treatment that can specifically stop one’s thoughts about suicide. However, recognizing and dealing with any mental illness can decrease the risk. Treatments for major depression and bipolar disorders have been shown to lower the risk to commit suicide. Lithium is the most widely use medications for treating bipolar disorders. Lithium helps prevent future episodes of being depressed or acting insane. For good results, it may be prescribed for a long period of time as a supportive therapy. "People who often have suicidal thoughts may take advantage from particular types of psychotherapy. Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) talks about negative thoughts and cognitive distortions. Cognitive behavioral therapy has been shown in multiple studies to help reduce the symptoms related to anxiety disorders and depression. "If you can recognize the risk factors for suicide early and act to change the ones you can control; you may save your life - or that of a close friend or family member"
