Plot
The Wapshot Chronicle is the story of a family who live in the small town of St. Botolphs, Massachusetts, and their adventures. There are a number of significant events in the story. One very important event is when Moses Wapshot leaves to go to Washington D.C. Moses’ brother, Coverly, sneaks onto the train and leaves with him. This is when the boys’ journeys begin. Their journeys are the main focus of the story. The boys’ parents do not know that Coverly left with Moses until they find a note from Coverly saying that he had done so. Moses is going to D.C. to find a job, and Coverly is going to make his way to New York City to find his aunt and uncle. Coverly plans to work for his uncle. However, when Coverly gets to New York City, he is turned down because of his lack of knowledge and his inner confusion. Another important event is when Leander Wapshot’s boat, the Topaze, sinks. ...self to find a job and survive on his own, which came to be very hard for him to do. He probably could have stayed at home with his parents and be taken care of for a few more years had he not done so. I think the author put forth these themes clearly and effectively.
Personal Relevance
The book has taught me to be happy with what I have, and not to rush life. Also, the book has taught me to help others when they are in need. If I did what Coverly did in the book, I would have a very hard time trying to find work and trying to survive. I feel I am too young to work to support myself, and I have no money for food or shelter. Honora Wapshot taught me the importance of helping other people when they are in need. She lets a stranger into her house just because that person is in a horrible accident and needs help. This was a very kind and generous thing to do.
The setting the setting is mostly in little rock 2014. The reason that it is 2014 is how they describe everything in the book. And it is in new york in the book it tell me a location in the new york area.
Two of the places where the story takes place are in Shalev and Star Valley, 18 years after a nuclear holocaust. Shalev is the main city of the four cities. It’s where Eric, his family,
I believe the most important concept that I gained from reading the book was to remain faithful, in good times and in bad. Walking blindly can be very terrifying, but God always has a plan for each and every one of us. At times, the plan remains unseen, and that should not deter or slow me on the path that my heart is yearning
I can relate this book to my life in many ways; it was easier for me to relate to this book because were both 18 year old girls who want to live life the right way. Also I don’t want to live life trying to be like everyone else, so this was really encouraging to me. A part that helped me was the part about confidence and how important that is. Its important to have confidence in your faith because say you get in a situation you can protect your faith and stand up for what you believe. Another part that I can really apply to my life was how when people were talking about her she didn’t even beg to know. Personally whenever I hear that someone was talking about me, I really want to know what they said! This helped me to learn that why fill my brain with negativity sinful gossip, because that’s not what Jesus would do.
In the beginning of the story, Hughes transports the reader to Harlem, New York which lies in north Manhattan. In the 1920s and 1930s Harlem
This book teaches the importance of self-expression and independence. If we did not have these necessities, then life would be like those in this novel. Empty, redundant, and fearful of what is going on. The quotes above show how different life can be without our basic freedoms. This novel was very interesting and it shows, no matter how dismal a situation is, there is always a way out if you never give up, even if you have to do it alone.
The entire story was a symbol of Needy’s life. The setting in the story was symbolic to the way Needy was feeling. Needy’s life was diminishing right before his eyes, and he did not realize it. The different changes in the story represented how much Needy’s life had gradually changed over time. By reading the story the reader can tell that Needy was in a state of denial.
This book is set in many different places but the book starts out in Ho Chi Minh City. The next and most significant place we arrive at is Haven, the “New York” for the Fairies. The most noteworthy place we read of is Fowl Manor, the very place where almost all of the action of this book takes place in.
The Depression was the most severe downturn in economic history. It left people homeless, unemployed, separated from loved ones and even dead. Throughout the Depression, Americans faced the hardest point in their lives. Those who were able to push through and accomplish their American dream, were the ones who made it out. The dream was different for everyone. For some it may have been the dream to survive through it all. Others it could have been scrounging around and finding whatever else they could find to hold their family together. And for one, it was to come through as the hero his family and town saw even during this crisis. He had to go through many failures, pain, love, and success in order for him to experience and survive this downfall known as the Great Depression. This life and hardship in the end turned out to be a great Cinderella Story.
The story is set in many countries around the world, it changes between England, the USA, Ireland, and other various parts of Europe.
The stories setting takes place in Western Colorado. In Western Colorado in a home of a retired nurse named Annie is where the whole story takes place. Annie's home is a two story log cabin out in the middle of nowhere. The closest neighbors are miles away. It takes place in the middle of winter snow storms.
When I am reading books I always seem to put myself in the characters’ shoes. By doing that I allow myself to learn from the characters’ trials and tribulations they are facing. I learn from their experiences because I experience the challenge with them as I read. As crazy as I might sound, it is a habit of mine. I have learned and continue to learn from the books I read. Books have taught me about human character, keeping an open mind, and always following my dreams.
Throughout the story, the boy went through a variety of changes that will pose as different themes of the story including alienation, transformation, and the meaning of religion. The themes of this story are important to show the growth of the young boy into a man. Without alienation, he wouldn't have understand the complexity of his feelings and learned to accept faults. With transformation, he would have continued his boyish games and wouldn't be able to grow as a person and adolescence. And finally, without understanding the religious aspects of his life, he would go on pretending he is somebody that he's not. He wouldn't understand that there is inconsistency between the real and ideal life (Brooks et al.).

The first theme I chose to focus on was freedom. I chose this simply because of the fact that he uses this word repeatedly throughout his book. I thought this was a great theme because he constantly talks about how you cannot and should not let yourself get bogged down worrying about what other people think about you or how other people perceive you. Nick believes that you are in control of you and only you, and if other people do not accept you for who you are, then that is on them and that is their problem. Nick says that people must stop trying to live up to everyone else’s expectations. He also says that we have to stop these negative attitudes, despite what our circumstances are, and we have to stop the nonsense of thinking we are not “good enough.” I chose the image of a person who has different paths in front of them to choose from. I chose this to depict that everyone always has options no matter what their circumstances are. Everyone has a choice of how they will live, as well as what their attitude and outlook on life will be. Nick learns th...
