Buzzing Bees: A Short Story

It was a luminous and buzzy day for the bees in the Buzzing Bees hive. Amelia Buzzbee, one of the many worker bees, was pollinating the plants, and making honey that was needed for the hive. After many hard hours of work, it was finally time for Amelia Buzzbee to go to sleep. She had the same nightmare over and over again, that the hive would collapse and she would have nowhere to go. Amelia Buzzbee woke up at the crack of dawn, and had flown out to the field to start pollinating the plants when all of the sudden Jeremy, the drone bee, who was supposed to be doing his job, mating with the queen bee, had dashed up to her.

“Why are you here” I asked in a stern voice, “you should be at your job”.

“The colony is collapsing, the queen had told me to tell you, a handful of drones and worker bees have disappeared” he had said in a rushed voice.

Over the announcements I could hear the queen bee, her name is Kim;

“I would like all of the bees no matter what type, to meet in Bees Square”,

which was in the middle of the hive. Jeremy and I dashed as fast as we could to Bees Square. The queen was on her podium and had started to speak in a gloomy voice, but tried not to show her sadness by trying to act stern.

“As most of you

probably know, the colony is collapsing. I woke up this morning to find out that ¾ of our bees had disappeared, and we don’t know what happened to them. So, we need to make a list and write down some things we can do to help our hive.”
That night, Amelia Buzzbee had stayed up late and jotted down ideas on how humans and herself could save her hive; some things she came up with was: tell humans the importance of the bees, move the hive near plants that the bees pollinate so they can pollinate more plants and make more honey, and to tell the humans use little to no chemical’s on their gardens and lawns because it can hurt, or even kill us.

Amelia Buzzbee stayed up all night thinking about how her worst nightmare is coming true; the colony is collapsing, she would have nowhere to go. The next morning they took action and had started bringing out the word about bees and said things like: why they were important, how the colony was collapsing, and how to save them and their

hive.
The next morning,the queen presented a speech to the humans on their importance.
“Us bees are important to you humans in many ways, without us you would lose food such as honey, squash, cucumber, and much more. Also bees are the biggest things that pollinate in the world, so without the bees, a lot more crops and flowers would die. Those are some of the many reasons why bees are important.”
Over the next few weeks, Amelia Buzzbee and her co-bees: worked harder than they ever have, took shorter breaks, got little sleep, and got help from the humans. luckily, the work had payed off and Amelia Buzzbee and her hive was saved.
