I am writing to express my interest in the Business Writer position at the University. As a current Economics major and Statistics minor student at UC Davis, I am well prepared to assist the teams to deliver high-quality insights to global clients as well as students and colleagues with my writing skills and interpersonal skills. I am also passionate about writing and would thrive in the dynamic environment at the University.
I was exceptional on all of my writing courses I took over the years. Therefore, as a writer, I am confident based on the past writing classes’ grades. I completed two 6000-words research projects at UC Santa Cruz. The first research project is about the climate change, the other one is about history. I also completed

In the class, I was able to complete multiple projects to practice my business writing skills. One of my major projects was to compare the significance rhetorical situations and rhetorical choices have on three specific marketed publications: Newsletters, Press Releases and Report and analyze how particular rhetorical situations and choices affect the three memos that were published at Walmart and St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. I collaborated with a team of three to establish the basic structure of the report and researched the related information from the internet. We also researched the company and organization’s background to justify our assumptions. I worked the project with my team members on a regular basis and the final report explained the effectiveness of rhetorical strategies on Newsletters, Press Releases, and Reports quit well. My rhetorical analysis skills, rhetorical techniques as well as other business writing skills have trained well in this winter business writing class.
In addition to the academic writing experiences, my role as a researcher for China Construction Bank (CCB) Property & Casualty Insurance Company also prepared me with the necessary skill sets for this position. I worked with the leader of the department to strategize with CCB on its marketing, human resources, client services and operations. During the two months, my team analyzed the market situation based on the data from the market demand survey. By writing and offering CCB the service report, we were able to transform their current customers’ difficulties into future
Sam Dillion wrote “What Corporate America Can’t Build: A Sentence” for an audience of college students, employees and corporate people. In his article, Sam points out that companies are spending a lot of money annually on remedial training. According to Sam, the writing problem appears in e-mails, reports and texts. He is informing his audience to brush up on writing skills before entering the corporate world, in order to avoid remedial training. Companies like to hire employees with excellent writing skills but many of employees and applicants fall short of that standard.
Heinrichs had previously worked as a journalist before becoming a full time writer and advocate for rhetoric. He utilizes illustrative examples to convey rhetorical concepts. Furthermore, chapter four reveals the most valuable logos and pathos tactic. Lastly, this book’s use should be continued in this course.
Authors use rhetorical strategies to express themes in their writing. Different rhetorical strategies help convey different themes with varying degrees of effectiveness. One way to measure the effectiveness is to rhetorical analyze two pieces of writing to each other and see which is best.
For the first rhetoric article, I chose the McPick 2 McDonalds commercial. This commercial displays pathos with a catchy jingle playing throughout the ad, and how they repeat, “Let me get a McPick 2.” It displays ethos because McDonalds is a well known fast food chain that many people like, so people are normally going to believe what they say. It shows logos by explaining how the deal works, and how the food is delicious, or juicy, which makes you want to go eat some of the food. I think this commercial is very effective because they put a catchy jingle in your mind about juicy food. This makes you want to go eat at McDonalds.

The impact and effectiveness of using proper rhetoric was a strategy of “good” writing that I was not aware of until my senior year of high school. While taking AP Language and Composition my junior year, my fellow students and I believed that we had survived countless essay workshop activities and writing assignments with emphasis on word choices, grammatical structure, syntax, punctuation and spelling. By the time we had entered AP Literature our senior year, we felt we could achieve success; we already knew how to write in the correct format and structur...

Anyone who is doing any type of writing piece has a process. They may not know it but it is there and it exists. It is one’s approach to their piece and how they go about accomplishing it. It has to do with how you write it, how many drafts you do, as well as your revision process if you even have one. My writing process however has room for improvement. A summation of my writing process consist of heavy planning, one draft, and little revisions. Anne Lamott, Shirley Rose, and Kathleen Yancey all drew attention to major points through their writing pieces that support and dispute my writing process. Through their pieces they have found a way to inspire, inform, and entertain me all at the same time while passing along great information that
In conclusion, from my understanding this essay is about using rhetorical situations and how a writer can use them to their advantage. Whether it be in writing or in an advertisement the writer adjusts the way they write things to influence a certain audience. And to portray a certain kind of image that will be liked by the
During the course of this semester; the variety of writing styles and essays assigned to me in my communication skills class encouraged the development of my writing skills, as well as provided me with more self-assurance in my abilities. My writing, research, and presentation abilities enhanced through practice, determination, and the understanding I gained during this course. With every single writing assignment, I learned new innovative approaches and skills, which enhanced my abilities to improve my thoughts logically, enabling me to write more clearly, and to organize my papers more effectively. At the beginning of this semester; despite the fact that I already knew the terminology MAP: message, audience, purpose; I never really understood the significance of MAP. For this reason, my writing lacked clarity, organization, and my writings appeared less focused on the topics. As a result my research papers and essays did not flow as smoothly from one passage to the next. Furthermore, I was unaccustomed with the precise procedures used when writing an essay. For instance, my previous classes before college, although requiring a reference page, did not require me to include proper citations in my writings. After evaluating the quality of my writing toward the end of the semester, I recognized vast improvements in several areas of my writing. By concentrating on the beginning stages of my writings, I could distinguish ahead of time my audience and my message. As a result, my essays are clear, and I remain on topic. In addition to that using transition phrases efficiently also helps my writing to flow smoothly. The proper use of transitions makes my writings easy to follow from one topic to the next. I also learned that pre-writing...
This summer’s course in ‘Business and Society’ was a great opportunity for me to learn more about myself, my perspective of business, the role of government in society, policy makers and most importantly the views of the stakeholders. For the spring semester gone and this summer session almost all classes were tied into my major, giving me a better understanding on what I want out of my degree. My major here at Marymount Manhattan College is Finance and this class has surely helped me in figuring out, the workings of ‘big business’ and its impact on stakeholders. This course has helped me understand why many laws, at one point to me sounded absurd, but are in place to protect both industry and stakeholder. I never thought communication was such a priority in the business world until taking this class. From newly learnt material I see communication as a
Taking a creative writing class was a good way for me to express my thoughts and feelings onto paper, as well as read my other classmates stories. Reading stories created by other people lead me into their mind brain to experience what type of writer they were, it was an overall exquisite class. I believe that every person has a way of expressing who they are through writing stories of their own, fiction is the best way to express your creative imagination. This class that I took for two years helped me become a better writer and helped me understand the types of writers we have.
