Casa de Esperanza is a non-profit organization created to serve immigrants and their families who need affordable legitimate educational and social services, as well as a place to go when they need help. A refuge, providing protection, schooling for people caught in the series of domestic violence, sexual assault and child assault. Casa is healing communities where victims can receive the nurturing also support necessary, to their efforts in gathering control of their own lives. provides facts and tools to contribution in the critical thinking as well as critical action of those and their collectives at peers to end domestic violence through public policy and systems change. Casa de Esperanza as every organization’s achievement is influenced by on the organization’s ethical behavior and accountability for its actions. Nonprofit organizations are no different. On the contrary these organizations have a greater difficult in succeeding. Each aspect of a nonprofit organization requires the time, energy, strength, passion and fortitude of simple individuals who have the vision and mission of the organization at hand. Unfortunately, Casa de Esperanza lacks on more than one aspect. One of the issues with Casa de Esperanza is that the organizations fails strategic strategy, the board did not have a recognizable business goals.
It also lacks the emphasis necessary to reach business goals and to develop strategies that will move the company onward. Having no objective weakened the possibilities of long term growth and risked achievement in the business. It put at threat funds for future projects that needed them especially since there business kept growing, not with the intent that they had at the beginning which was to help Latina women fighting domestic violence but to expand to every women going thru the same …show more content…

Lacking of coherent business strategy, difficult to create budgets for special projects also to understand the personnel as well as funding resources necessary to introduction new services and grow the company. Principally when Casa de Esperanza was no longer suitable on sheltering all the troubled people; they didn’t foresee how big of a problem domestic violence was not only in the Latina community but several other ethnicities. In addition, the lack of leadership was major components which lead to no communication. As a consequence Casa de Esperanza kept questioning themselves what the goal of the project was throughout the years. Moreover, there was also no management, which was a concern because there was no formal audit for the company for about a year, which the company couldn’t foresee any financial problems not until someone in the accounting concentration was hired. Which the company should have gotten to the expense of hiring someone else for something the Board should have appointed in that area. Furthermore, funding was an issue since the government’s funds only applicate to those who were only legal immigrants. On the other hand most of the females that need help were undocumented. Nonetheless, the help was for Latinas, they didn’t anticipate how cultural the problem, which lead to more financial issues for more women were in necessity of help. Merely, as the business grew with so many women in need the space was not enough to shelter all women. The business did not have sustaining resources it needed financial support. Casa de Esperanza an in-progress business with many holes to fill to be successful in what they intent to for goal to be nonetheless, it did help many women in need, at the end the board saw the main problem decided to take action and have a role in the long- term future. Casa de Esperanza: Strategic Plan 2015-2016 The following is a summary of 2015-2016, strategic plan of Casa de Esperanza, a nonprofit organization, created in 1980’s to provide shelter for women that suffer domestic violence .

Mission - Casa de Esperanza is committed to providing a safe, supportive environment in which women and their children can heal, affirm their own strengths, regain control of their lives, examine their situation and make their own decisions
Vision – Casa de Esperanza is a safe home for children in crisis due to mistreatment. Casa de Esperanza provides housing care, and manages health and psychological services according to the needs of each
child. Values -To attain our goal, I have established 4 guiding values: • Customers - Main concern - We will delight all our women’s, both internal and external, by understanding and surpassing their needs. • People - Highest Asset - All our people will be encouraged to realize their full potential as valued members of the team. • Performance - Significant to Winning - We will set targets to be the best, continually challenging the way we do things, both as persons and as members of our teams. • Partnering - Prospect - We will do your best to be the partner of choice and be valued by each person for our collaboration and openness. Goals and Strategies Strategic planning should be the Boards main accomplishment by identifying strategies that the nonprofit should achieve by its mission. A good mission is motivating, centers on helping women, and is very ambitious. It is frequently the idyllic result, and is bigger than just the business can deliver alone. It should be developed in discussion with the Board and Executive Management Team. Ideally, as staff and board engage in the process, they become committed to measurable goals, approve priorities for implementation, and also commit to revisiting the organization’s strategies on an ongoing basis as the organization's internal and external environments change; helping every woman despite her legality. We will remain focused on serving the needs of women who go thru domestic violence, while expanding to serve those who are at high risk of suffering of abuse. These approaches are consistent with current national, state and local pblic policy directions to prevent and end domestic violence. Government sources of funding for the domestic violence programs, supportive and affordable housing, and support services will be under pressure for reduction as a result of the economic downturn. Services will likely come from redirecting fund from current programs and services. Long term planning for major new activities must consider how new revenue can be secured, including increased private support. Strategic Directions Strategic Directions Capacity Demands on the partner organizations are so high that it is extremely challenging for them to address the complex needs of survivors of domestic violence with mental health concerns. Funders enable providers to offer services, but some of their requirements and policies can inadvertently act as barriers to survivors getting their needs met. Strategic Directions Accessibility Each partner organization is strong in particular areas of accessibility, but they each have room for improvement in other areas of accessibility. The lack of accessible and elcoming services in the community at large makes it much harder for service recipients to get their needs met, and puts more strain on the service providers who will help them. The environment in which services are provided makes a difference. Strategic Directions Screening & Assessment A one size fits all approach to screening and assessment does not meet the needs of many service recipients. Conclusion Our change initiatives all have something in common. They are all about building trust: • Service recipients being able to trust that providers will have the necessary knowledge and understanding to be able to help them • Service recipients being able to trust providers enough to ask for what they need • Service recipients being able to trust providers will respond appropriately to their needs or refer them to someone who can • Providers being able to trust each other to provide quality services and helpful consultation • Providers being able to trust each other to work collaboratively to meet the needs of service recipients
When Esperanza is struck by the realization that she is not accepted in society, she aspires to bring a more hospitable environment to fruition. In the poor slums of Chicago, a family living in poverty struggles to get by. In the book, House on Mango Street by Sandra Cisneros, Esperanza is a twelve year old girl who lives with her family in the Windy City. She lives with her three siblings and both parents on Mango Street. Esperanza has no control over her life and family’s poverty. People who have no control over their life desperately seek change. Esperanza seeks to change her name, her home, and her destiny as a way to control her life.
Esperanza was able to provide the audience with an image that was vivid of her surroundings through her diction and tone. Esperanza presents a series of stories that she deals with in her neighborhood as she grows up. Esperanza arose from poverty and always dreamt of having a house of her own. Sandra Cisneros' strong cultural and gender values have a tremendous influence on The House on Mango Street. Cisneros feels that the Mexican-American community is very abusive towards the treatment of women because men are seen as the powerful, strong figure.
They launched the Temporary Housing Project in response to this problem. When Miss Prieto voiced her opinion on this, she said, “They are rejecting the rigid discipline of their parents” indicating “a need for temporary foster homes” until the problem at home was resolved.3 They had success in reuniting the majority of the runaway teen girls with their families but there was still a need for temporary foster homes. Mujeres Latinas En Accion started recruiting families to be licensed as foster homes for temporary placement of runaway girls. People could volunteer to become foster parents which would then require them to be interviewed. In addition to temporary foster homes, Mujeres Latinas En Accion also provided counseling for runaways and their families which helped increase community awareness of the problem of runaway youth. MLEA also helped with Community Adjustment Referrals from the Department of Human Services, young people who have been picked up by the police and have received station adjustments, particularly with runaway girls.1 Other counseling service and classes became available for adults and youth. Mujeres Latinas En Accion tried expanding their education and counseling by providing their services in community schools, In one case, they were working with young girls in gangs who have had troubles in school. They also created parent support groups
There was another time when Esperanza wanted to eat lunch in the canteen at school. She was not allowed to eat at school, because she lived close enough to walk home for lunch. But, Esperanza wanted to feel special like the other kids, so she convinced her mother to write a note to the nun in charge giving her permission to eat in the school canteen. The mother wrote the note, but the nun was not convinced. So, she made Esperanza go to the window and point to her house. She was too ashamed to point to the old-run-down home where she lived. This was one of her most embarrassing moments. Not to be outdone, Esperanza said, "I knew then I had to have a house. A real house. One I could point to" (page5).
In the first short story The House on Mango Street, Esperanza is outside her apartment building where she lives with her siblings and parents. They six were Mama, Papa, Carlos, Kiki, Nenny, and Esperanza. She describes the place they were living in by saying that it was on the third floor of an old building and as well said " The water pipes broke and the landlord wouldn't fix them because the house was too old...We were using the washroom next door and carrying water over in empty milk gallons" (Cisneros 4). Esperanza and her family are going through hardships because of the landlord, even when they are paying their rent. She describes the apartment building as old and useless to the owner, this means that the building has to be very torn down for someone who owns it not to care about it. Esperanza begins to experience difficulties at a young age by having to shower with water from the washroom, they did not even use buckets which can indicate that they did not own one. Usually it is minorities who as well recycle the bottles they buy to give them...
Although Esperanza is constantly reaffirming that she wants to move away from Mango Street, we know by the end novel that she will one day return to help those who will not have the opportunities Esperanza has had in her life. Indeed, in the closing pages Esperanza admits that she cannot escape Mango Street. She can never again call it home, but it has influenced her dreams, formed her personality, and she has learned valuable life lessons from its inhabitants. That is why, explains Esperanza, she tells stories about the house on Mango Street, revealing the beauty amidst dirty streets and unveiling her true inner self, the peace of knowing that her “home is where her heart is.”
At first, Esperanza is young, insecure, and immature. Her immaturity is apparent when she talks about her mom holding her, saying it is, “sweet to put your nose into when she is holding you and you feel safe” (Cisneros 6-7). This shows Esperanza’s insecurity because her mom is still a big comfort source to her. She feels a false sense of comfort because her mom is there and will protect her. In addition, Esperanza’s immaturity is shown through her dislike for outsiders of the neighborhood when she says, “They are stupid people who are lost and got here by mistake” (Cisneros 28). This indicates how defensive and protective Esperanza is towards her barrio by calling outsiders stupid for reacting the way they do, even though she dislikes Mango Street....
Esperanza is a very strong woman in herself. Her goals are not to forget her "reason for being" and "to grow despite the concrete" so as to achieve a freedom that's not separate from togetherness.
Sandra Cisneros' strong cultural values greatly influence The House on Mango Street. Esperanza's life is the medium that Cisneros uses to bring the Latin community to her audience. The novel deals with the Catholic Church and its position in the Latin community. The deep family connection within the barrio also plays an important role in the novel. Esperanza's struggle to become a part of the world outside of Mango Street represents the desire many Chicanos have to grow beyond their neighborhoods.
This United States of America is not fond of undocumented immigrants, especially women. Cruel anti-immigrant laws, policies, and practices have had especially dramatic impact on immigrant women and their families. These measures force immigrant women to choose between the threat of an abusive husband and the threat of deportation if they call the police. Immigration policies can also make women sit in detention, thus leaving their children. During this time, some of the women might be raped by officers. This is because detention lacks sexual abuse prevention policies. These women who are in the detention centers are not dangerous, instead they are placed behind bars because of small crimes such as driving without a license or they are charged the civil crime for violating immigration laws.Women are faced with the emotional burden of separation from their families.
Papa for example is a hardworking man and does what he must do to make ends meet. Esperanza’s family may represent the typical immigrant family; Hence, Esperanza’s parents are both hardworking, loving, supportive and very caring. Many immigrant parents are very selfless and give everything they have for their child to succeed. Esperanza is the Chicana who is fortunate enough to have this support and move ahead in life. Although she may not have the money, she has the support and Sandra Cisneros does a great job emphasizing on the importance of a community, of a family in order to
Statistical evidence can be used to stress the seriousness of domestic violence and the importance of having women’s shelters dispersed throughout the nation. According to recent surveys, one in every three women will experience domestic violence at some time during her lifetime. Domestic violence is also the leading cause of injury to women, with the abuser usually being a member of her own family. Finally, up to ten million American children witness some type of domestic violence every year (Fantuzzo and Fusco, “Children’s Direct Exposure to Types of Domestic Violence Crime: A Population-based Investigation”). These statistics show that domestic violence is a reality and that the efforts of women’s shelters are not in vain.
Without a successful business strategy put in place the company would fail and be unable to compete with competitors. There would be on way of knowing what resources are required. No planning for the future of the business. If there are no targets set out to achieve there would be no way of measuring how successful the company has been.
