1. I chose Verizon because I currently use them as my service provider for my cell phone. It will be interesting for me to find out more about their history and how they run their corporation. Verizon Communications was created on June 30th, 2000 by Bell Atlantic Corporation and GTE Corporation in one of the largest mergers in U.S. business history. Now, Verizon is a global technology company that is delivering digital technology to millions of customers daily worldwide. The "Verizon" brand was launched on April 3rd, 2000 and operations as Verizon Wireless started on April 4th. In 2003, Verizon began trading on the New York Stock Exchange and trading on NASDAQ on March 10, 2010. In 2004, Verizon Communications was added to the Dow Jones Industrial Average. Verizon has shown growth through acquisitions. The larger acquisitions were MCI Inc. in 2006, Alltel Corp. in 2009 and AOL Inc, in 2015 and these have made Verizon a leader in wireless technologies. …show more content…

Ethical behavior is very important in business because there are stakeholders that have a large effect on the success of a company Iike Verizon. A lack of ethics could effect their customers, investors, creditors and employees. Verizon's customers could choose not to do business with a company that is considered unethical, which would decrease sales for Verizon. Investors could choose not to invest their money into Verizon's stock because they don't believe they are ethical and could consider that the company will have less chance to be profitable. Also, they might not want to be associated with an unethical company. Creditors would be less likely to do business with Verizon because they might not get repaid for the credit that they extended because of a potential reduction in sales. Lastly, employees might not want to work for Verizon if they consider them unethical and employee morale could be lower if their employees don't respect their
employer. 3. The time periods I chose are the 1980's and 2000's. There could be a concern because of possible deceptive advertising. Cell phone ownership was just beginning in the 70's and 80's and not many would know lot of the capability of cell phones. These companies could exploit the customers lack of knowledge and sell them to buy phones and cell phones well beyond what they would need. Once this unethical behavior is made public, it would cause customers and potential customers to not trust Verizon and this would lower sales and stock equity. If I was a part of Verizon, I would emphasize the importance of transparency and make sure that there is a code of ethics in place which would include putting the customer first in all of our interactions with customers. In the 2000's my concerns would be cyber crime and intellectual property theft. In this business, Verizon has to spend extra attention on cyber crime and intellectual property theft. With so much personal information available through wireless technology, they have to spend a lot of time and money into security to protect their customers. If there is a data breach that Verizon is responsible for, it could look negatively if Verizon didn't do its part in making their communications secure. If I was a part of Verizon, I would have attention spent on protecting on consumer's private information. My main concern would be to keep our customers comfortable with us because if that is lacking, we could lose them.
Verizon Wireless is a joint venture between Verizon Communications out of New Jersey and the European-owned telecommunications company "Vodafone." Verizon Wireless is a wireless communication carrier that operates in the continental United States. Currently, Verizon Wireless provides wireless communication services to over 60 million customers nationwide including customers in Hawaii and Alaska. Its products include wireless voice and data services using the largest wireless voice and data network in the United States. Cingular Wireless is currently the leading cellular carrier when it comes to amount of customers on its wireless network. However, as Verizon Wireless continues to grow its market share as the United States' second largest wireless carrier, it ranks number one in total revenue collected as well as how it is viewed by Wall Street. Verizon Wireless' strong market position, perception of quality, and its proportion of income has a strong competitive advantage that would allow a small price increase--making the demand inelastic, "quality demand stretches very little in response to price change" (McConnell et. al, 2004).
Ethics are the basic concepts and principles of human conduct that relate to morals. Ethical decisions, or unethical decisions, play a highly influence the culture of a society or organisation. In a business environment, ethical behaviour is highly important because not following ethics can lead to negative effects on businesses overall and its stakeholders. The importance of ethics can be observed through an incident that occurred regarding HealthSouth, a healthcare provider in the United States. From 1992-2003, HealthSouth was involved in the embezzlement of financial reports to portray their financial position as better than it was. The founder, Richard M. Scrushy, the executive team, and many employees were involved in this process, all
More and more people are holding businesses to a higher ethical accountability. A companies decisions effect its employees, costumers the environment, and even the community, so decisions should not be taken lightly. It also becoming more obvious that managers feel that trustworthy employees with good worth ethics are an intangible asset to their company. Managers will not receive such employees if they do not have high ethical and moral standards themselves. I think that people ultimately want ethics that will produce a productive and honest workforce that also increases profits.
Imagine if nobody had a cellphone in today’s world. That’s why today everybody has some form of a cellphone contract with the four major companies (AT&T, Sprint, Verizon or T-Mobile) or a less know cellphone provider. AT&T and Verizon Wireless provide more than the other two major companies.
The supplier bargaining power relies mainly in Apple and Google Android phones, because they are the highest in demand smart phones on the market today. In addition, both of these companies have other cellular service providers like AT&T, Sprint, and T-Mobile to sell their phones. This creates little bargaining power for Verizon, which can only use their reputation and customer base as a driving force for their bargaining power. Simply put, without Apple and Google Android phones, Verizon would not sell very many phones. Therefore, Verizon must keep a very close relationship with its providers, especially the phone manufacturers. These relationships Verizon has is very pivotal in their overall strategy, because without these two phone companies, Verizon would most likely not be in the cellular service industry. Consequently, Verizon must keep a very healthy relationship with these phone companies, because they can decrease/stop the supply chain, which ultimately would
AT&T’s roots stretches all the way back to 1875, when Alexander Graham Bell created the first telephone. The main reason AT&T was created was to exploit the creation of the telephone. AT&T became a parent company to the Bell system, which was a phone company monopoly. They created a long distance telephone network that went from New York to Chicago and then on to San Francisco. Then in 1984 AT&T split into eight different phone companies. They built out to Denver in 1899 and then they hit a rough patch, the signal wasn’t too strong. Luckily, AT&T created the first practical electrical amplifier in 1913. And this made transcontinental communication possible. Bell’s patent expired in 1894 and only Bell telephone could only legally operate in the U.S. The number of telephones grew as phone wires spread across the nation, there where about 3,317,000 phones. The only downside to this early story is that, only phones with the same phone company could contact each other, this was being fixed in 1913. In 1925 there was a new president, Walter Gifford, he sold International Western Electrical Company to the ITT for 33 million to make AT&T universal. In January 1, 1984 was changed and revitalized, it no longer was the bell system. It had a new global icon, as you see today. IN 1984 AT&T carried around 37.5 million calls a day. CEO, Robert Allen, announced that on Septemb...
In conclusion, current trends and significant events concerning T-Mobile were examined. A hard look was given to the economy, demographics, technology, political and legal issues, and social characteristics. T-Mobile is strong across the board, with surprising statistics backing up a variety of topics. The economy is strong, the demographics are not far-fetched, technology is improving, there’s no huge political or legal scandal, and T-Mobile is socially strong.
Verizon Wireless is the only company that I’ve used for my phone for as long as I can remember. That company had my first ever phone when I was 10; it was one of those old brick LG slider phones and currently Verizon houses my iPhone 6. At 19 years of age going onto 20, I’ve dealt with Verizon for almost 10 years now. During these past ten years, I’ve never had the experiences that I dealt with, with any other company. Verizon has some of the worst customer service known to man-kind. According to ConsumerAffairs.com [Verizon’s score is 2/5] one customer had this to say, “I have been with Verizon for many years and every year it gets worse and worse. I constantly have problems with them, whether it's about paying the bill or about the tech issues.
Upon the acquisition and merger of legacy AT&T Wireless by Cingular Wireless and the solidification of SBC, BellSouth and Cingular Wireless, the New AT&T mobility business unit now leads in the current market share narrowly over Verizon Wireless.
Explain the connection between the economic model of corporate social responsibility and “free market” or “neoclassical” economic theory.
This graph shows that Verizon controls 31% of the U.S. wireless provider market share. Verizon has been increasing their competitive advantage over AT&T by introducing the Iphone to its arsenal and by providing high quality service for its customers. AT&T on the other hand has been dealing with network issues and has lost the exclusivity to the Iphone. AT&T’s Current Sponsorship Activation With the NCAA Final Four
The Facts: Kermit Vandivier works for B.F. Goodrich. His job assignment was to write the qualifying report on the four disk brakes for LTV Aerospace Corporation. LTV purchased aircraft brakes from B.F. Goodrich for the Air Force. Goodrich desperately wanted the contract because it guaranteed a commitment from the Air Force on future brake purchases for the A7D from them, even if they lost money on the initial contract.
By 1993, Vodafone's international reach extends, with licenses and partnerships in Germany, South Africa, Fiji, Australia, and Greece (www.vodafone.com). Vodafone started networks for mobile phones in these other countries. Their strategy was to acquire competitors in order to knock out competition and become more competitive than its rivals (www.associatedcontent.com). March of 1994, Vodafone joins up with the Globalstar consortium to develop and launch low orbit satellite capability to supplement land-network coverage (www.vodafone.com). Also, in November of the same year Vodafone launches digital data fax and SMS (Short text messaging) service (www.vodafone.com).

Ethical behavior is merely making good business decisions based on an established "code of ethics". Entrepreneurs should establish a written code of ethics that can serve as a framework for decisions to be made by the entrepreneur as well as the employees. In developing this code of ethics you should consider the following items:
