Recommended: True Meaning of Life
I’ve always tried to think though my decisions and things I do in life. But It was only during an experience at a festival in the desert; Midburn, that my entire thinking on life and living changed and meaning in life was found through happiness and nature. Psychologists’ understand human behaviors by looking into experiences, including the origin of emotions, thoughts, and behaviors. Throughout the last century, society has been fascinated by the possibilities of humanity a better future. The fact that during this festival many attendees represent the future and the unknown that gives our society the ability to continue to project our own ideas of what can be created. Through these advances, we cannot predict the future, but we can allow …show more content…
It is very difficult to describe and explain what kind of experiences one can have until they experience it themselves. Where now around 65,000 people gather in the harsh conditions of the desert in a temporary city that creates the most unique, intense, insane, and chaotic experiences in the world. The purpose of the event is that one does not leave any trace that they were there, not even a cigarette ash. Therefore once the event is over the city disappears as if it was never there. Midburn first took place in 2014 with about 3,000 participants that celebrate radical expression, established dozens of camps and created dozens of installations. Now To date, Midburn is the third largest burning man regional event in the world with 11,000 participants with 9,000 as volunteers, 900 children, and the rest internationals after Burning man in the US, and Afrikaburn in South Africa. …show more content…
Five years after this started this event was transferred to where the event has been held in the Black Rock Desert. This event is very unique because it runs solely on volunteers and participants who determine what to create. There are close to 200 theme camps that each have their own ideas on how to contribute to the event, such as setting up bars, clubs, lectures, and seminars. Everything at this event is free, you bring what you can to be self reliant and gift to others, nothing is for purchase at this event other than ice. The camps are set up like a clock from 1:30-10:30 with the center filled with work that Artists paved in the desert soil with interactive giant displays. Whereas at night the desert comes to life and becomes a display of light, color, fire and music. The participants are dressed in colorful clothes that were specially prepared for the event months in advance, riding bicycles decorated with colorful lighting, decorated vehicles carrying balloons in the depth of the desert. There are also interactive art exhibits illuminated by colorful lights and parties that continue into the small hours of the night. (Midburn
The article “Sleeping in the Dust at Burning Man,” appeared in Tikkun Magazine, and is written by Ron Feldman. This article was published in 2013, however; Feldman attended the Burning Man Festival in 2010 and continues to return every year. Although he isn’t an expert on how the Burning Man Festival is related to the Judaism religion, he does include many quotes from his experiences as well as experts. Feldman also used quotes from a previously written essay by Fenton Johnson, who rejected the Burning Man. Strangely, Johnson’s disapproval increased the articles significance so the reader could hear multiple opinions. Throughout the article, Feldman includes his personal opinions on the festival, but primarily including comparisons of the Burning
Kuhn’s theory of paradigm shift. Mr. Bawazer offers a strong case. As an example from Mr. Kuhn’s theory we can understand how the different dog breeds evolved from the wolf. Depending on what type of breed you want from a hunting dog to a family dog breed, you can alter the DNA by letting the alpha dog to continue to breed or not. Next, we can realized that everything in this planet contains molecules or genes that can be altered. We also recognize that paradigm science and paradigm shift is a circular state not a steady line. This means that we have to adjust to what is going on the present time and expand from it, but always remember how it was done in the past. Thomas Edison well said “I have not failed. I’ve just found 10,000 ways that won’t work.” The only way to change science is to continue to try without being afraid of failing. If different engineers and industries unites forces to promote the use of natural resources rather than inventing new ones and also with the help of the government of going “green” will definitely help the environment to prevent
8th Fire: Indigenous in the City, is part of a documentary series that describes the challenges that aboriginal people face when moving to the large cities from reservations. The documentary begins by describing the stereotypes that English Canadians as well as other visible minority groups perceive aboriginal people to be. They show how damaging the stereotypes are to the First Nations, especially in the area of education. The documentary concludes by offering a few some solutions of how to change and improve the relationship between the aboriginal community and the rest of Canada. The two main aspects of the film that I will focus my analysis on is the education system from past to present and the negative impacts it has had on the First Nation’s people as well as aboriginal stereotyping. These two themes were the most prominent topics brought up throughout the film, and while one topic was well argued and framed, the other I will argue was more damaging than educational. I should mention that due to my ethnicity being of aboriginal decent, Métis in particular, I was extremely critical of the film because though these issues need to be addressed publicly, if they are presented in the wrong light, it can cause more negative implications than positives.
Many individuals strive to be the best and thrive in this world inhabited by seven billion people, by taking control over their own destiny. However, success requires a sacrifice of personal desires and ambitions at times which not a lot amongst us are willing to give. It is sooner or later that the temporary reformation fails and their true self resurfaces where they are back at where they began. A lot of us are unwillingly left to deal and live with these unfortunate circumstances. The impact that these events leave upon us is very significant and sometimes temporary. The poem, "The tent delivery woman's ride" by Wilmer Mills, and my own experience explains that the significant events negatively effect an individual's ability to determine
Atwood takes many of today’s potential scientific developments and illustrates the worst possible outcome of what may happen if we continue the unregulated pursuit of knowledge. In reality, the scientific advances of today will yield a higher standard of living for the majority of the world tomorrow. We will continue to push for the best in everything including science, medicine, and technology; we will not allow any single person to make the sole decision to develop an idea. Scientific progression will save many lives; therefore, it should and will always be there for us.
An individual’s meaning or purpose in life cannot truly be realized unless they are faced with a situation in which their course of action directly affects their future. In most cases, humankind is forced to face an extreme circumstance when something comes to an end, whether it be positive or negative, for that ending means that change is inevitable and approaching. Thus, life becomes more meaningful as something ends, for people are forced to realize what is truly important to them as well as the idea that nothing lasts forever. Individuals must choose which of the aspects and goals of their lives are the most significant and should be focused on as they approach a resolution, as can be seen in the Gawain Poet’s Sir Gawain and the Green Knight and William Shakespeare’s Hamlet. Therefore, due to the finality of an ending and the uncertainty of the following events, humankind can reveal what they believe are the
This book is about the human mind and the abstractness of our visions and memories. Everything affects us physically and mentally. We all share a common feature; we are all simply human with simple human minds.
There are some human phenomena, which seem to be the result of individual actions and personal decisions. Yet, these phenomena are often - on closer inspection – as much a result of social factors as of psychological ones.
Later on in the year, around August, the first of many large-scale riots began to break out. The first one was in Los Angeles, California and lasted for a little over three weeks. This single riot killed 39 people during its wrath of burning block after block. This riot was in a sense a sign of the new revolution to come, due to the song “Burn, Baby Burn” by the Creators, being played...
There is great reward in the study of psychology; the study of the Homo sapiens species. Their minds that include intellect, intelligence, habits and behavior rationalizing just as the quote at the beginning advocates—the entire world, history and future, revolves around them. Psychology, not limited to contemporary, “is a rich and varied subject that can simulate theoretical questions while at the same time offering practical application in almost all areas of everyday life” (Cherry). This is the gift that Leon Festinger was born with in New York City on May 8th, 1919. From there, he would go on to earn his Bachelor of Science degree from City College of New York in 1939 (Cherry). Psychology is a science. It has its methodology and asks for phenom...
Tranquility fills the dull atmosphere. Not knowing how much water the clouds contain before the downpour starts, we innocently set ourselves up for an endless journey; a journey to find the purpose in life. A droplet of rain trickles down onto the top of your head, following a shower of many more droplets. Lightning flashes and booms of thunder take over the sky. Many are hesitant of whether to continue their journey or hide from this storm; an umbrella can only give so much protection against the rapid winds and stinging raindrops. Many describe thunderstorms in a frightening way, but the strong willed individuals who embrace the storm think with positivity - rain is changing the environment and bringing life to the world. Once the rain subsides, the atmosphere, exhausted and worn out, settles down back into the calm tranquil environment that it once was. The sky, once filled with dark and murky clouds, is filled with blue. One may either face the challenge they have been approached with to move on, or decline and stay caught in a storm. An individual’s view of the world has immense power of whether one’s obstacles will result in failure or achievement. It is the mentality that we approach life’s challenges that determine the positive or negative outcomes in our lives.

Masses will travel from all around the world, locally, and throughout the country all to participate in a once a year event. All of the participants take part in a temporary city that is Burning Man, and will light a giant wooden man, burning it to nothing but ashes here in Nevada’s Black Rock desert. This event is described as an experiment of itself and art that followers ten main principles, “radical” inclusion, self-reliance, and self-expression with the purpose of community cooperation, civic responsibility, gifting, participation, immediacy, decommodification, and leaving no trace. In recent Burning Man events, the theme for Burning Man was, “Da Vinci’s Workshop”, which offered those who participated the opportunity to experience and
Even in our everyday life we can see how past knowledge helps to improve the future's outcome. Whether it is improvement of policies, electronics or automobiles improvement is always occurring. The computer is one such item which has come a long way. It would taking up entire rooms, run very slowly, and create tremendous amounts of heat. As improvement began they became smaller, faster and more energy efficient. Today they are very small, and run at tremendously high speeds while producing very little heat. Each improvement in the computers history could not have been made without knowledge of its predecessor's blueprints. Without this knowledge improvement would be impossible, always building the same exact computers with the same problems and never realizing it could have been built in a different way perhaps with better materials or a different more efficient computer language.
