The Burmese pythons are native to Southeast Asia. They can grow to the length of
twenty three feet or longer. They can also grow to be two hundred pounds. They can grow to
have the girth of a telephone pole. When they are young they spend most of their time in trees.
As they grow they become too heavy to climb so they spend most of their time on the ground.
The Burmese pythons are also great swimmers and can stay underwater for 30 minutes before
coming up for air.
The Burmese pythons are one of the largest snakes on Earth. They are carnivores and
their diet consists mainly on small mammals and birds. They are even capable of eating
alligators. The Burmese python has bad eyesight but instead they stalk prey with chemical
receptors in their tongues.

They also have heat-sensors along their jaw. They kill by constriction and have the ability to swallow their prey whole because of the stretchy ligaments in their jaw. The Burmese pythons mostly travel alone and are only seen together during mating seasons.
The females are able to lay up to 100 eggs at a time that they incubate for two to three
months. They continually contract their muscles to keep their eggs warm.
The Burmese python are in the kingdom Animalia, phylum Chordata, class Reptilia,
order Squamata, family Boidae, and their genus and species is Python molurus. Some common
names would be Burmese python or tiger python.
Burmese pythons are a big nuisance in Florida. They have been reported in the
Everglades National Park since the 1980s. We believe that these Burmese pythons escaped from
a breeding facility during hurricane Andrew. Another reason could be that pet Burmese pythons
were released into the Everglades by owners. Because of the Burmese python reproduction rate
it will be very hard to get rid of them.
The Burmese pythons pose a threat to humans because these pythons eat almost any
mammal in the Everglades. These pythons are an invasive species because they are endangering
some native species in the Everglades. Numerous threatened bird species have been endangered
by these pythons. These pythons are capable of eating pets such as cats and
dogs. According to the article “Burmese Pythons in the Everglades” on www.baboongame.com/blog/burmese-pythons-everglades#.VL_AR0fF9UU ,”As the population of pythons has spiraled upwards in the last decade, mammal observations have declined by the following percentages: 87.5% bobcat decline, 94.1% white-tail deer decline, 98.9% opossum decline, 99.3% raccoon decline, 100% rabbit decline, and 100% fox decline.” Because of the python these animals have decreased in numbers. In conclusion, the Burmese pythons have to be driven out of the Everglades before animals start becoming extinct in the Everglades. If they don’t get killed or stopped many things could go wrong and it could cause a threat to humans. 300,000 Burmese pythons occupy south Florida and unless something is done this will continue to grow larger and larger. Because of this problem the importation of Burmese pythons was banned in 2012 by the US Department of Interior. These pythons could make many animals in the Everglades go extinct and they must be stopped.
Native to the jungles and to the grassy marshes of Southeast Asia, the Burmese pythons are said to have been first reported in the Everglades in 2000. They are capable of reaching 23 feet or more in length and weighing up to 400 pounds (documented case in captivity) with a girth that can be as big as
They do not posses enough muscle to perform everyday tasks that are second nature for
this is due to the habitat they live in and the small number of people living
To try an prevent this from happening the Federal Government put a ban on the importation and selling of Burmese Pythons. However, it is unlikely for this to occur. If Burmese pythons were to encounter freezing temperatures this would be life threatening. Burmese pythons have trouble eating as well as digesting their food at temperatures below sixty degrees which makes it more likely for them to stay where warmer temperatures are common. An interesting question then occurs. Will a Burmese Python ever adapt to cooler temperatures or develop the adaptation to hibernate? This would have to occur in order for the python to leave its current
How are Burmese pythons get here? Many people believe that they were brought from other countries like Southeast Asia and were kept as pets when brought to the U.S. When the pythons became too big for the owner to handle they would release them into the wild. Not only that, but the pythons were also released from animal warehouses in Miami, Florida, when a devastating hurricane hit. Many of the shipments that are sent into Miami with wildlife are sent to such animal warehouses. 12,000 shipments of wildlife are sent to Miami every year. Including in the last four years alone 140,000 wild caught pythons were shipped to these wildlife facilities for studies. After the hurricane hit the warehouse, the pythons slithered their way to the Everglades where a variety of food could be obtained and where hiding places could ...

Males are usually larger than females, but there are no obvious physical differences that mark their sexes. There is only one very slight difference in the pattern of scales in front of the cloaca. Though it is difficult for researchers to identify the sexes, the Komodos seem to have no trouble. They mate between the months of May and August. The female lays about 30 eggs and the incubation cycle is roughly 9 months (Benyus, 1992).
larger and heavier than the males. An average female (called a falcon) weighs a little over
What its eating habits are: Like all members of the cat family, tigers are carnivores. The Siberian tiger hunts a wide range of prey, including small mammals, deer, water buffalo, wild pigs, and birds. Tigers ambush their prey, often camouflaging themselves and observing their intended victims for long periods of time. Siberian tigers are strong animals, able to tackle large animals almost twice their size, and render the victim helpless by inflicting a series of deadly bites into the animal's spine or throat. This semi-nocturnal animals covers 6-12 miles each night in search of food.
What animal is black and white and loved all over the world? If you guessed the giant panda, you're right! The giant panda is also known as the panda bear, bamboo bear, or in Chinese as Daxiongmao, the "large bear cat." Actually, its scientific name means "black and white cat-footed animal." Giant pandas are found only in the mountains of central China. They live in dense bamboo and coniferous forests at altitudes of 5,000 to 10,000 feet. The mountains are covered in heavy clouds with torrential rains or dense mist throughout the year. Giant pandas are bear-like in shape with striking black and white markings.
When the colony becomes well established, the queen begins to lay some eggs that develop into queens and males. It takes a few years before a colony becomes large enough to send out winged males and young queens to start new colonies. The cycle will now begin all over again. Nests come in all shapes and sizes. One tropical species built a nest that extended forty feet below the surface of the ground.
The Lao People’s Democratic Republic, or Laos, is a politically stable and peaceful landlocked country in Southeast Asia, centrally located in the Mekong sub-region. The country occupies about 236,800 square kilometers and almost half the length of the Mekong River that flows through it. It is bordered by China to the north, Myanmar and Thailand to the west, Cambodia to the south and Vietnam to the east. The country has a tropical monsoon climate with a rainy season from May to October. Temperatures range from highs of 40°C along the Mekong River in March and April to lows of 5°C in the high mountains in January. (The World Fact Book) Most of Laos is covered by mountains and dense forests and its population density is among the lowest in Asia. Laos has a population of about 5.6 million, comprising 47 ethnic groups.
