Keeping students safe from bullying and aggressive behavior of students is very important, especially in the world we live in today. Are school’s doing what is necessary to ensure that students are safe from students with intentions to harm other students? Are the polices for bullying and aggressive behavior not enforced enough? These are some questions to consider about school safety/Discipline.
Bullying has been an issue for as long as one can remember. Bullying is a serious yet sensitive topic. Bullying has caused students to not only kill themselves but take the life of innocent students and teachers. Remember The Virginia Tech Massacre? Seung-Hui Cho killed
32 people that included students and teachers. Seung-Hui Cho was bullied by fellow high school

Teachers must pay attention the small things; it should even be a requirement for teachers talk to students about their day or how they are feeling. If only a teacher would have noticed Seung being bullied things would have been different.
We won’t put all the blame on teachers but more so the education department. What are the school’s policies on bullying and aggressive behavior? Maybe the policies are little bit to light and students don’t take them serious. It’s possible that if schools made their bullying policies a little stricter then bullying would decrease. Instead of suspending students and allowing them to come back to school maybe after the second time they should be expelled. If students know that there would major consequences for their actions maybe they won’t do the things they do.
In order to keep schools safe, one thing that is definitely needed is more security. It’s way too easy to get on campuses these days. Schools must require more documentation of who comes on the campuses.
Not only is security needed, but also metal detectors. Every other day this reports of violence in schools that includes guns, knives and other weapons. People may think there isn’t
National Resource Center for Safe Schools. (2001). New study reveals prevalence, harm of bullying. The Safety Zone, 3(1), 1-2. Retrieved August 15, 2010, from http://www.safetyzone.org/publications/zone8_story1.html
School violence has become an increased peril, affecting not only those involved, but the society in itself. The underlying reason for this phenomenon is that it is derived from bullying and easy access of weapons. It can even happen by the hands of a person who does not attend the school where the act takes place. Bullying has become an epidemic in America amongst school children. Though there are rules enforced about weapons at school, the weapon is usually not detected until the incident takes place. I have witnessed violence in the form of fighting while in school, however, I have never imagined that it has become so aggressive and affects children at younger ages. We must take a bold stand to stop these incidents from occurring!
Bullying and Violence in Public Schools Although bullying has always been a problem in schools, it has more recently become a bigger crisis with vicious consequences. “However it is defined, bullying is not just a child’s play, but a terrifying experience many schoolchildren face everyday. It can be as direct as teasing, hitting or threatening, or as indirect as exclusions, rumors or manipulation” (Garrett 2). Most kids do not think certain actions are classified as bullying, yet they do not realize the severity of the way they treat their peers.
Imagine yourself watching the News before you go to bed or while you are sipping your cup of coffee before you leave to beat the morning rush. Now imagine, the News without the coverage that involves bullying. Unfortunately this is hard to do because incidents that involve bullying fill the News. Bullying happens in homes, in schools, at work, in the military; and just about everywhere else. Bullying needs to be stopped immediately at younger ages to end the reoccurrence of bullying throughout everyday life.
Students are supposed to feel safe at school and we need to know how to advocate for students properly when this is not that case. There needs to be a zero tolerance anti bullying policy in place at the school. There are many anti bullying programs and one of these needs to be in place at the school. All school staff need to know how to properly intervene when they see a student being bullied or harmed. This ultimately means that the school needs to have a district wide prevention plan that is regularly implemented. Also, they need to have an intervention plan so they are prepared to intervene in certain circumstances.
Many people in our world believe that they have the authority to determine someone else 's worth. In our society, people are being called degrading and horrible things constantly. This is known as bullying. Bullying is defined as unwanted or aggressive behavior towards an individual that is usually repeated over time. The way someone views themselves is important to their character and way of life. If a person is constantly told that they are "ugly" or "worth nothing", it might shape them into what they see in the mirror on a daily basis. Dark thoughts that result from bullying can lead to a dark way of life and even suicidal thoughts. Bullying should be a crime because it can lead to depression and suicide in some cases.
Bullying.. it has been around for who knows how long and it is becoming a big problem in the past couple of years. Professor Louise Arseneault, senior author, also from the Institute of Psychiatry at King's adds: "We need to move away from any perception that bullying is just an inevitable part of growing-up. Teachers, parents and policy-makers should be aware that what happens in the school playground can have long-term repercussions for children. Programmes to stop bullying are extremely important, but we also need to focus our efforts on early intervention to prevent potential problems persisting into adolescence and adulthood." I agree with this this statement 100% we need to stop looking at how this is all can be a learning process and they have to get through this. Bullying is becoming a world problem and needs to be put to a stop.
Bullying is a serious issue and has an adverse effect that could lead to depression, anxiety, and worse suicide. To become a bully takes a long process, with the help from parents, schools, communities, and social media, bullies and bullying can be prevented.
Bullying has always been a problem within the past century and has become an epidemic. However, because of social media people are becoming more aware of the issues associated with bullying and how it has become a trend in today’s society. You turn on the news and you are hearing about kids being bullied and the end result is suicide. Bullying is occurring worldwide. Not only is it happening in our schools and social networks, but also in the work place. The various types of bullying that exist and the attempt to entirely eliminate them is not achievable because of individual and environmental factors.
...of rule-setting against bullying should be implemented not only on an individual level, but on a classroom and school-level as well. "The school," says Dan Olweus, "has a responsibility to stop bullying behavior and create a safe learning environment for all students." He suggests a curriculum that constantly monitors abusive behavior, promotes kindness, acceptance of differences and educates teachers, school staff, parents and children alike about bullying and response strategies.
Bullying has been a part of schooling for as long as children have been congregating. To some it seems like a natural, though uncomfortable, part of life and school experience, while to others it can mean terrifying experiences which spoiled and characterized otherwise happy years in school. Dan Olweus, a pioneer in bully behavior research documented that 2.7 million children are affected as victims, and that 2.1 children act as bullies (Fried, 1997, as cited in Aluedse, 2006). With bullying cited as the reason for violent, gun-related crime in the past few years, school districts as well as national governments have put anti-bullying policies in place. Bullying is a complicated phenomenon, involving more than one child demanding lunch money from a smaller child. It is a worldwide epidemic hitting schools everywhere. Virtually everyone has seen or experienced bullying. With technological advances, bullying is even hitting the internet. Parents, teachers, students and governments agencies alike are attempting to put a stop to bullying practices.
Bullying is common in High Schools and Middle Schools not only in United States but also around the world and Larry Ott was severely bullied in school and marginalized by the people in town.
A category of strategies to prevent bullying in schools is identifying the causes of bullying. One factor that may cause bullying is the students’s family life. The lack of love or approval and involvement from the parents or overly permissive parenting where there is a lack of supervision or no rules may initiate bullying as the child may feel insecure. Another factor that may cause bullying is peer pressure. Friends who are aggressive and hav...
Bullying is a repeated harmful act that continues to affect millions of students every year. There is no stereotypical person that is a target for bullying; anyone can be its victim. There may not always be any signs of physical harm during these attacks, but our children always suffer emotional harm. Educating students, teachers and parents seems to be the only valid solution to this problem. There are many organizations that can educate the schools on this subject but for it to work people must care. Maybe one day, when enough people realize that this problem will not go away with out their help, we can eliminate bullying from our schools. In a perfect world there would be no bullying, but if you could ask Rachel Scott she would tell you we do not live in a perfect world, only a hopeful one.
Bullying of students in school is an abuse that affects and produces a number of negative experiences on the victim. It is proven that those students who bully do so merely because they see themselves superior than those being bullied. They use this as a tactic to make juniors fear them and show them that they are not equal in any way. Some will even bully as a revenge of the bullying they suffered in the past. I have been bullied before and I know some of the effects it could have on a person. Bullying is a serious cause of many issues and has effects that may be long lasting.
