Bullying
According to makebeatsnotbeatdowns.org, 1 in 7 Students in Grades K-12 is either a bully or a victim of bullying. Bullying is a major issue that many victims all over the world experience and has been happening for a very long time. Bullying has been responsible for many unfortunate incidents that happen to young adolescence. In the novel "Cracked" the author K.M. Walton reveals that bullying has a social, psychological, physical, and emotional effect on adolescents. Bullying can have negative effects on adolescents socially because victims become isolated from friends and family. It can have psychological effects because, victims can suffer from depression and anxiety. Emotional effects from bullying can occur because victims start

One of the major issues with bullying is that bullies tend to have more an impact on a adolescent than other. Bull is target those who are deemed too weak compared to themselves and ten hit them where it hurts. More often than that, the place where it may hurt the most is the mind. Bullies mess with their victims heads and that can really disrupt someone's thought process which can later lead to mental problems. According to the article The Psychological Effects Of Bullying Last Well Into Adulthood, Study Finds "More studies are beginning to confirm the sometimes serious psychological effects of bullying, particularly for the bullied, like increased risk for depression and anxiety" (Walton). With that being said, Bullying can cause victims to have a lower self esteem and think lowly of themselves. Constant verbal and physical attacks from a bully can make the victim feel very lowly of themselves. Worst of all, these victims will start to actually believe what the bully has to say about them. This can later cause mental disorders such as depression and anxiety to develop. Later if the bullying continues, severe depression can occur. Not only does bulling have a psychological effect, It can can have an emotional effect on adolescents as
Bullying has many negative effects on many people such as the victim, the bully himself, and society. Studies show these effects may turn out to be short-term or long-term.
Bullying has become a major problem facing the United States today. The American Psychological Association reports that roughly 40% to 80% of children are involved in bullying on some level during their time in school. (APA, 2014) The magnitude of the problem can be observed in the statistics. In the United States, a total of 4,080,879 children between the ages of five and 18 have been the victims of bullying compared to 3,892,199 who have reported that they have engaged in bullying someone else. Additionally, 851,755 said that they have been both the victim and the bully. That's a whopping 8,824,833 people in the United States that have been involved in bullying behavior on one level or another. (High, B., 2000 Census)
It is highly proven that the bully and the victim will think or even plan to commit suicide. Bullying is a big reason kids develop depression and it’s something schools can never get rid of. There’s always going to be a kid who feels the need to put other kids down to make them feel better about themselves. Once a kid gets bullied he/she is constantly reminded by that bully that they are not important and they don’t belong anywhere, and once they finally give up and starting believing what they were told they see no point to living anymore. All because they feel as if they don’t “belong” anywhere. This causes kids to hurt themselves and want to end their lives. They develop depression and start losing interest in school, stop being social, change their appearance, and it may even lead kids to drugs and drinking. Cyber bullying even puts you at a bigger risk of getting depression. Depression is an illness that no one can really understand but many things can cause it. Depression is something you can’t really get over, if you were bullied as a kid then you are at a higher risk of suffering from depression and mental disorders as an adult. When you get bullied a long chain of events can happen that the bully may not even realize. Bullying someone causes depression and that depression cause low self-esteem, anxiety, and the victim may even become physically ill. Bullying and depression have
Bullying has been around for a long time, but the negative influence that it has on society is becoming overbearing. Bullying can occur anywhere, from the workplace to the store, but its main host is the school compound. Bullying in school is a major concern, not just for Americans, but internationally. Some of the negative influences of bullying are depression and anxiety in students, which is causing them to become drug addicts. Also, bullying is one of the major causes of suicide among teens in the United States.
"A person is bullied when he or she is exposed, repeatedly and over time, to negative actions on the part of one or more other persons, and he or she has difficulty defending himself or herself." Dan Olweus (Olweus1). Bullying effects millions of kids on a daily basis and will most likely never cease to stop. According to international studies, bullying is common and affects anywhere from nine to fifty-four percent of children (Parker-Pope). Statistics also show that seventeen percent of students in grades sixth through tenth reported having been bullied "sometimes" or more with eight percent being bullied once a week, and ninteen percent said they had been a bully to others "sometimes" or more (Olweus2). Bullying has the capability of lasting effects on a ones physcological state, as well as physical. No human being should be in constant fear of when a bully may strike next, or whether one will survive the next day. For this reason, bullying awareness programs should be implemented in schools across the nation to aid and battle bullying to protect kids as well as teach the importance of anti-bullying.
Bullying is a serious issue and has an adverse effect that could lead to depression, anxiety, and worse suicide. To become a bully takes a long process, with the help from parents, schools, communities, and social media, bullies and bullying can be prevented.
Everyone has been bullied or encountered someone being bullied at some point of their life. Whether it would be physically or verbally both can be exceedingly traumatizing and can have a long-term psychological influence on children’s development. Majority people may define bullying in a more physical term; nevertheless that’s not always the case. The act of bullying can occur in several ways and in reality affect the individual in the same way. Bullying is generally defined as repeated, negative, and harmful actions focused at target throughout a course of time, exhibiting a sense of power difference between the bully and the victim (Olweus, 1993; Limber & Mihalic, 1999 as cited from Douglas J. Boyle, 2005). A survey was conducted in the United States estimating that over six million children, about 30% in grade six through ten have experienced frequent bullying in a school environment (Nansel, 2001 as cited from Douglas J. Boyle, 2005). Many people might debate that bullying is something that every child goes through and is simply a part of growing up, although there are several damaging consequences that happens to the child’s brain. Bullying causes the child to feel upset, isolated, frightened, anxious, and depressed. They feel like they reason they are being picked on is because there is something wrong with them and may even lose their confidence feel unsafe going to school (Frenette, 2013 as cited from Douglas J. Boyle, 2005) Anthropologically, sociologically, or psychologically, bullying can be analyzed through different perspectives and several questions can be asked based on the topic:
This can affect their grades, which in turn affects their ability to get into a good college and impacts their future. If a child is being bullied, they may be afraid to reach out and seek help. They may not know that there are people out there willing to help them, or they may be afraid of seeking help from a counselor or teacher in fear of it leading to more bullying. If these children do not get the help that they need, they can develop mental health problems. These may persist into their future if they continue being bullied or if they do not get the help that they need.
Bullying has been a part of schooling for as long as children have been congregating. To some it seems like a natural, though uncomfortable, part of life and school experience, while to others it can mean terrifying experiences which spoiled and characterized otherwise happy years in school. Dan Olweus, a pioneer in bully behavior research documented that 2.7 million children are affected as victims, and that 2.1 children act as bullies (Fried, 1997, as cited in Aluedse, 2006). With bullying cited as the reason for violent, gun-related crime in the past few years, school districts as well as national governments have put anti-bullying policies in place. Bullying is a complicated phenomenon, involving more than one child demanding lunch money from a smaller child. It is a worldwide epidemic hitting schools everywhere. Virtually everyone has seen or experienced bullying. With technological advances, bullying is even hitting the internet. Parents, teachers, students and governments agencies alike are attempting to put a stop to bullying practices.
The effects of bullying are depression, stress, not wanting to go to school and the worst one is committing suicide. The first one I want to talk about is depression. Some kids, when bullied, go into depression and that can result in suicide. It also causes stress. If you are under stress, it might cause you to go into depression and possibly commit suicide.
When bullying become the topic of discussion, most people just talk about how it affected them in that moment, but what people tend to overlook is the long term causes and changes it can have on a person and their social self. Later in life, many people that were reported to have been bullied, struggle with anxiety and self-confidence and the ones that are the bully normally struggle with alcohol and drug abuse as they get older. Bullying during the childhood years of a person’s life has been known to produce life altering effects on their social self-including drug and alcohol abuse, confidence in social life, and can cause post-traumatic stress disorder. Many people who have been bullied during a time in their life are reported to have a severe decline in self-confidence and anxiety when they are in large groups.
Bullying is an issue that has been around for decades and is something that can affect everyone, no matter what his or her age is. Even though bullying has changed over the years from being physical abuse and harassment that happens on the playgrounds of schoolyards to tormenting over the Internet. The same groups are still affected namely adolescents. Statistically about 30 percent of all teenagers in the United States are bullied in one-way or another (“Teenage Bullying”).
A major effect of bullying is the way it can change the victim 's personality. It may cause someone who is regularly self-sufficient and full of joy to become anxious, and hesitant. Consequently, victims may even become depressed or suicidal. Their self-sufficientness could possibly flee, keeping them from experiencing

An estimated amount of 160,000 students across the United States misses school each day due to being a victim of bullying. From a present study, 29% of students involved in bullying, 14% of the children were said to be victims, 7% were bullies, and 8% were bullies and victims. The worst type of social behavior stems from bullying, and leads to complications in a student’s future.
