Kane Brown has had a very rough life. From going to 12 different schools, to getting bullied, to being abused by his own stepfather. (Wikipedia) What would you do if any of these happened to you? Instead of sitting the rest of his life and being depressed about all of the negative things in his life, Kane Brown took all of those negative things and wrote songs about them. For example in his song “Learning” Brown talks about how even though he was abused, and he watched most of his friends become terrible people, or die, he was “learning how to let it go” as he stated in the song. If you’ve had a rough time in life, you will definitely be inspired by Kane Brown and his story.

In Edward Enslow’s “The Man in Black” Johnny Cash states, “We were very poor, and I almost died of starvation as a child.” This quote shows how life was a struggle for Cash in his early life. Facing all the many challenges was difficult for him but he found a way through it. Through his older brother Jack, he was able to cope with his life growing up. Jack was a huge role model to Johnny growing up, he would teach...

Bruce Springsteen was born on September 23, 1949 to working class parents in New Jersey where he was born and raised. His father, Doug Springsteen, had difficulty maintaining a steady job and his mother, Adele, worked as a secretary. Springsteen attended Catholic school and had a religious upbringing. Bruce and his father had a troublesome relationship that influenced his songwriting greatly. Bruce had stated that if his relationship with his father had been better, then “I would have written happy songs—and I tried it in the early 90’s and it didn’t work… Anyway, I put on his work clothes and went to work.”(Bruce Springsteen Biography 1) Bruce Springsteen’s songs are homage to the working class, are influenced by current events, and are full of symbolism.
Bruce Frederick Joseph Springsteen was born September 23, 1949 to his parents Douglas Frederick Springsteen and Adele Ann. He was born and raised in Long Branch, New Jersey. He often references his childhood home and neighborhood in his songs. Growing up in a New Jersey town, baseball was a big part of that community. Young Carter swung his way into rap at a youthful age as a departure from the drugs, savagery and destitution that encompassed him in the Marcy Projects. Jay wanted to better himself and did that by getting out of what is known as the “corner life lifestyle.” Be that as it may, despite the fact that he had a stage name, Jay Z remained generally unknown until he and two companions, Damon Dash and Kareem Burke, established their own particular record name, Roc-a-Fella Records, in 1996 (Rubin, 2015). In 1989, he joined the rapper Jaz-O—a more seasoned entertainer who served sort of like a mentor that guided to record a song called "The Originators," which won the pair an appearance on a scene of Yo! MTV Raps. It was right when Shawn Carter grasped the nickname Jay Z, which was at the same time a tribute to Jaz-O, a play on Carter's adolescence nickname of "Jazzy" and a reference to the J/Z tram station close to his Brooklyn home (Caramanica, 2012).
Whitney Houston to most was a very amazing and talented person who allowed life and its mishaps break her down. As a young girl she grew up in the church where she felt like it was a sign from God that she should be singing. Freud believes that religion is an illusion, an attempt to gain control over the external world. In his eyes saying that anything is a sign from God depends on how you vision life. There were times in her life where she would produce more music just to get thru the thing that she would be going through. She would use her music as a defense mechanism to get away from all of the abuse, problems with her marriage, neglect, and drugs. Defense mechanisms are ways to distort reality to reduce anxiety: Rationalization is giving a positive reason to a stressor and regression is withdrawing from reality and going to pastime.
For my final map presentation I wanted to introduce a topic that interests me, along with my audience. I am a huge Bruce Springsteen fan, and with growing up in Jersey and along the shore I can only hope that everyone knows of him, about him, or even a few songs of his. Springsteen is legendary for his popularity, beautifully written and performed songs, and his three and half hour long concerts. I have been obsessed with him now for about 5 years and I could not pass up the opportunity to do some research and present a project involving him. I decided to make a map showing where Springsteen played for the first half of his last tour in the Untied States and everywhere he performed at.
