I. INTRODUCTION a. Attention: i. “A goal is not always meant to be reached, it often serves simply as something to aim at” “Defeat is a state of mind; No one is ever defeated until defeat has been accepted as a reality.” These are famous quotes and teachings from the legendary Chuck Norris dominator, Bruce Lee. The dragon…not Bruce Leroy. For those that don’t know, Bruce Lee was not only an actor and martial artist, he was also a philosopher. Who to this day is still considered as one of the most influential martial artists b. Theme: Bruce Lee’s celebrity status also came with struggles, which only fueled his fire to become the visionary leader, I (as well as the universe) know him to be… i. demonstrated transformational leadership with intellectual stimulation as key to …show more content…
his goals of integrating more Chinese philosophy into American films ii. Demonstrated transformational leadership with inspirational motivation in his goal of spreading his philosophies to his followers with words and actions. iii. Fostered diversity in the creation of Jeet Kune Do and the spread of the martial arts practice c. Transition: Before I tell you why the Dragon was a visionary leader and for you to learn, you must “First empty your cup.” II. BODY a. Transformational leadership with intellectual stimulation i. Support (Source): as key to his goals of integrating more Chinese philosophy into American films. Challenged with an industry too contemptuous to see his talents, Bruce Lee relied on things like 1. a massive amount of motivational books 2. diary where he wrote his goals and evolving ideas on a daily basis 3. studying Western and Eastern philosophies 4. believed he had to have the right intellect before he can pursue changing the world. Year’s later, Lee’s arsenal of integrated inspiration gave him the resolve to stake his career on fighting American film executives to insist on including more Chinese philosophy in the film. Lee won. ii. Support (Personal): demonstrated while leading a tiger team in an attempt to improve my organization’s watch support operations to the USPACOM Joint Intelligence Operations Center. This work group was initiated without any structure or template to follow, which made things challenging at first. It took almost a day to establish a way to categorize and dissect the problem to make it easier to discuss topics and issues as well as fuse everything together into an after-action report. I threw out ideas and main problem sets from my past experiences in operations and training which then allowed the team to better brainstorm and scrutinize the main problem from multiple angles. iii. Significance: intellectual stimulation is important because it encourages followers to be innovative and promotes opportunities for leaders to drive significant changes to existing paradigms. b. Transformational leadership with inspirational motivation i. Support (Source): in his goal of launching himself into the action star hero he knew he had the potential to be. After serving his role as Kato in the short-lived television show “The Green Hornet,” Bruce Lee realized that Asian men were not provided leading role opportunities…at least in the American film industry. So shortly after he had his second child, Bruce Lee decided to interject himself from a small TV star to the big screen. He was able to inspire directors, screenwriters, producers of the talent he could bring to the big screen. They eventually gave in to his ideas and Bruce Lee revolutionized cinema for the Asian-American community and a whole new breed of action hero with varying degrees of success by actors like Chuck Norris, Van Damme, Steven Seagal and Jackie Chan ii. Support (Personal): Inspirational motivation as a strength would’ve helped me in this scenario. I lacked the ability to articulate a strong sense of purpose for organizational goals or changes with emotion or passion when I made a big change to my organization’s accountability processes. My organization managed their accountability (work/leave status, appointments, meetings, etc) using a tool that is an agency standard. With civilian-managed team leads, there were personnel accountability inconsistencies sometimes not aligned with the military service leaders. I sought to eliminate this problem and change the existing process and policies regarding accountability. I utilized current policies and leadership directives to improve on the agency standard. I integrated the organization into a database that allowed for different level approvals for things such as leave, tdy, etc and this automatically fed the agency accountability tool. In addition, this new database also streamlined staff meeting products, shift schedules, rosters, and enabled team leads to manage individual section personnel more efficiently. I presented this to the team as logical solutions that comply with directives and work role contracts. I didn’t try to inspire the need for change or deliver a colorful image to advance the changes with extra effort. What this did was, it only delayed implementation or neglect from personnel regarding a tool that benefited the unit as a whole. iii. Significance: This is important because philosophies or ideas become easy to adopt by followers when words and actions are meaningful and purposeful. It’s important for to improve Inspirational Motivation because I would be able to inspire the followers to add more effort towards meeting or surpassing the organization’s goals. Articulating a strong vision for the workforce when changes are implemented to know the “why” can contribute to mission cohesiveness and drive up job satisfaction. c.
Diversity i. Support (Source): Fostered diversity in the creation of Jeet Kune Do and the spread of the martial arts practice. He was diverse in multiple ways. In the development of his created martial art, Jeet Kune Do. Bruce Lee did not rule out any art forms learned. He included different forms of martial arts along with multiple philosophical perspectives and teachings. This art form was concerned solely and exclusively with Bruce Lee’s personal evolution and process of self-discovery through martial arts. Jeet Kune Do was created to accept people as they are and was not about establishing restrictions or ways of doing things. Rather, it’s there to be a source of inspiration and delight for those who are interested in him and his martial arts views. (http://www.fightingmaster.com/styles/jeetkunedo/jeetkunedo.htm) ii. Support (Personal): In my current position, I supervise operations consisting of Soldiers, Sailors, Marines, Airmen, and civilians. All from different services, multiple specialties, different operational experiences, varying ranks, and separate set of rules for the services as well as the agency. iii. Significance: d. There are no limits. There are only plateaus, and you must not stay there, you must go beyond them.” http://bigthink.com/purpose-inc/bruce-lee-on-transformation
Career counselors fill extremely demanding positions requiring an unusual amount of effort to accomplish their mission. The Table of Distribution (TDA) only allows one career counselor position, in every Battalion. The amount of personnel fluctuates between 300-800 Soldiers. As identified above MOS 79S, is currently experiencing a shortage causing an additional workload within a small team of NCOs adding additional stress to an already demanding position. The unique skill set a career counselor possesses are different from any other MOS. Career counselors utilize an automated system called RETAIN. Once a career counselor successfully graduates from the basic career counselor course, they receive access to RETAIN. HQDA and HRC both monitor this system. Only those authorized personnel career counselors have access to this automated system. While a unit can assign an additional duty reenlistment, Noncommissioned officer (NCO) to fill the position they will not have access to

Stanley Martin Lieber, or as the nerd world calls him, Stan Lee, found national renown by building the Marvel Franchise into what it is today, a multi-million dollar company that publishes comic books, shoots movies, designs video games, and creates their own television shows.
Under the direction of the Chaplain, the Chaplain Assistant regulates and organizes all religious support for the unit. They do this by planning, preparing, and execution of the training for worship services. The Chaplain’s Assistant plans the funerals, and religious support plan and command master religious plans (Washington, DC: Headquarters, Dept. of the Army., 2012). In addition to being the Chaplain’s admin they are also there to protect them in battle. Since 742 AD, Chaplains were allowed to accompany the soldiers into combat, but were not allowed to carry guns or to fight (Washington, DC: Headquarters, Dept. of the Army., 2012). The Chaplains main job is to take care of the soldier’s well-being, and the Chaplain Assistant’s job is to assess the soldier’s morale and advises the Chaplain in the appropriate time about the soldiers (Washington, DC: Headquarters, Dept. of the Army., 2012). The Army uses Chaplain Assistants to support the religious mission of the Commander, to assist and protect the Chaplain and lastly they are the bridge between the chaplain and the
Before earning my black belt, I never saw myself as someone who could accomplish great things. I always undermined myself by not using my full potential. I rarely tried to prove myself correct when someone else shot down my statement because I did not know I had the tenacity to take action.
However, development starts day one with training. Therefore, the Soldiers have to be experts who have assumed the character and identity of the profession; professionalism in Soldiers enables them to perform their duties with lots of motivation and inspiration. For example, 42A - The Human Resources (HR) Sergeant supervises, performs personnel and administrative functions in support of company, battery, and troop; detachments at division, corps, and echelons above corps must master their skill level in an effort to be a subject matter expert in their profession. The functions of Human Resource support four fundamental competencies: Man the Force (ex. Strength reporting), Provide HR Services (ex. Postal operations), Coordinate Personnel Support (ex. Morale, welfare, and Recreation), and Conduct HR Planning and Operations (ex. Planning and operations) in which a HR personnel must accomplish to support the mission. As a result, a professional Soldier should meet very high standards of a profession, for example character, competence, expertise and morality to fulfil their HR role. These standards are attained through rigorous training, development, and educating the Soldiers on how to serve the nation and the constitution as professionals. After nine years of war, which erupted from 9/11 we assess the attributes
“To conquer frustration, one must remain intensely focused on the outcome, not the obstacles.” I still remember this quote from Within I Rise by T.F. Hodge because this specific quote has helped me through my long and winding journey toward the black-belt. It started with my friend in fifth grade showing me what he learned in karate class the day before, and me asking my mother if I could join. My brother and I went to our first class and I instantly fell in love with the sparring, grappling, fighting combinations, self-defense, and of course, learning to use nunchucks. It was not long before I had my eye on the black-belt, but there were many obstacles ahead. Less than one percent of all students at my karate school end up getting to
...d me with our staff and Soldiers we have been given the opportunity to lead. The time and effort spent will be well worth it. Possessing a shared understanding of the operational environment will aid in our planning process when conducting operations throughout our theater of operation. In every operation we execute we know that we will accept prudent risks, identification and mitigation of those risks will determine our ability to accomplish our mission. Incorporating the principles of mission command by building cohesive teams through mutual trust, fostering an environment of shared understanding, and accepting prudent risk will make me an effective adviser to the commander, aid the staff during the operations process, and provide an example for Soldiers to emulate. My involvement in all aspects of mission command is critical to the success of our organization.
It takes little character to point a gun and pull a trigger, but it takes mountains of courage to accept a challenge in which you are already defeated. Nothing to do but reverse fate, overturn the thoughts and predictions which stand looking down with a grin upon its face. This feat may be impossible, but not totally forsaken, for courage prevails over cowardice. Courage, bravery, selflessness, all attributes necessary for winners to possess.
Sun Tzu was, weather a made up ghost or a real individual, was a truly wise man. He not only was able to win battles with these tactics, but was able to create teachings that can be applies to just about anything. Sometimes there are more battles than just war, sometimes there is the battles within us, or just in our everyday lives. Jobs, school, family, friends, anything can be the enemy we are fighting in this battles. Through Sun Tzu’s teaching we can become victorious and win our obstacles. Not everything relays on our physical strengths but rather the mental strengths. We too have to think like Sun Tzu in order to obtain success. Like said before, sometimes our strongest muscle isn’t our outer body, but our brain.
If you search Amazon Movies & TV for kung fu, it returns over 5000 hits. Every kid in America knows that kung fu is a Chinese martial art. Even though kung fu is almost always associated with China, it’s historical significance in ancient and modern Chinese life is underappreciated and not given the analysis it deserves. If you ask someone to name the great inventions and accomplishments of ancient China, he or she will probably mention the Great Wall, the compass, fireworks, and paper. And yet kung fu is one the original great inventions of China, one that embodies fundamental elements of Chinese culture. In fact, it has probably, more than any other Chinese creation, influenced and even helped sustain the Chinese cultural identity.
Robert Clouse remembers his first meeting with Bruce Lee very vividly. Robert recalls that: “The first time he meet you, you’d expect him to shake hands but instead he’d step back and flick out his foot so fast you could feel the air move right at the tip of your nose. Then he’d take your hand and place it on his stomach. It was kind of his calling card.”
Individuals that choose to join Martial Arts can help relieve stress while at the same time help other individuals choose their actions and life choices cautiously. Martial Arts can help any type of individuals hopefully only good but bad as well in critical situations that unfortunately happens at uncalled wrong or right times. For instance, many individuals join martial arts due to bullying or wanting to learn how to defend and attack against enemies for their own desire or even to learn how to find balance in their lives. There are many types of individuals that want to join Martial Arts because of movies based off actors that end up being the winner of a fight. Others go for winning the female hero’s heart as if something great had just occurred unexpectedly at a staged time and place thanks to the help of Martial Arts. These as well as movies where the individuals that seek vengeance and revenge by Martial Arts or critical injury just to put off what they may think are right at the moment in time. More or less individuals join Ma...
He was talking about dominantly expressing ones self through martial arts by letting go of rigid styles or patterns you’ve learned, and freely adapt in combat so as to fluidly move with your opponent, as in a dance, then to “crash” into your opponent in victory. What Bruce Lee described was a state of total awareness of one’s environment so as to continuously be able to entrain one’s self to it.
