Did you know that the Los Angeles Dodgers used to be the Brooklyn Dodgers? Although there are a lot of teams in the MLB, I think the Dodgers are the best. There are maybe better teams but the Dodgers are the most coolest, best team that you’ll ever find. There are two divisions, the National League, and American League. At the end of each season, the best players from each league go into the All-Stars or the National league team or the American league team and both teams play against each other. Although, the National and American leagues don’t matter to the world series, because the world series is the best team of all. The Dodgers are in the National League and have players who go to the All-Stars. The reasons being is because the Dodgers have Clayton Kershaw who is one of the best pitchers (if you haven't heard of him) so they're good at defense, they also have Yasiel Puig, and Joc Pederson who are good hitters which you need for runs, and there games are easy to get to and if you come with a big group you can get free food! …show more content…
Have you ever heard of the saying by Bear Bryant, “Offence sells you tickets, but defense wins championships.” That saying actually meant something, it meant that defense is a game winning thing and offence, sure, but no so much. For example, if your team doesn’t care about defense then there's a ninety nine percent chance you're gonna lose because of other people just hitting home runs after home runs and never will you be able to bat. So, they have a good pitcher, Clayton Kershaw, so you can strike people out and probably win a game with
In 1979, the Los Angeles Dodgers were on a mission to find a new type of baseball player. Due to a conflict which developed as a result of the construction of the new Dodger stadium, Dodger management was having a difficult time marketing to the ever growing Mexican population in Los Angeles. In an attempt to start a baseball following within the Latino community, Dodger scouts were sent to Mexico to find a player who could garner the attention of Mexican Americans in southern California.
Book Report on Baseball: A History of America's Game by Benjamin G. Rader In "Baseball: A History of America's Game", the Author Benjamin G. Rader discusses the history of baseball and how it developed to present day. Rader explains how baseball started as a simple game consisting of no rules besides the players using a stick to hit a ball and its constant evolution to what the game is today. He also displays several issues which America's favorite sport has had while developing into the complex sport it is today. Although baseball has had several trials and tribulations throughout its history, it still remains America's favorite pastime.
Berry College softball had a tremendous season in the spring of 2011. They recorded a 20 and 11 season, which is more than a 50 percent win-lose ratio, (Berry Athletics). Although this is a winning season, the team and the coaches expect improvements next season. The one area of improvement that could benefit the team is full defense. Full defense refers to the infield, outfield, and most importantly, the pitchers. Among the defense in the 2011 season, they committed 59 errors. Their opponents committed 73. Even though Berry had 14 fewer errors than their opponents, this can easily be reduced with extra defensive practice. It is critical to make the least amount of errors as possible. In addition to errors, ERA's are critical. ERA's are earned runs allowed. This average determines how effective pitchers are. For individuals who are not familiar with softball or baseball terms, there are two types of runs scored; runs that the opposing team have earned by base hits, and runs that are unearned by errors and walks. Last year, the two pitchers combined for a 2.97 ERA. This simply means that the pitchers on average allowed 2 to 3 runs a game. The individual leading pitcher ERA last season in the GSAC, (Great South Atlantic Conference), was 1.92, (www.greatsouth.org). Berry’s pitching staff allowed one additional run each game when compared to the leader of the GSAC. If we can minimize runs scored and commit fewer errors, we should be able to improve and win more games.
Since 2005 the Philadelphia Eagles have saved 3 million dollars because of the environmental work they have done and 100 percent of their energy comes from reusable sources. ("Smarter Business: Greening the Games") To start off, most NFL teams have charities and donate to charities, especially the Philadelphia Eagles. Also, they help out with the environment. Teams have a special way to pick players around the league and in the draft for their team. To add to that, NFL teams and especially the Eagles keep a close eye on the player's health and how to keep them healthy. I want to start an NFL team and have the franchise based on the Philadelphia Eagles. There are many cities in the U.S. that are suitable for teams and there are a lot of things
Hank Aaron was a famous baseball player who was respectful to his teammates and his fans. His nickname was “Hammerin’ Hank”. At one time he led the league in the most home runs. He was born in a poor family and then grew up to be a great professional baseball player. He became one of the most admired baseball players in Major League history.
Baseball statistics are meant to be a representation of a player’s talent. Since baseball’s inception around the mid-19th century, statistics have been used to interpret the talent level of any given player, however, the statistics that have been traditionally used to define talent are often times misleading. At a fundamental level, baseball, like any game, is about winning. To win games, teams have to score runs; to score runs, players have to get on base any way they can. All the while, the pitcher and the defense are supposed to prevent runs from scoring. As simplistic as this view sounds, the statistics being used to evaluate individual players were extremely flawed. In an attempt to develop more specific, objective forms of statistical analysis, the idea of Sabermetrics was born. Bill James, a man who never played or coached professional baseball, is often credited as a pioneer in the field and for coining the name as homage to the Society of American Baseball Research, or SABR. Eventually, the use of Sabermetrics became widespread in the Major Leagues, the first team being the Oakland Athletics, as depicted in Moneyball. Bill James and other baseball statisticians have developed various methods of evaluating a player performance that allow for a more objective view of the game, broadly defined as Sabermetrics.
Many people see the Atlanta Braves in different lights, by asking diverse people about them, you will get some vastly dissimilar answers. If you ask any young person who the Atlanta Braves are, you will most likely hear something like this: The best overall baseball team since I’ve been alive. But if you ask an older wiser person who the Atlanta Braves are, here’s the answer you’ll probably get: A baseball team that has come back incredibly from they’re not so grand past, a great story of a worst to first baseball team. However if you go to an informed person, someone who knows all about the Atlanta Braves and ask them the same question, I’m sure you’ll get an answer like this: The Atlanta Braves are a team with rich history, great victories, and superb leadership that has allowed them to capture 12 consecutive division titles.
The signing of Alex Rodriguez proved that Latin American athletes deserved to sign big money contracts just like the other players. Teams are taking are taking advantage of the abundance of talent in Latin America. All major League teams are active in the Dominican Republic. The Dodgers, the first team to move into the Latin American market, scout the area’s talent closely. About one hundred and four of the two hundred and thirty-seven minor-leaguers they had under contract at the start of the year were from that region.
n 1919 the Chicago Black Sox Scandal was a result of the owner Charles Comiskey not paying the baseball players what they were actually worth. The Black Sox felt under appreciated due to how conniving the owner was. He included a baseball reserve clause which stated that any player who refused to accept a contract “from the Black Sox” was prohibited from playing on any other professional baseball team. This involuntarily secured a signature from the baseball players if not they would have to deal with the repercussions that follow, meaning no other baseball career.
One of the most iconic names in baseball is the team name “New York Yankees”, and along with it have come some equally as famous players. The Yankees have had so much talent come through their stadium, names including Babe Ruth, Yogi Berra and Mickie Mantle to name a few. Though there are several arguments about who the greatest players of the game are it is no question who the top ten are from the New York team. Based on up to date career statistics these players have a ninety year span of talent between them. These players may not have top score in all parts of the game but they have all set certain records that either have yet to be broken or held for a longer time than most students have been alive.
Mental preparedness separates the average baseball players from the elite ones. A dedicated baseball player shows up ready to play and succeed in whatever situation may arise. Baseball is a mental game, and concentration is key to keeping a player mentally prepared. Baseball is both a fast and slow sport, for it is slow between pitches, but very intense during them. During pitches, it is a players time to regroup himself and think of all the situations that could arise during the next pitch. During the play, everything happens fast, and there is no time to think about what to do, it is all instinct, so the ability to avoid mental errors is crucial. Mental mistakes often lead to physical mistakes, which is when everything goes sour. Mental confidence plays such a critical role in how a person physically plays. When a player is mentally down on himself, it is extremely hard to raise his confidence back up, and most of the time he cannot. A determined baseball player’s mind is totally different, an error is a learning experience,
The one constant through all the years has been baseball. America has rolled by like an army of steamrollers. It's been erased like a blackboard, rebuilt, and erased again. But baseball has marked the time. This field, this game, is a part of our past. It reminds us of all that once was good, and what could be again

Finally, baseball fans are insanely loyal to the team of their choice. Should the home team's players lose eight in a row, their fans may begin to call them "bums." They may even suggest that the slumping cleanup hitter be sent to the minors or the manager fired. However, such reactions only hide their broken hearts. They still check the sports pages and tune in to get the score. Furthermore, this intense loyalty can make fans dangerous, for anyone who dares to say to a loyal fan that some other team has sharper fielding or a better attitude could risk permanent, physical harm.
