Pets, The Healthy Choice
Imagine, you’re sitting on your couch tired from a long, stressful day at work. You look up only to find your dog or cat staring at you with their huge, glimmering eyes and you instantly feel better. Many people have experienced this feeling at least once in their lifetime. Having a pet in the home has many beneficial components, some you may not have even known about. Pet ownership comes with a lot of responsibility, but many have found it to be rewarding. The brochure, used to inform people of the benefits of pet ownership, has a good range of color, display, credibility, logic and appeal to emotion.

The main tones throughout the brochure are happiness, humor, and empathy. I included the picture of the girls running with the dog to show that pets can create a sense of joy when interacted with. Also, the use of exclamation points throughout the brochure shows that getting a pet is encouraged. I wanted to include a picture that added a humorous tone to the brochure, so I thought that the cat laying on its owner’s stomach did just that. Putting this picture shows the reader that a cat can be loving and give them a sense that they could be protected by a pet, as the baby is being “protected” by the cat. The last picture that I included was a little boy hugging a dog. This gives us a sense of empathy and it might persuade parents to get a pet seeing how bonded the dog and the little boy are. In the main section of the brochure, I listed some statistics that came from doctors. For example, “97% [of doctors] reported that they believe that there [are] health benefits that result from owning a pet” (Human Animal Bond Research Initiative). The fact that doctors are saying this and not random people will make people believe it more. Doctors tend to be highly educated, so many people believe they know what they are talking about. Also the statistic, “two thirds of U.S. households now own at least one pet” shows us that many people already own pets and believe they are a part of the family which might persuade other people to get one as well (“Can Pets Help Keep You
