Free of any charges or statements of infraction on her criminal record, Taylor was introduced with a clean slate. Her parents made the decision to enroll her in a Christian school within the city in attempt to introduce her to new social groups who held the same beliefs and values as her family. Reluctant at first, and denying any offer of help, Taylor slowly began to build back the relationship with her parents. The school introduced many new opportunities to Taylor; she was encouraged to interact with new groups, participate in at least one extracurricular activity, and maintain at least a 60% grade average. With this push for improvement, Taylor grew increasingly aware of who she desired to be and underwent another identity change due to her new environment and social groups she was now interacting with. The opportunities presented from this institution allowed Taylor to experiment with hobbies and extracurricular activates as she joined the cast for the musical, began playing softball, joined the student union, and volunteered within a hospital. The manifest function of this institution is to provide an education however the school did much more for Taylor; it provided her the resources she needed to excel in areas she never had before, her new friends accepted her despite her past, and she was able to rekindle distant relationships made within her

To most, it’s very easy to imagine how it would feel to grow up without much of anything in life. Hell...I can tell you first hand what it feels like to not have a decent pair of shoes or pants without holes in them, or old “hand-me-down” toys while most of the kids you know have “state-of-the-art” toys. To many children in this kind of situation, it seems like a very bleak world to live in. No child should ever have to experience this kind of life. However, due to ignorant parents and an even more jacked-up government, there are many children that will always be in this predicament.
The social construction of gender leads to the creation and sustainment of sex roles that we have been taught to adhere to since birth that results to social doings through the creation of gender – who we talk, how we dress and who we associate with. Men are taught to masculine qualities like not crying and women are taught to do feminine characteristics like playing with dolls and wearing dresses. A prime example of this is in the article written my Diane Reay, that analyzes the construction female behavior, where those who identified as “girlies” care about their appearance and we regarded to as stupid by their classmates. Those who challenged the feminine norms, where referred to as “spice girls” and labeled as bitches or little cows by their teachers because they where thought to be negative influences to the rest of the class. Reay states that, “boys maintain the hierarchy of social superiority of masculinity by devaluing the female world,” (Reay, 2014, pg. 257) by esteeming males over females, it creates gendered expressions that depict once gender more promising that the other in society, where self-declared tomboy Jodie stated that, “Girls can be good, bad or- best of all – they can be boys,” (Reay, 2014, pg. 257) which solidifies the social norm of males being better than
Sociologists analyze everything in society in their own unique way. Sociologists such as August Comte, Herbert Spencer, and Emile Durkheim look at social phenomena from many different perspectives and at different levels. However, they do all share the fact they all contributed something to sociology. August Comte is credited with coining the term sociology. Emile Durkheim had a lot to do with the term sociology, and he was a major part of structural functionalism. Also Herbert Spencer was one of the major figures in the intellectual life of the Victorian era. When talking about sociology, there is a micro level analysis of small social patterns and a macro level of analysis of large social patterns. There are three primary theoretical perspectives: the symbolic interactionist perspective, the functionalist perspective, and the conflict perspective. Symbolic interactionism is the use of symbols; face to face interactions and is a micro of level analysis. Functionalism and conflict theory are macro level of analysis. Functionalism is a relationship between the parts of society and how aspects of society are functional. Conflict theory is a competition for scarce resources; how the elite control the poor and weak.
Waiting for them to get back into place, she signaled another start with a blow of her whistle as her eyes caught a football flying through the air over on the football field as she wondered if Drew had thrown it. She, likely just like any other girl in the large school, lusted after his tall, handsome athletic body. It was so cliche though... he was dating the cheerleading captain. She rolled her eyes a bit. The 'classic' high school romantic relationship. It was like out of a damn
