The worst essay from this semester is Magical Dinners by Chang-rae Lee. Why even have this atrocity on the syllabus? Magical Dinners is very blandly written (almost as bland as the food his family makes). This was made obvious by the fact that nobody in our class was into it and there was silence during the whole discussion instead of lots of participation. Furthermore, the only rhetoric I could find Lee even attempting to use was code grooming, which was highly unsuccessful because the meals that his mom made did not sound good and were unable to grab my attention or appetite. This is illustrated when Lee writes “She cooks an egg for me each morning without fail. I might also have with it fried Spam or cereal or a slice of American cheese,
Racial relations vary across culture and time, even after the decision that deemed anti-miscegenation laws unconstitutional, it took more time for everyone to come to the same agreement. Not to mention, the conditions that black people lived under due to the negative connotations that the term “black” held – evil, dirty, and impure. Towards the end of the 1960’s, the American industry utilized many different tactics to portray the lack of hope, income inequality, segregation, and change that was an attempt to make a difference during this time. The film, Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner (1967) was a direct effort to view the polarity of race in the 1960’s through the lens of

The shops have a pricing strategy that ensures that people with different purchasing power can find the food product that they can afford. The price of different products will range from $4 to $40. This means that the cheapest food item in Platinum pizza shop is $4 and the most expensive food item is $40. In the documentary Reel Injun by Neil Diamond it talks about how Native Americans are discriminated against in modern and early America. It shows how discrimination affects the natives in multiple ways, some feel as if they are unwanted on America and don’t exist. Also in the poem In Response to Executive Order 9066: All Americans of Japanese Descent Must Report to Relocation Centers by Dwight Okita and the letters and reports regarding Japanese internment by Various authors shows how the Japanese were discriminated against for their heritage and background. Also, how that discrimination separated families and made the Japanese feel as if they were unwanted in America. Finally in the book Breakfast at Sally’s by Richard LeMieux it tells a true
We live in a country that was established by the European immigrants in the 18th century. In that time period they were not seen as immigrants but as pioneers who established the United States. Now in the present, the word immigrant has a negative connotation and are not welcomed in the United States. In the book, The Short Sweet Dream of Eduardo Gutierrez, by Jimmy Breslin, we follow a young Mexican immigrant on his journey to the United States and see what he had to face with American society and labor. We travel with him from a small village named San Matίas in Mexico until his death in Williamsburg, New York. Not only did he suffer a brutal death, falling into cement, but also had to face discrimination in his neighborhood, by other Hispanic communities, and injustices at work. Immigrants do not only face exploitation in New York, but it has also been demonstrated that in the Midwest, Mexican immigrants face similar discrimination and labor abuse in the meat packing industry.

Golden Corral is a very popular all you can eat buffet and one of my personal favorites. With the cost of an all you can eat buffet at $11.99, People often flock to this popular hot spot to take advantage of their variety of entrees, fresh made rolls and decadent deserts. However, Golden Corral like all buffets work on the concept of diminishing marginal value, which states that less satisfaction is gained by consumption of an additional unit. An article called The Economics of All You Can Eat Buffets by Mathew Waller states that buffets make their money by charging a price well above what the average consumer consumes based on the principle that the customer will be at a point of zero marginal utility before they have consumed where

It involves collection of decisions and different rules and policies that tend to define the results that are generated in the form of better business performance. To determine how many customers we were willing to see walk away based on the wait time, strategic planning was utilized with the expectation of losing 17 to 20 customers. We changed the distribution of tables by reducing the tables of fours and increased the tables of twos. The results of this redistribution proved to be a good decision, because in the beginning the tables for four showed the highest utilization at 99.56 percent and 37 of the groups of four walked out and left the restaurant without being served. After we made our decisions, the utilization of tables for four changed to 96.26 percent and the tables for two changed to 89.11 percent. This was the optimum solution as the waiting time was reduced considerably and we made a reasonable profit, and utilization of all the servers was not very high. The sales loss was reduced to $390.
Is it right to blame society when the stronghold of trust in the American Dream diminishes or dies? The critical point in Death of a Salesman was the mission for this dream. Miller depicts this in his character Willy Loman and his deceived mission of this dream. Arthur Miller's outline of the American Dream in Death of a Salesman was created in post bellum America. Around then, the thinking was more than essentially a declaration; it was a lifestyle. In attempts to further the onlooker's understanding of the story, one must portray the American Dream. After World War II, the United States thrived and flourished monetarily. The possibility of achievement was the establishment of the American Dream. The possibility of a free market framework was reborn and by living in a capitalistic free market, everyone in America had an open door to get rich and be productive. To put it fundamentally, the American Dream was portrayed as "an American flawless of a playful and powerful life which all may want: the American Dream addresses a reaffirmation of standard American hope. Arthur Miller makes the spectator grasp the dream is a lie, in light of the way that it is not for everybody. In the play, Death of a Salesman, Willy Loman is an impeccable outline of somebody who is attempting to search for this dream. “Death” in the title insinuates Willy's authentic destruction. The play is tormented with conspiring and refusal of reality and self-image, in which don't permit Willy Loman to accomplish independent satisfaction. Willy Loman's life is far from merry and successful.
