The Brazosport College Career Fair has definitely inspired me to pursue a career in mechanical engineering. Before I attended this Career Fair I already had my mindset on pursuing an engineering degree, but this learning experience has closed the deal. Additionally, walking into the gymnasium that was filled with career booth’s sparked my curiosity. The first booth I walked to was, Brazosports Robotics booth. The first thing I saw being presented by the volunteers that we’re working the booth was a fascinating contraption the students of Brazosport created which was exceptionally put together, and well designed. The robotic machine left me in such fascination and awe. This experience with the robotics booth contributed majorly to the reasoning of my likeness towards the mechanical field since robtics and mechanical engineering are very similar. …show more content…
After I introduced myself to the volunteer and told him my future goals in becoming a mechanical engineer, he showed me some pictures of equipment and machines and tools that he sees on a daily basis. These pictures consisted of strain gages, acceleration and torque measuring devices, and different types of engines. A lot of the tools and engines he was showing me we’re very similar to the things my brother who is a mechanical engineer, showed me at his workplace. All of these different devices, tools, and machines seem interesting to me. Seeing these pictures made me want to take every machine apart that he showed me and see how all the pieces work, and try to put the machine back together. The 4+4 program at Hofstra caught my interest after I researched its medical school, the Donald and Barbara Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell. Northwell comprises some of the most renowned hospitals in the New York area, from the Long Island Jewish Medical Center to Lenox Hill Hospital. Aside from being partnered with such a prestigious institution, the Zucker School of Medicine’s progressive, “case based” curriculum is what intrigued me the most. Few medical schools offer to train its students for the 21st century, and this hands on approach seems like the best method to expose students from our generation to the ever changing field of healthcare. From working in groups to solve weekly cases to using real world patient cases to explain concepts, I feel as if the Zucker School of Medicine offers an optimal experience for its students to succeed in their fields.

I am Xzavia Hall, I live Prospect Park NJ, but I currently live on campus at Ramapo College. I was born in a city in New Jersey named Paterson, where I spent most of my child hood. I moved out of Paterson when I entered the sixth grade. I turned out to be one of the better inner city kids who was lead on the right path. I paid attention in class and tried my best to stay out of trouble although troubles always seem to find a way to me. Now I am a sophomore and Political Science major at Ramapo College. I aspire to be a successful politician one day and I will be attending law school after I graduate from Ramapo. Since I was a child I had a deep love for politics, if it was political I had to read it or watch it, especially Presidential debates.
As an ambitious individual, I have tried my best to be a part of activities that amplify my success in the future. In my junior year of high school, I had the incredible opportunity to join a rookie FIRST Robotics team called Wildcat Robotics. FIRST Robotics is an organization founded by Dean Kamen and Woodie Flowers that was created "For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology", hence the reason it is called FIRST. I knew joining the team would be an excellent way for me to decide if the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) field was the right path. Although, I've learned more than just science and technology from FIRST Robotics, I've learned the importance of keeping an open outlook.

Looming over me in highschool was a quest, a quest for identity, a quest for meaning -- who was I, what do I want to become? These questions towered over me on the night before my first day of school and many nights after that, leaving me searching for a trail to blaze. The searching paid off when I entered the room for the first time; I was astounded by the environment, the air hummed with energy, the conference of others in the room knocked at my eardrums, my mind animated by the notion that I had found my calling. I’ve always been fascinated by Robotics and automation. Robotics incorporates 3 of my favorite disciplines of engineering; Electronic engineering, Mechanical Engineering, and Computer Science. Though I have not worked on a Robotics task on the professional level, I have completed robotic project. I earned a Robotics Specialization Certificate from the University of Pennsylvania thru Coursera 2016. I’ve also done tons of self-studies on the subject. Autonomous vehicles are a big interest of mine. I find it fascinating that automobiles will soon be unmanned on our roadways.
Remembering how each task was created piece by piece allowed me to, line by line, memorize the works of history's greatest playwrights. I was able to join MEChA and help lead the Latino community as co-president, arranging events with our two hundred members. My organizational skills were further utilized as the commissioner of elections. Legos also taught me to help others and to ask for their help. I realized that with the creativity another person at my disposal, we could build things we had never even dreamed of on our own. During my senior year of High School I was introduced to crew. I was enthralled by the rhythmic grace of the sport. My dreams soon had me breathing the early morning air nearly flying over the surface of the water. This dream seemed destined to die unfulfilled because I grew up in a part of the country where "crew" refers to the roadside construction teams, but before the year was out I had convinced one of the Olympic coaches to take me under his wing. This interest is one I would like to develop further. As the years went by, my Lego blocks made way for the blocks of my future. But just like my experiences with Legos, I continue to choose individual blocks from chaos, each one bringing me closer to the life I dream of. The spires lead up to a diploma, the drawbridge leads to a family, and the buttresses support my lofty
