In the two passages it talks about being patent and knowing that the time you are waiting for will come. Being patent means to wait either excitedly or even scared because or never know wither it will be good or bad, happy or sad.
In the passage "Boy's Life" it is in the year 1964 when Cory Mackenson is waiting for summer vacation and he can’t control his excitement. As soon as the bell rang Cory was just about to walk out the class room when Mrs. Neville stopped him and told him to step to her desk. When Cory stepped to her desk he had no idea what his teacher wanted. Mrs. Neville then said "I was wondering if you were going to enter the contest this year".
Cory is confused about what contest Mrs. Neville is talking about. Then she tells
him how the Arts Council sponsor it every August. When they finish talking Cory and Mrs. Neville say goodbye to each other and Cory runs out the room. In the fable "Emancipation: A Life fable" it talks ab out any animal that was born in a cage. One day the animal sees more light then it is use to, so the animal walks over to it and figures out it is actually a door left open. The animals ran back to its corner but not to sleep to hide. It makes a hard decision and decides to make a run for it. The animal makes a run for it and escapes to find out it was now in the wild. The animal as to grow stronger and learn how to hunt and do all the stuff animals do in the wild. What the animal did was very brave to the animal it was probably a life or death situation so the animal chose quickly and got free.
The author turn to books in order to attract girl. After realizing at thirteen year old that he did not have the standard of the type of boys girls was seduced by. Richler did not let his lack of self-esteem and confidence depress him instead he used the strength of reading he had to develop a character to draw attention to himself. Sandy Wilson, the author of Daddy’s Apprentice: incest, corruption, and betrayal: a survivor’s story, was the victim of not only sexual abuse but physical and emotional abuse as well, in addition to being a product of incest. Sandy Wilson’s story began when she was about six years old when her birth father returns home from incarceration, and spans into her late teens. Her father returning home from prison was her first time meeting him, as she was wondered what he looked like after hearing that he would be released (Wilson, 2000, p. 8). Not only was her relationship with her father non-existent, her relationship with her birth mother was as well since she was for most of her young life, cared for by her grandmother and grandfather. When she was told that her birth mother coming to visit she says, “…I wish my mother wouldn’t visit. I never know what to call her so I don’t all her anything. Not her name, Kristen. Not mother. Not anything (Wilson, 2000, p. 4).” This quote essentially demonstrated the relationship between Sandy and her mother as one that is nonexistent even though Sandy recognizes Kristen as her birth mother.
Setting expatiates the theme of loss of innocence. For example, the four major characters in this story are sixteen and seventeen years old, which is the age when teenagers prepare to end their childhood and become adults. Also, the Devon school, where the story takes place, is a place where boys make the transition to full adulthood, and so this setting shows more clearly the boys' own growth. Bricklayer’s Boy is a story about a father and son and their working lives. The Narrator, or son, grew up in a blue-collared household, with a father that was a bricklayer. By his early 20’s, his father already had a wife, a career, two sons and a house. His father was the son of an immigrant, and believed in working hard so that his sons could get white-collared jobs and have an easier life. The narrator had other ideas though, and decided to become a newspaper reporter. His father didn’t understand this decision because he expected him to make as much money as possible. When the narrator was offered his first job at a daily paper in Columbus, Ohio, his father said, “Why can’t you get a good job that pays something, like in advertising in the city, and write on the side?” “Advertising is lying,” the narrator replied, “ I wanna tell the truth.” His dad continued to push advertising in the weeks before he moved, until one night he came home with tape and bubble wrap and helped him pack to move.
Many people think that reading more can help them to think and develop before writing something. Others might think that they don’t need to read and or write that it can really help them to brainstorm things a lot quicker and to develop their own ideas immediately (right away). The author’s purpose of Stephen King’s essay, Reading to Write, is to understand the concepts, strategies and understandings of how to always read first and then start something. The importance of this essay is to understand and comprehend our reading and writing skills by brainstorming our ideas and thoughts a lot quicker. In other words, we must always try to read first before we can brainstorm some ideas and to think before we write something. There are many reasons why I chose Stephen King’s essay, Reading to Write, by many ways that reading can help you to comprehend, writing, can help you to evaluate and summarize things after reading a passage, if you read, it can help you to write things better and as you read, it can help you to think and evaluate of what to write about.
Daniel Meier uses “One Man’s Kids” to demonstrate how he, inspired by benefits that could not be spent or calculated, surpassed the stereotypical presumptions of others to become a first grade teacher. Meier begins by introducing readers to his life in the classroom: injuries, fighting, questions, and an endless need for multitasking. Despite the chaos surrounding him, Meier argues his work is not “traditionally male”(1). To him, there is no end goal, no final achievement, no rights to be earned. He states, “My energy is spent in encouraging, supporting, consoling, and praising my children” (Meier 1). As a responder to the emotional distress of a room full of six year olds, he finds himself unable to submit to stereotypical bluntness and

The book “This Boy’s Life” by Tobias Wolff is a memoir written about the author’s childhood memories and experiences. The author shows many different characters within the book. Many of them are just minor character that does not affect the author much in his life choices and thoughts throughout his growth. But there are some that acts as the protagonist and some the antagonist. One of them is Dwight, the protagonist’s or Jack’s stepfather. This character seems to be one of the characters that inhibit Jack’s choices and decisions. This character plays a huge role in Jack’s life as it leaves a huge scar in his memory. The author here spends the majority of time in this character in the memoir to show the readers the relationship between Jack and Dwight.
My groups reading assignment was "Bud Not Buddy" by Christopher Paul Curtis. I notice working in a group is very effective. Reading in a group gives students a sense of understanding and improvement of their socialization skills, it makes it simple compare to reading individually. I would implement literacy circle with my future class because it provides a social interaction with the students. The biggest strengths would be a sense of understanding. Students can interpret the book differently.
The nonfiction book I read was titled Beautiful Child and was written by Torey Hayden. Beautiful Child follows the life of a special education teacher who is new to a school is met with a challenging class consisting of five children, all with very different needs. The class consists of a child who has tourette’s syndrome (Jesse), a child who we later find out has dyslexia (Billy), two twins who have fetal alcohol syndrome (Shane and Zane), and a young girl who is selectively mute (Venus.) Although through the story we see each child grow and progress, Venus is the main character and we see her open up to Torey through books and most important She-Ra comics. As Venus’ story unfolds, so do the horrendous details of her family that include a past of drug abuse and prostitution. The quietness of Venus that left many confused, begins to make
Richard Wright was a novelist who wrote about being black in American. He used his writings as a form of advertisement to civilize communism. Being that he was born into slavery he experienced oppression since birth. His first published novel was Uncle Tom’s Children and the book consisted of different short stories of racial oppression in the South such as lynching and the KKK. One of his most defining novels is Black Boy as he wrote about the cultural, political, racial, religion, and social issues of the late 19th century.
I have chosen to review the film Boyhood written by Richard Linklater that took twelve years to film. In the movie Boyhood, it illustrates the life of a boy named Mason Jr. through the many stages of his childhood to adolescence to becoming an adult. The movie follows Mason Jr.’s life through his years of kindergarten, middle school, high school, and to college. Through these milestones in his life encounters society with socialization, culture and norms that are exhibited through his family, friends, and others. With factors of social classes, and gender that influence Mason Jr. as he grows and fits into the society that is formed. New Boy is a short film that envelops the viewer into a third person character and leads viewers to experience how it feels to be an outsider “The New Boy”, the audience experiences this feeling through the Protagonist 's mind in this case “Joseph.” This short film not only focuses on the idea of bullying but also the idea of being an outsider.The positioning of the title “New Boy” on the left-hand side of the frame indicates that the new boy will be powerless.
...is also worth noticing that Black Boy is written in retrospective and thus offers the point of view of grown-up Richard Wright and reflects his thoughts on the events of his life twenty years after they actually took place.
About a boy is a novel which follows the lives of two people: Marcus and Will. Marcus is a strange kid who struggles with growing up, he is in need for acceptance outside of his own family, he is searching for his own identity, he is a victim of constant bullying and is suffering with his lack of parental care. Will is the complete opposite to Marcus. He is a 36 year old who is in his own extended childhood, he is searching for his identity not wanting to lose his youth, he ‘prides himself on his cool’ and simply can’t find a way to grow up. It is when these two opposing characters meet that they soon act as catalysts for each other. From their dependence on others they find independence for themselves within one another.
