As a child, two of my sisters and I would gather at a television and we would watch shows together. My sister and I favorited loved watching each show, and to this day, we still watch the same shows, or some that are similar. There are a variety of shows that grab a large audience, and continue over each episode, because they are very interesting. What makes a show interesting is when there is some drama, romance, and when the story continues over each episode. Those qualities make people want to know what the conclusion is of a storyline. Since the audience wants to find out what happens in the end, qualities like drama, romance, and continuing storylines, are attention grabbers, and they are what makes television shows great.

The show Open Heart, a show about a girl who goes through obstacles and discovers mysterious clues to find her father and why he disappeared. As the last two episodes of the show went on, a young girl developed Amnesia from falling off a horse. The very last episode is when she gets her memory back. At the start of the books, Cammie and Zach disliked each other. However, soon their relationship becomes neutral, then they become friends. Finally, they start to love each other. I think that this is supposed to show, as I mentioned before, how love really is. It’s no secret that Zach and Cammie's love each other - it’s obvious to anyone who read this series. However, after seeing how long of a path these two characters travelled, you can see that there has to be some amount of symbolism in there. What I found was this: their relationship showed the ups and downs of love, but it also taught the readers that if love was true, it stayed strong.
As foolish as that comes across as, Gabler asserts that the viewers make as if the characters are their friends in in order to feel good about themselves and not overthink about their alienation (357). This is the ultimate relationship; the characters are always close by; there is no turmoil; and they are very amusing. Although there is no interaction, the viewer still is under the impression that the characters are their friends. This relationship is really comparable to social media because people may never truly chat with their “friends” but they are able to “interact” through a screen. A friend from a television show may appear to be like the best relationship, but the ones that occur between the onscreen characters is indeed better.
Steven Johnson wrote an article for the New York Times in which he argues that back in the days, television shows use to have a very simple plot which was easy to follow without too much attention. It was just an other way to sit back and relax. However, throughout the years, viewers grew tired of this situation and demanded more complex plot lines with multiple story lines that related to recent news topics. He takes the example of the television show “24”. “24” is known for being the first show which its plot occurs in “real-time”, it is also known for not censuring the violence of its topics. It is a drastic change from what Johnson states as an example “Starsky and Hutch” where basically each episodes was only a repetition of the last one. Johnson also believes that there is a misconception of the mass culture nowadays where people think the television viewer wants dumb shows which in response makes them dumber. Johnson does not agree, for him, television shows such as “24” are “nutritional”. He also states that sm...
After a more detailed examination of the stories, however, it becomes evident that each individual is striving to find love. Though love is a universal goal, each person's criteria for a meaningful, fulfilling and loving relationship varies. This is clearly demonstrated by the different situations in which the characters find themselves. The conventional, stereotypical, and almost cliché demonstration of love can be seen in stories A & D, where the characters simply "fall in love and get married".
Their family may struggle to get through some problems and some of their gender roles do not meet the traditional way, but they always make it work the best they can (p.115). They are not judgmental, have values, and everyone love each other (p.34). I love that the characters do not always get along and everything is not perfect. When I am a little older, I want to adopt a few children and this show expresses to me a different perspective and objection of life growing up in the foster system with parents that are different (p.35). I have not seen anything on this show that is not relatable to a common family or someone I do not
When describing the sitcom all that comes to mind is hope and the sense of change that the show

In one of the older shows Zoey 101, the main character Zoey lives with friends at this school. Throughout the show, she goes through relationships, and has a lot of friends. To begin with, romantic movies mold expectations of what love is really like. They portray that love is the only thing that matters. In the past, love was secondary. Relationships were arranged by parents because they wanted their children to join lands or kingdoms, and whether or not the couple actually loved each other was irrelevant. Today, parents have almost no say in who their children fall in love with. Romance movies over-emphasize love when it comes to “falling in love at first sight” and the idea that “true love conquers all”. I’m sure that almost everyone knows that real-life love doesn’t work like this, but that doesn’t mean that those illustrations of love that movies characterize doesn’t affect viewers’ hope for romance and true love in their own life. For example, after watching The Notebook, viewers might portray Noah’s l...

Tim Dirks, creator and writer of the website filmsite, defines romance in film as love stories that can progress as emotional, romantic, or affectionate involvement of the main protagonist (Dirk, Tim). In The Artist, the main story revolves around Valentin’s refusal to progess into the new film technological advancements, but the storyline is also is about a love story between Valentin and Peppy. In the scene, which Peppy is put into a dancing scene with Valentin, they make many retakes of that scene, but in the final take, it is seen that Valentin is looking at Peppy with affection, and also Peppy at him, but Valentin hesitates and leaves since he is a married man. This scene begins to show that there is a love story with an obstacle in this film. A romantic drama film is a sub-genre of romance, which usually has obstacles that prevent protagonist who have feelings for each other to be together (“Drama”).
