There are a lot of worldly things people desire to achieve. A great example of this is “Bound 2” by Kanye West. Kanye’s music represents the rap genre, rap has a lot of songs about love and how people act when in love. Love can make you a different person. As showed in his music, Kanye is a hard nosed person. He shows a soft side when it comes to love.
Kanye Omari West was born in Atlanta, Georgia, on June 8, 1977. He is currently 40 years old. West started out producing for local artists. He developed “chipmunk soul” which included sped up soul samples. He got his big break producing “This Can’t Be Life” for Jay Z. The name Kanye means “the one and only” in Swahili.
I found lyrical support for the song “Bound 2” by Kanye West. He shows that he is acting differently with this female. He writes “Okay, I don’t remember when we first met” (Bound 2). Showing that he used drugs or alcohol when he met this girl. He goes on to show he will change when he writes “But hey, admitting is the first step” These lyrics portray that love can make you a different person if Kanye is willing to change (Bound 2).

There are many other examples of how love makes you a different person.
In the song “Thinkin’ Bout’ You” by Frank Ocean. He say’s “A tornado flew around my room before you came, excuse the mess it made”that explains that his “room” or life is a mess and is embarrassed because he wants to look like a clean guy (Thinkn’ Bout’ You) . In Kendrick Lamar’s song “LOVE” he says “If i didn’t ride blade on curb, would you still (love me)” he is asking if I didn’t drive a car with large rims and low profile tires would you still love me (LOVE)? Another example comes from J. Cole, a line from the song “Power Trips” is “ Anonymous flowers sent, you know childish sh*t”tells us that he is acting like a coward and not acting like he has clout (Power Trips) . He is changing how he is because he acts because he is in
love. Given these points I do believe that love can make you a different person. Kanye, the most ignorant person I’ve seen, shows that he is willing to change for a girl. Frank Ocean talked about how he was a mass and had to clean up when he was in love. Kendrick explained that if he didn’t have nice things would someone love him. He has to change and get their attention. Finally J. Cole says he would send anonymous flowers when he is a big name and turns shy for a girl because he is in love.
Reality melted around me as I poured through album reviews and rankings, seeing the amount of praise and reverence his work holds, I was blown away. I watched interviews from artists I’d been a fan of for years, claiming that Kanye was their inspiration. I read analysis pinpointing how each of his albums opened up new sub genres in hip hop, how he completely changed the stigmatism of the art, allowing for new creative freedom, opening the doors for artists like Drake, Tyler the Creator and Chance the Rapper just to name a few. He had been right under the surface all along. He paved the way for my generation of artists to walk on, and I had been blissfully ignorant, skipping along his path.
The problem that laid in his way, was the social stigma at the time. In the early 90’s rap was dominated by the “gansta” rap scene. People like Tupac, Biggie and Dr. Dre ran the industry at that point and there was no room for Kanye and his pink polo. Kanye was seen as a producer first and foremost, since that’s what he was so good at and that’s all he had done up until that point. It wasn’t until the year 2000 that Kanye was brought onto Roc-A-Fella records with Jay-Z where his producing really started to shine. Helping produce Jay-Z’s 2001 album The Blueprint, the album was a huge success and lead to the revitalization of Jay-Z’s career. Kanye didn’t get a chance to make his own record until the following year (even though he had been working on it for almost 3 years now) when Roc-A-Fella finally gave him the go ahead. Kanye started his production of The College Dropout. It was also around this time that Kayne started a relationship with a girl named Alexis Phifer. Their relationship would be on and off again for the next few
Kanye met Kim in 2004 while Kim was married to another man. They both dated other people until they got together in 2012. Kanye waited over 8 years to date Kim. He wrote a line in one of his famous songs “Cold” saying “And I’ll admit, I had fallen in love with Kim / Around the same time she had fallen in love with him.” ("Kanye West (Ft. DJ Khaled) – Cold")
Teenagers might see the explicit sign with the cartoon-animated theme of the album cover and feel very intrigued, making them want to listen. Adults that have been previous Kanye fans might also want to listen, just for the fact that it is a Kanye West Album. Another audience group could be for people who are happy and love different styles of music. This second album is very bright and colorful, which goes hand in hand with happiness and fun. The audience may see the chain on the bear and immediately assume it is a hip-hop genre of music, aside from the fact that Kanye West is a rapper. So, people that are fans of hip hop would appeal to this album also.
He says in the song “Man I’m so self-conscious, that’s why you always see me with one of my watches,” showing that he took the route of obtaining material possessions as soon as he acquired money to try and show others his success (West). He furthers this point by stating “then I spent 400 bucks on this, just to be like, you ain’t up on this,” showing it wasn’t just one instance, but a constant reoccurrence of showing off his material possessions to constantly try and present himself to others as “successful(West).” Even though both songs describe the shortcuts of people trying to show others their success through material goods, they overlap by not promoting those actions.
First of all he calls the woman in the song, a bitch. It starts off with a skit and in this skit with the few lines it contains, the woman is completely disrespected because she does not provide the answer that was he wanted to hear. The script is “Yo let—let—let me ask you a question yo / Yo, would you kill for me? / Hmmm... yeah / What took you so long to answer motherfucker? / I don't know / The fuck wrong with you bitch?” he later on raps “And I admit, when the time is right, the wine is right / I treat you right, you talk slick, I beat you right / Just me and my bitch, me and my bitch.” Biggie says he beats his partner anytime she says something he does not like which promotes physical and emotional abuse to the people that listen to his music. People will think there is no problem with putting there hands on their partner cause Bigge does it. Biggie sends out the wrong type of message to people about how they should treat their partner in a
“Kanye Ran onto the stage saying, ‘I'm sorry, but Beyoncé had one of the best videos of all time!’” (Top 10 Outrageous Kanye West Moments), says Kanye West at the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards after Taylor Swift had just won “Best Female Video.” People that are like this have typically not always been this way. They were probably raised as a polite and respectful person before they were exposed to fame and fortune, and other “celebrities,” making them feel like they are the only people on the planet. Causing them to do things like that. Although, Kanye West is an amazing musician based on his 14 Grammy Awards and multiple albums going “Double-Platinum” (Manheim, James M., and Carol Brennan). He fell victim to fame and fortune, and turned into an arrogant and overconfident person making him more popular and praised among media. But looked down upon by everyday people. Kanye Omari West, born on June 8th, 1977, is a world famous rapper who, like all other celebrities, started out like a nice person who made nice music for nice families to listen to. West was a confident and competitive person even as a child, “He was determined even then to get out of his crib and be free, even if he split his head in the process—and he did. He has fought ever since to do exactly what he wanted to do—no matter what,” says Donda West, his mother in her book, Raising Kanye: Life Lessons from the Mother of a Hip-Hop Superstar. By the time West was ten, he was already creating his own raps, and according to the people around him, he was pretty good at it even at that young of an age. (Manheim, James M., and Carol Brennan) West was not too interested in school as he grew up, but he was able to get by because of his talent. If he dropped out of one ...
Kanye West’s Yeezus was released on June 18, 2013 as the artist’s sixth studio album. I use the term artist to describe West because this album proves that Kanye deserves to be regarded as one, and in the same realm of todays highest fine artists. Known for stylistic maximalism in his albums up until this point in time, West’s Yeezus is characterized by its “raw and minimalistic sound.” Mirroring the “spare, direct and throbbing” sound that makes up the minimalist tracks on Yeezus, West’s largest influences in the creation of the album were minimalist sculpture and architecture. In a similar artistic manor, the producing process of Yeezus was conducted through a series of critiques; identical to the process in which a piece of visual art is created.
"DAMN" contains fourteen songs, each with powerful messages. Kendrick Lamar uses his song LOYALTY, as a platform to discuss the “value and necessity of complete trust, faithfulness, and dedication in both platonic and romantic relationships” (cite). Through the repetition of the lyrics “tell me who you are loyal to”, not only gets stuck in the listeners head but it causes them to question the songs deeper meaning. When the video was released it became clear that the song is about a volatile relationship between man and women; portraying the power each one of them holds.
“My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy” by Kanye West is truly remarkable and a work of art for that decade and possibly for the century as well. If you’ve yet to figure out, the starting lyrics were extracted from this album. For Kanye West, releasing new and creative styles of works is crucial, each album of his utilizes a new element, all of his albums from “College Dropout” to “My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy” reflect and support this statement, his listeners can concur as
Kanye Omari West, an icon of hip-hop, pop culture, fashion and music in general. Kanye Omari West, a person belittled against and a person subjected to a life of racism and hate. Born on June 8th, 1977, Donda West, West’s mother, always knew he was destined for greatness, but did she know her son would turn out to be the Kanye West, a man lacking the respect he deserves for transforming a big part of the music we listen to on this very day? West came onto the scene in the late nineties but didn’t release The College Dropout until 2004, an album that took everybody by surprise. Kanye West changed the gangster filled rap genre by releasing his positive, soulful debut album, changing the way rappers dress, and paving the way for a whole new style of introspective lyrics and soul-inspired rap production in the mainstream.
He may just seem like another rapper to you but if you actually listen to his lyrics you can see he’s not like any rapper out there. His name is Kanye West and he was born in Chicago Illinois. He grew up in the “ghetto” and learned to appreciate life. He didn’t learn to really, truly appreciate life until October of 2002. Driving back to his hotel late one night after a recording session, the new-coming rap/hip-hop artist was involved in a devastating, near fatal car accident. The crash left him with a broken jaw in three places and an appreciation for life. Just weeks after being released from the hospital he recorded his first major hit, “Through the Wire,” with his mouth still wired shut. He records every song like its going to be his last song and that makes every song better than the last. He’s not only a rap artist but also a producer. He has been responsible for being behind songs like Jay-Z’s Izzo, Girls, Girls, Girls, The Takeover, and 03 Bonnie and Clyde.
In the song Drake talks about how your world can come crashing during a break up when he says, “When a good thing goes bad it’s not the end of the world/ It’s just the end of a world that you had with one girl” (Rapgenius, Doing It Wrong) Continuing the theme of heartbreak in his song “Missin You” he continues to express his heartache when he said, “Ya, and when she not by my side/ And I hear that she gone/ Now its like a shock to my pride/ I don’t care if she know/ Cuz that’s basically just a male ego” (Rapgenius, Missin You (Remix)) That stanza struck me the most because Drake is telling the listener that he doesn’t care if people knows how he feels about his ex girlfriend. He references the male ego and how it doesn’t allow a man to feel hurt if a girl leaves
“There is an intellectual distinction between a gangster in a business environment and a businessman in a gangster environment,” says Ross (Ross 74). 'Freeway’ Rick Ross grew up illiterate, living on the streets with rough gangs, and in impoverished neighborhoods where violence and drugs were on the rise. Rick goes into the drug business. Danilo Brandon became Rick’s main drug supplier and his downfall. Blandon had been more than Rick’s connection: He belonged to a ring of exiled Nicaraguans with ties to the Contras, the CIA-backed guerrilla army fighting a civil war in the name of anticommunism (Katz). Unbeknownst to him, he possibly ended up a pawn in a United States government conspiracy to trade drugs for guns during the Iran-Contra affair (Moore). Regardless, Freeway Rick Ross went from being one of the largest crack cocaine dealers in the eighties to prison in the nineties to fund raiser and legal entrepreneur today.
It is so hard to become a rapper. But it is harder to become a Great Rapper. I believe Tupac is a great rapper. Not only a great rapper, but the greatest rapper. Like Snoop Dogg had said, “Tupac was many different things at once. Hardheaded and intellectual, courageous and afraid, revolutionary and….oh yeah, don’t get it f***ed up, gangsta.” To be a great rapper, you must have impact, commercial success, be good at song writing, a lot of performances and live shows and lastly, hella good rapping. The first song I heard from tupac was “ambitions az a ridah and all eyes on me” and it was real original so I went and listened to ‘Brenda got a baby’ which made me think “dammmmm he good, he good as hell”
