1773: Boston Tea Party
introduction-
One might wonder why I've choosen this topic well it's easy it seems that history has a weird sense of irony to it doesn't it. A long time in place not to uncommon from today we American's were being bullied by a systemical system of tyrant's who wanted absouletly no more then to just get there way and leave us shang highed thankfully we American's didn't back down. A governantce body of lords and commoners. Trying to make whatever profit they could by pushing their tea onto us.
1773 -
The year was 1773 and the beginning stages of the Boston Tea Party were in full swing. With a strong hold on and not over the American colonies

Great Britian wanted a right to have us American's buy off the Bristish supply of tea. The consumption had fallen in the 70% from previous years which had now left the Brits struggling to keep a foothold in America with over capitalization and not enough money coming in from previous years the brits were getting a wild hair up their ashe's. What came next was troubling as The British Parliament sought out ways to regain revenue's lost income in the tea trade. It was mid-summer 1773,the financial ruin that was seen by the British Parliament would not go unheard. So,the Brits governing body devised a scheme for what they could've only figured would've been a sure fire get rich or die trying scheme. Which, gave birth to the Tea Act. What would follow can only be explained as a Master and Slave paradox. We'll sell you the tea at an over inflated, tax off the type half take it as you can get it when you can get it ploy in their supposed favor. By creating what can only be discribed as a money monopoly thus with Tea! There was a diffinate problem here in the midst because the colonists have had trade arrangements already in place with London merchants who would buy and or facilitate the Americans need for tea. What the Brits wanted to do was ultimately eliminate the middle man and create the only market available to colonists. Creating divergance it seemed was easy enough in prinicple could it actually work when words were put into action? The Bristish seemed keen on making themselves the only market that was to be dealt with and stipulating in a sort of a grievance way that if any tea was to be bought that it must come directly from the East India Company and no one else. Which, was a clever ploy to drive business out of town and to make themselves single properit's of the whole bloody lot of it was brilliant in essence's. Mandating the direct traffic of sales to hit Parliaments pocket outright wasn't going to work for the Colonists who thought that taxing the direct import / export trade was a bit much. A revolution was in the beginning stages unbeknowst to either the East India Trading Company or British Parliament directly. The question the Colonist's were probably asking themselves was, "Why should I have to pay a tryannt a world away taxes when this man only wants to gather his profit and leave the table afterwards." Revolt it is!- Colonists sought from the british government what they couldn't hope to achieve which was a free market to buy, sale or barter with whomever, whereever or whenever they choose too! So,with the next shipment of tea on its way to the colonist in September of 1773 some 500,000 tons of tea from England headed to the American shores the colonist were in talks as to how to approach this situation. With the crown sitting ontop of the colonist the descision they decide must be swift and stiff and not leave any room for future grivenances to go unheard.
What came next was maybe one of the coolest and inspiring thing's that I've ever heard about in American history! One the reverse side of the coin the East India Trade Company must think that the colonist won't do anything to brash or out of line as they like they're tea and can't live without it. Little do they know as it seem's the colonist's have been making side deals with other persons for their tea supply.
When the EITC pulls into dock they find that the colonist have been getting supplied by other interested parties and can see that the colonist are relatively feverent over the situation in just! While, pulling into other various asorted docks along the eastern shoreline example( New York and Philadelphia ) ships are asked to leave for London before docking. In Annapolis, Maryland a crowd of unruly spectators commodire the ship much to the scarred ships captain disbelieve they burn not only the tea but also the vessel itself.
" The first tea ship, the Dartmouth, arrives in Boston on November 28th carrying a load of Darjeeling. Two more ships quickly
follow." " In a public show of defiance against the British authorities, Samuel Adams and other Bostonians prevent the tea - 60 tons all together - from being unloaded. " Difance as it seem's wouldn't ultimately lead the British's East India Trade Company from trying to unload for profit. At which time ship captain Hutchinson was very comtempulative on dropping his tea on dock and charging the asking price plus tax he felt as if he wasn't going to be bullied into turning about face and setting sail once again for England. He found out that trying to push Bostonians to the brink of malic was sher madness. December 16th, here's the day of reckoning 150 colonist's dressed as Mohawked Indian's, Samuel Adams and " The Sons of Liberty" needless to say they flooded the dock at Griffin's Wharf, mounted an attack on the ships cargo which contained roughly 340 chest's of tea or about 1-2 million dollars today and pour it into the harbor. Conclusion- " From 1773 forward for the next 62 years, people refer to the events on the night of December 16th as "The Destruction of the Tea." Finally, in 1835, the Sons of Liberty's bold actions start being called "The Boston Tea Party." I believe that Boston, Massucuettes would be a great place for me to live. With so many things that capture my eyes from a historical stand point it's no wonder why so many warm blooded American's like to call Boston,BeanTown,The Revere state home. The historical signicance is so rich and ripe that one should ultimately feel awe inspired to write a 1,000 word paper as to why Boston is so awesome unlike Colorado. But,also when the chips were stacked against us we wouldn't simply shut up and go quitely into the night, we would not bow down without a fight and why we've kept the faith alive right here in the United States!
Many people believe that the Boston Tea Party arose just because of the Tea Act that came into play in 1773, but in-fact, this major statement arose from two issues surrounding the British Empire in 1765. The first of the issues was that the British East India Company was at risk of going under and the Parliament was finding ways to bring it back. The second issue was that there was a continuing dispute about the extent of the Parliament’s authority. Many colonists believe that the Parliament went overboard with their power and the people were concerned about the future. Attempting to resolve these two major issues, the North Ministry only worsened the problem and produced a showdown that would eventually result in revolution.
The men on the ship we ordered to collect taxes at gunpoint from every ship that entered the harbor (Woman). Over half of the ships in Rhode Island had smuggle tea onboard, putting every ship in danger (Woman). The bay had many nooks and crannies that allowed cover for the seamen determined to destroy Britain’s Acts of Trade Navigation (Woman). In February 1772, the Gaspee sailed into Rhode Island’s Narragansett Bay to help in the enforcement of customs collection and and the inspection of cargo (Woman). Rhode Island was known for smuggling with the enemy of the British during wartime and Dudingston and his men quickly irritated dominate merchant interests in the small colony (Woman). Dudingston immediately stopped and took away one of the packet sloop ships owned by the dominate Greene family of East Greenwich, and he and his crew beat the packet’s sloop commander, Rufus Greene (Woman). Dudingston then made the sloop and her cargo as a prize of customs enforcement, and sent the sloop to Boston to be sold by the Admiralty there (Woman). This infuriated the colonists in Rhode Island (Woman). The Gaspee men were even ordered to take goods from farmers without permission (Woman). When the news of these incidents got to the Governor of Rhode Island, Joseph Wanton, Wanton called for a meeting with Dudingston, but Dudingston refused to show (Woman). Instead Dudingston continued his game of
“The American Revolution was a beginning, not a consummation”. This famous quote by Woodrow Wilson accurately shows how the American Revolution impacted the views of society on its country. When referring to this separation from Britain as a beginning rather than a finish it shows unity and the start of something great. When the American Revolution is discussed there are a plethora of affecting aspects that are thought of as important roles. One of these many factors that changed the American Revolution was the Tea Act of 1773. The Tea Act altered the American Revolution by affecting the Boston Tea Party and the unity in the colonies.
It was obvious that the Colonists weren’t responding well to tighter control from the British, but they did not know how to handle it except to squeeze tighter. In an effort to bring back the East India Company from bankruptcy, the British Crown granted them a monopoly on tea sales to the American Colonies. Without competition, the East India Company had full control over the prices they set. This infuriated the colonists. Pamphlets and protests did not seem to be cutting it anymore, so some felt like action needed to be taken.
England then passes the Tea Act taxing imported tea, but also gives the British East Indian Tea co. a complete monopoly, cutting the middleman out of the deal, thus putting American merchants nearly out of business. As time went on, and the British got a little more nervous about the colonies' acts of rebellion, they decide to try and stop it by taking away a basic right, the right to free assembly. This further angers the colonist. England pushes harder on the colonists until an assembly was considered to be two guys meeting on the street. All of this forces the colonists to meet underground.
In the first few months of 1773 the British East India Company found it was sitting on large stocks of tea that it could not sell in England. It was on the verge of bankruptcy, and many members of Parliament owned stock in this company. (USA, 1) The Tea Act in 1773 was an effort to save it. The Tea Act gave the company the right to export its merchandise without paying taxes. Thus, the company could undersell American merchants and monopolize the colonial tea trade. By October, the Sons of Liberty in New York, Philadelphia, and Boston threatened tea imports and pledged a tea boycott.
For my whole life, I have lived in Boston. In 1773, me and some others went on to the British’s ship to protest. We threw 342 chests of tea into the Ocean. This had caused the Boston Tea Party. As I am serving in the war, young women at home are crushing on British soldiers, only for their handsomeness and red fancy coats. At one point Washington’s position was uncertain. Valley Forge was located about 18

The men were really the Sons of Liberty led by Samuel Adams. The Sons of Liberty was a group who was formed to protest British taxation and to protect the rights of colonists. They started walking to the harbor that night in their disguises and more men joined them until the group had about 150 people. They walked to the ship and when one guard tried to stop them. A man in the group raised his gun and said, “The path is wide enough for all of us; we have nothing to do with you and intend you no harm-if you keep your own way peacefully we shall keep ours.” He was smart when he stepped aside. The men ordered the captain and the crew below and used their axes to open up the crates and throw the tea leaves into the harbor. Anyone who tried to steal the tea leaves instead of throwing it overboard was either beaten or tossed overboard. After the main event, some of the Sons of Liberty got in canoes and started batting down the leaves. They vowed to not eat fish from Boston harbor because they fish had been swimming through the tea.
George Hewes’ account of the Boston Tea party is considered a firsthand account of a historically significant event. The Boston Tea party took place the night of December 16, 1773 on three ships anchored in Boston Harbor. Hewes recounts the events leading up to the Boston Tea Party, the actual attack on the ships and its aftermath. He provides descriptive narration thus contributing to the historical context surround the Tea party. This event and many others leading up to it, provide a colorful backdrop on the eve of the American Revolution.
The imperial tactics of the British Empire were exercised on the colonists through heavy taxes trade restrictions because of their mercantilist economy. The Stamp Act taxed the colonists directly on paper goods ranging from legal documents to newspapers. Colonists were perturbed because they did not receive representation in Parliament to prevent these acts from being passed or to decide where the tax money was spent. The colonists did not support taxation without representation. The Tea Act was also passed by Parliament to help lower the surplus of tea that was created by the financially troubled British East India Company. The colonists responded to this act by executing the Boston Tea Party which tossed all of the tea that was imported into the port of Boston. This precipitated the Boston Port Act which did not permit the colonists to import goods through this port. The colonists protested and refused all of these acts which helped stir the feelings of rebellion among the colonists. The British Mercantilist economy prevented the colonists from coin...

These events consisted of The French and Indian war, the Stamp Act, the Townshend Revenue Act, the Tea Act, and of course the Boston Tea Party. During Johnny’s happiness, British trade ships had brought over shipments of tea. The tea had a heavy tax on it per pound. The colonist did not agree with the tax and they said that they would not pay it unless they had equal representation for the colonies in England. A large group including, Johnny and Rab chopped, Ripped, and threw out all the tea that was on the boats into the Boston
