1 Introduction
In the present paper, the company Robert Bosch GmbH will be presented. The target of this paper is to give a broad overview of the company’s structure and to analyse its current situation and strategy.
Starting with chapter 2, the reader will get an idea of Bosch’s company profile. In this chapter the Bosch history and the company’s development over time will be envisioned as well as the Bosch foundation. Chapter 3 will look at the company’s mission, its attitudes and values. The next chapter will look at the company’s corporate and business strategy, followed by Bosch’s business sectors and its international structure described in chapter 5. The following chapter will give some information on employment at Bosch and employee motivation This will be followed by an analysis of this worldwide operating company, regarding the strengths and weaknesses as well as the opportunities and threats that Bosch might face in the future. Finally chapter 8 concludes the paper.

2 Company Profile
2.1 History and development
The company began as a “Workshop for Precision Mechanics and Electrical Engineering” which the founder Robert Bosch opened in Stuttgart in 1886.
The company’s international activities can look back on a long tradition: as early as 1898, only a few years after having found his company, Robert Bosch opened his first representative office in London. The next step towards internationalisation followed one year later with the foundation of a second Bosch representative office in Paris to provide the French and Belgian markets. Particularly important for the further development of the foreign organisation was the opening of an agency in New York in 1906 and the commencement of production in the USA in 1910.
Greta, niece of Lukas and a recent MBA graduate, has newly joined Deutsche’s board of directors and must make a recommendation on three issues: the financial plan for 2001, the declaration of a quarterly dividend, and adoption of the proposed incentive and compensation package for Oleg. The financial plan includes a 7 million euro investment in new plant and equipment for the Ukrainian operations in 2001, followed by a 6.8 million euro investment in 2002 for a new Ukranian warehouse and distribution center. This is a significant investment, and the practicality of rooting themselves in the Ukraine in this manner needs to be fully assessed before Deutsche commits to such an expensive endeavor.
Until recently, the Ford Motor Company has been one of the most dynastic of American enterprises, a factor which has both benefited the company and has brought it to the brink of disaster. Today Ford is the second largest manufacturer of automobiles and trucks in the world, and it’s operations are well diversified, both operationally and geographically. The company operates the worlds second largest finance company in the world, and is a major producer of tractors, glass and steel. It is most prominent in the US, but also has plants in Canada, Britain and Germany, and facilities in over 100 countries.
This report comprises of the explanation of two different companies working in different market fields, the two companies I’ve chosen are Primark and Samsung I am going to write about the influence of the 4vs which are the volume of output, variation in demand for output, visibility of production, and variety of output. I am also going to look at the performance objectives in each of the companies. This report focuses on Toyota Motor Corporation, a Japanese automotive manufacturer which developed the concept of lean manufacturing to increase the efficiency of its production by reducing the stock holding level. The basis of Toyota Production System (TPS) is the sheer elimination of waste. TPS includes standardization of work, uninterrupted work flows, direct links between suppliers and customers, and continuous improvement based on the scientific method (Spear and Bowen, 1999). The four main concepts of TPS are Just in Time (JIT), automation, flexible workforce and capitalizing on workers suggestion. Also, Toyota uses the pull inventory control system where the orders come from the customers and the line reacts to the demand. Ohno (1988) formulated Kanban as a ‘medium to pull material from an upstream station and manage product flow’. This has given Toyota its competitive advantage through the years.

Hunsk Engines is a motorcycle company that made the fatal mistake of expanding its research in the market on its new products. The companies main competitors were companies like Harley Davidson, where they sold classic products that were seen as something with altering respect. Marty Echt is hired on by Hunsk Engines to restore the company’s image, on what used to be classic motorcycles. He argues that the company made the mistake of forgetting about its original products and, “lost its identity”. This problem frequently happens when companies attempt to grow, in order for new products to make it in the market place you have to carefully strategize its competitive characteristics and know when to introduce a new product through Michael Porters life cycle.
According to Toyota, they have undertaken a manufacturing revolution that has fundamentally changed established practices; all the way back to the product development and design. They have done this by integrating four areas: design, production engineering, procurement, and component supply. They have achieved higher quality at lower costs by creating standardized, multipurpose components. Also the reduction in cost has heightened the value and fortifies the competitiveness of product. To do this, Toyota has required intensive coordination with its suppliers. Another factor of their Integrated Low Cost is that Toyota steadily feeds cost improvements back into the product to raise their value along with the fact that four Toyota’s seven corporate auditors are outside corporate auditors.
The company has diversified so much that it has lost its core competency. Also, the acquired businesses are irrelevant in nature. The tool business needs a ‘Business to Business’ type of marketing. However, some of the firms are ‘Business to Consumer’ (e.g. Bakery Business, Dry cleaning store chain) and ‘Business to Government’ (e.g. Firm engaged in Defence research work) as well. So, lack of integration of the business is one of the key issues we need to address.
Its objective is to integrate people, process, and technology. Toytoa’s product development procedure is essentially different from a manufacturing process. Its backbone is not visible, but knowledge and information which are untouchable. The product development’s cycle time is much longer than hours. It usually takes weeks or even months. The production chains are non-linear and multi-directional. Workers are no longer manufacturing workers but specialists with high diverse technology. Toyota’s core competencies seem simplistic, yet they are very powerful. There are two in which they focus on which is continuous improvement and respect for people. These core competencies are a part of their production system, better known as the Toyota Production System (TPS). The TPS is based on the philosophy “completely eliminating all waste”.
