When people are bored, they will start noticing others’ actions around them. This skill can keep us from danger. For example, a person that is bored will be less possible to be hit by a football than a person that’s excited. This is because people who are bored are more alert. Boredom can also help people stay sensible. Scientists found out that because bored people are calm, they are more probable to be sensitive than the ones that are over excited. This can help people perform better on their works and exams. Additionally, boredom can keep us focused on objects. Remember when you are working on a project and someone texted you on your phone? Yeah. After you replied, you went on Facebook, Skype, Instagram, and other social media before you go back to your project. But imagine if that person did not text you. You will be focusing on that project and would not be off task. This is why boredom can also keep you focused. Thus, boredom can help you stay alert, sensitive, and focused. “Being bored lets you stand back from life and observe it”- a researcher at the University of East
Boredom was everywhere in my world, and if you asked the kids, as often as I did, why they felt so bored, they always gave me the same answers: They said the work was stupid, that it made no sense, that they already knew it. They said they wanted to be doing something real, not just sitting around. They said teachers didn’t seem to know much about their subjects and clearly weren’t interested in learning more. And the kids were right: their teachers were every bit as bored as they were
In the essay, “The Boredom Effect,1952, writer Ellen Ruppel Shell acknowledges the child’s mind and how creative their mind are. The purpose of this essay is to persuade the readers that a child should never be bored and that they should always have something to do with their spare time. She felt that children should taste their freedom by exploring the world. Also, she said guardians should not try to create activities or put them in sports to keep them occupied. Ellen writes “Back then, parents pretty much stayed out of children’s business.” In her thesis, she mentions that parents should let children be bored. I agree with Ellen, parents should let their children be children and let them be creative. However, parents shouldn’t control their
If human beings were never motivated in any way, our world would be nothing compared to what it is today. People have every right to wake up every single morning looking forward to how they are going to spend their day. The atmosphere they will be put in and faced with is very important, but the people who will be surrounding them are even more significant.
This is because on a smartphone you have automatic access to cameras, games, social media, email, and videos. Many people can agree with this because sometimes being bored is unpleasant and we always want to keep ourselves occupied.
Teachers need to be allowed to teach the students how they want so the lesson plan is more fun and exciting. Boredom is just an emotion and teachers shouldn’t have to feel that because of them, they are affecting the state of mind of students.. Teachers should able to engage the students with their own thought process. Teachers need freedom and should not have to worry about how fast they teach a subject because the government wants it done in a specific way at a specific time. Teachers understand that students all learn differently and many teachers want to help all of their students, but they are stuck in a school system that tells them how they must teach.
Within humanity people tend to motivate themselves by the effect it will have on themselves or the people that they genuinely care for. In the novel, The Road by Cormac McCarthy the man and boy
...HD like the researchers expected, the results from the experiment could still help allow teachers to be more aware of the signs of a boredom prone student. Also, with this new knowledge teachers could try to use more interactive learning systems, and different methods of instruction to students who are more prone to boredom resulting in a rise in course grades and participation. Also, knowing that there was no correlation between having ADHD and doing poorly academically could help bring assurance to students in college who have the disorder, by allowing them to see that it has been tested and ADHD students aren’t any lower in GPA than the average student.
The author trusts that all humans have some level of motivation as long as they exist. In turn, there are several well-known classic approaches that consider motivation such as instinct, drive reduction, arousal, incentive, and humanistic approaches. It is beyond the scope of this paper to describe all in detail, but a brief synopsis of each follows: (1) Instinct approach theorists suggest that humans have many diverse instincts that are biologically determined and cause innate patterns of behaviors such as reproducing, territorial protection, curiosity, acquisition, and fight, flight or freeze to name a few (McDougall, 1908). (2) Drive-reduction theory proposes that individuals have needs that are essential for survival and this need cause a tension to act called a drive. These drives entail primary drives for physical needs such as water and food, and acquired drives realized through conditioning or experience such as the need for income or social acceptance; whereas, one must meet the need to reduce the drive to return to a state of homeostasis (Hull, 1943). (3) Theorists who support an Arousal approach believe that humans are motivated by stimulation and people develop an optimal level of stimulus tension; whereas, task performances may suffer if the level is too high such as severe test anxiety or even too low such as boredom
13. Preventing Boredom and filling “free” time: To prevent students from becoming sidetracked and bored, I know it is important to have a continuous flow of activities. To ensure this, I plan all of my lessons with extra activities for unexpected “free” time. These efforts will help ensure that class time is used wisely for furthering education. I feel that the busier I keep my students the less likely they will have time for inappropriate behavior.
In the Essay, “ A Reunion with Boredom” Charles Simic argues that our unhealthy dependence on technology has disconnected us from the healthy benefits of being bored. This realization comes to him amid a few day power blackout as an after effect of Hurricane Irene, when Simic was left without access to any mechanical gadgets. What strikes Simic most is the way that society looks for always to be possessed and subsequently have put some distance between the individual reflection that originates from encountering quieter moments. However, I believe that that the earlier times did have its own distractions such as how technology was slowly progressing which made people more entertained and led to them not being bored. In addition, today’s distractions
Curiosity is a personality trait that everyone has in some way or another throughout their whole life. How it is defined, however, is up for debate. Many people consider curiosity to be simply a desire to learn and know, but scholars tend to take the meaning deeper. George Loewenstein (1994) describes curiosity as the attraction to information that “confers no extrinsic benefit,” so people tend to delve more deeply into things than would serve to help them somehow. To define it in a more distinctive manner from other traits such as novelty-seeking, one may say curiosity is a, “positive emotional-motivational system associated with the recognition, pursuit, and self-regulation of novel and challenging opportunities” (Kashdan 2004). A motivation theory that was presented in the 20th is called “Arousal Theory”. The two psychologists by the names Robert M. Yerkes and John Dillingham Dodson were the ones responsible for introducing the “Yerkes-Dodson Law” in the early 1900’s. The theory suggests, “during low arousal or stimulation the results is slow and lethargic and as the arousal increases so does the performance”. As it applies to motivation, arousal is a need that can be triggered by several factors. For instance, they can be a factor that is dependent on the temperature or climate. The arousal can be dictated by either hot or cold. In “cold” situations, arousal can be deemed low and on the other spectrum of being “hot”, arousal can elevate. During winter times, generally people tend to stay inside and stay warm in their cozy homes relaxing in their fireplace. People’s tendencies can be relaxed and lazy (low arousal). On the other hand, during summer weather most of us are vibrant and lively enjoy...

Creativity can be caused by certain states of mind or situations. One state of mind that can promote creativity is happiness or a positive mood. As said by PBS, “Creativity is less likely to be present with negative emotions such as fear, anger, sadness and anxiety; it is positively associated with positive emotions such as joy, love, and curiosity” (Creativity). This shows that with a positive attitude you can promote creativity. Along with promoting creativity, this link can also make us interested in the world around us and create even more happiness. To create happiness, you must pursue what you 're interested in and have a passion in that subject. This is agreed-upon in a TED talk where the speaker said, “So I always say to people, forget it. Like, if you don 't have an obvious passion, forget about it. Follow your curiosity because passion is sort of a tower of flame that is not always accessible” (Where Does Creativity Come From?). So in summary if you pursue your passion you can create happiness which in turn can create
Since we are born we have imagination and as we grow up this imagination may increase or decrease. Creativity strongly relies in our imagination. Depending on different circumstances people learn to express their creativity openly while other people close themselves and believe they do not have creativity. Creativity is a natural talent that every single human has. Creativity can be used to solve a complex problem in a different manner or just to find innovative ways to have fun. Creativity is thinking out of the box. Even though creativity cannot be taught from scratch there should be a class that is specific for creativity.
