Have you ever gone to the movie theater excited to watch one of your favorite books on the big screen only to find out the movie is nothing like the book? This exact situation has caused debates for many years on whether books or movies are better than the other. If you ask others what they think, you will get several different answers. Some strictly only like movies or books while others like them both equally. While books go into more detail than movies, movies are much faster to get through. Our society advertises movies much more than books. This shows that our society, as a whole, values movies over books.

Books go into extreme depth when applying detail. Authors put in an excessive amount of details because the audience has to imagine the scene in their head. There is no screen in front of them to show them what is going on. Many people dislike books, though, because they have difficulty creating an image in their head, which comes with practice. It also helps if they are reading something they love and it interests them. In movies, many details are deleted to save time and money. It is up to the writers of the movie what details to delete. If every single detail was added into a movie, it could possibly be over four hours long. Also, time is money. Movie producers do not have the money for all the details to be added in. . Many people get frustrated with movies, though, because it does not match up to what they pictured in their head. For instance, actors do not always match up to character descriptions.
