“The Alchemist” is about a name Santiago, who was a shepherd and traveling around with his flock. One night, he had dreamed a child who tells him there was a hidden treasure located in Egyptian pyramid. He goes to rummage the treasure and on the road he had many different problems that makes him wants to give up. However, he met many people and given him tremendous of courage to make him wants to continue. The first person he met was the old king. The old king appears at the market and the boy having a hard time to decide rather go or not. The old king wanted to talk to the boy and tells him about the treasure.The old king talked about the “destiny” which the things you have to accomplish in your life and the omens which is the sign. In order to get succeed you need omens.Then the king took out 2 rocks one is black another one is white, the black is no and the white one is yes. Take them out when you have a difficult time to decide. Before the old king leave he said “When you want something, all the universe conspires to help you achieve it”. The crystal merchant hired and he worked there for an entire year.The crystal merchant offered a good commission to him and had told him about his dream which is going to Mecca.However, the crystal merchant chose to stay what he have right now and don’t want to pursuit anything also the crystal merchant said to the boy you are not going to buy your sheep. It seems like Santiago’s father believes in him, but not the way Santiago wants him to.
"The Alchemist" is a novel written by Brazilian author Paulo Coelho in 1988. It tells the story of an Andalusian shepherd known as Santiago and his journey of fulfilling his "dream" which he names his "Personal Legend". Throughout his voyage, he met many different people and was forced under many different circumstances, and we are able to experience his emotional states throughout every part of his journey. He undergoes many revelations, and we could argue he becomes wiser and more aware of the spiritual value which everything in the world possesses. He ends up finding his "Personal Legend", but despite actualizing his "dream", he was a victim to the negative emotions that come with being human, and therefore we could argue that the main conflict in "The Alchemist" is within Santiago himself.
