Mathematical Thinkers
The topic of my book is Mathematical Thinkers. There exists five sections in this book. It describes the contents about math and mathematicians, such as the earliest kind of math, ancient mathematicians, european mathematicians, the beginnings of modern math and math today and tomorrow. The book covers the mathematicians' famous books, discoveries, systems and theories. Our world is filled with numbers, consequently, math plays an important role in our daily life. The development of the discipline math has been made great progress from the ancient times to now. It almost owes to the wisdom of the mathematicians. From the book, I comprehend many sources and processes of the generation of the mathematical theories and discoveries. On the one hand, there are many merits in this book. In terms of the writing organization and techniques, the theme of each part of the book is clear-cut and definite. The book is written based on the chronological order to present the process of math and the contributions of the mathematicians. Thus, we can read it perspicuously. Moreover, there are many photos and illustrations in the book and they are effective in enhancing the book's message. As for the content, I realize that our world is filled with numbers far and near. The history of mathematics has its roots on the African continent. The oldest mathematical object was found in Swaziland Africa. The oldest example of arithmetic was found in Zaire. The 4000 year old, Moscow papyrus, contains geometry, from the Middle Kingdom of Egypt, Egypt was the cradle of mathematics. The great Greek mathematicians, including Pythagoras, Thales, and Exodus all acquired much of their mathematics from Egypt, including the notion of zero. This paper will discuss a brief history of mathematics in Africa. Starting with the Lebombo bone and the Ishango Bone, I will then present Egyptian mathematics and end with a discourse on Muslim mathematics in African. “Most histories of mathematics devote only a few pages to Africa and Ancient Egypt... Generally they ignore the history of mathematics in Africa … and give the impression that this history either did not exist or, at least …is not knowable.”
Mathematics has become a very large part of society today. From the moment children learn the basic principles of math to the day those children become working members of society, everyone has used mathematics at one point in their life. The crucial time for learning mathematics is during the childhood years when the concepts and principles of mathematics can be processed more easily. However, this time in life is also when the point in a person’s life where information has to be broken down to the very basics, as children don’t have an advanced capacity to understand as adults do. Mathematics, an essential subject, must be taught in such a way that children can understand and remember.
I also learned that mathematics was more than merely an intellectual activity: it was a necessary tool for getting a grip on all sorts of problems in science and engineering. Without mathematics there is no progress. However, mathematics could also show its nasty face during periods in which problems that seemed so simple at first sight refused to be solved for a long time. Every math student will recognize these periods of frustration and helplessness.
Over the course of these past few weeks we have learned all sorts of math that we will utilize in our everyday lives. They have all been very interesting; my favorite subjects were learning about how voting works and how to calculate owning a home. For our final math project in our math modeling class, we had to choose a topic that interested us yet had something to do with mathematics. For this presentation, I decided to research the history of math and art and how the two have been used together to create amazing artwork.
To the students, the result of this study can help them be aware of their own difficulties and serve as their guide to have a better result in solving mathematical problems.

In conclusion, it is clear that while their ancient civilization perished long ago, the contributions that the Egyptians made to mathematics have lived on. The Egyptians were practical in their approach to mathematics, and developed arithmetic and geometry in response to transactions they carried out in business and agriculture on a daily basis. Therefore, as a civilization that created hieroglyphs, the decimal system, and hieratic writing and numerals, the contributions of the Egyptians to the study of mathematics cannot and should not be overlooked.
