Sarah McVeigh. At first, I hated Audrey’s mom because she was a crazy lady who is obsessed with the Daily Mail and then based her whole life around it. She wasn't a good mom. But she was a real antagonist, for Audrey and her brother. But then when I read more about I liked Audrey's mom. And by the end of the novel she was my favorite character. Audrey has a therapist, Dr. Sarah McVeigh. Dr. Sarah tells Audrey that she will okay if she return to her school and make eye contact with other people. Dr. Sarah helped her to make a film about herself and her family because she think it might be easier for Audrey to make eye contact through the camera. My favorite character of all of them, was Audrey's 15-year-old brother, Frank. Frank is kind of addicted to online games but he is also trying to understand Audrey conditions more than for his addiction. Frank is genuine. Despite that funny side of Frank, he was also a really good big brother to Audrey. He always supports Audrey in many ways. I really liked Frank and Audrey's …show more content…
They go from writing adorable notes to going to Starbucks together. Linus helped her to ask a stranger a question and making eye contact with other people. My favorite scene of the story was when Audrey’s mother was holding Frank computer out of her bedroom window, threatening him to throw it to the ground of their
The book had a few characters that I liked, but a lot of characters that I disliked. For example Yasmine was a character that I disliked. I didn’t like her because she brought pain to Paige’s life. Yasmine and Paige were best friends for months in Sixth grade. They were constantly doing fun activities together, like having sleepovers or planning each other’s birthday parties, but all that was ruined by a mistake Yasmine made. Paige and Yasmine were at a school dance, when
Rachel was Melinda's friend all of middle school but she turned out to be a complete jerk to Melinda. Heather was a fake friend who only stuck by her side until she was accepted in a ¨cool¨ group. David Petrakis is a nerd who is almost in every one of Melinda's classes. They grow close mostly because they both have no friends, but he is a true friend. Towards the end of the group Melinda starts to come out to Rachel about why she called the police, but Rachel just got even more upset. Melinda thankfully realizes how bad of a friend Rachel is on page 198 ¨I don't want to be cool. I want to grab her by the neck and shake her and scream at her to stop treating me like dirt. She didn't even bother to find out the truth – what kind of friend is that? ¨ Melinda gets close to her art teacher. Art is the one class that Melinda enjoys because she gets to be with her new friend Ivy. Ivy and David are the only people Melinda has, but that is enough for her. On the first day of school Melinda recalls being the only person sitting alone on page 134.¨ I see a few friends people I used to think were my friends—but they look away. ¨ Positively Melinda has found the two only true friends in her school and starts to become a more optimistic
April Raintree is the main protagonist in the book, In Search of April Raintree by Beatrice Mosionier. Throughout her childhood she was embarrassed to be Metis, and because of her taking after her mother’s Irish pale skin, being able to blend into white society she would hide her native ancestry.
The primary character in this story is the Grandmother whose epiphany at the end of the story gives the religious and moral push that is underlying the actual text. O'Conner leaves the Grandmother's character unnamed; by doing this and infusing cantankerous dialogue, O'Connor manages to provide the story with wit and sketch a both sad and funny portrait of the Grandmother. The Grandmother's character is one that is both frustrating to the reader and familiar at the same time--a character that the reader can feel superior, especially at the beginning of the story. The Grandmother is self-centered, demanding, and haughty--it is indeed her domineering demeanor that ultimately causes the death of her family.
Although in Breath, Eyes, Memory, by Edwidge Danticat, Sophie loves and cares very much for her mother Martine, the relationship between the two women is strained and somewhat adversarial. This is due to the negative circumstances surrounding Sophie's existence. Sophie is the product of her mother's rape, and her mother can not stop thinking about this aspect of their relationship. She has nightmares about the rape every night, and these nightmares are more intense when Sophie is living with her.
Tracy’s identity development is heavily influenced by her new friendship with Evie from that moment on. Evie is so popular, but she makes very poor choices and Tracy follows her lead because she wants to seem just as “cool” as her new companion. This is a type of peer pressure that affects many teenagers daily.... ... middle of paper ... ...
Jessie is a young smart girl who just wants to prove herself to everyone. Evan is the popular boy who :plays to win.” Megan is one of Jessie’s friends who has a crush on Evan. The last main character is Scott, he’s the bully in the book.
In Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson, there are several important themes such as adolescence, growth, and depression. Anderson’s 1999 novel revolves around Melinda Sardino, a Syracuse teen attending Merryweather High School. Her friends have abandoned her and she struggles with depression, resulting in her lack of speech. Melinda hides away most of her school year in a janitor’s closet, but comes out in her art class where she works on various projects involving a tree. She has a deep secret, one that she can’t tell anyone. The author uses symbolism to convey anger and sadness throughout the book. The various forms of the tree hidden throughout the book provide insight into Melinda’s mental and social life.
1. Characters- The main characters in this story are Fern, Charlie, and Ran. In the beginning of the story I had a feeling that Ran and Fern were going to start to like each other, and by the end of the book my hypothesis was correct.
Speak is about a girl named Melinda. She is a teenager that just started ninth grade. Many other teenagers were her friends in middle school, but not anymore. She had done something terrible that summer before high school began, and everyone hates her for it. She called the police at a party she snuck out too. Without her parents knowing. All her peers thought there was no reason for her to call the police. Only she knew the real reason. Melinda believes that no one understands her or will ever understand her. Knowing what she knows what happened at the party that night.
Melinda Sordino started off her high school experience like an outcast. She didn’t have any friends and she just expected it to stay that way. All Melinda wanted was to tell her best friend what really happened, but the closest she got to a friend was Heather from Ohio. She became depressed not only from what happened but also from being stuck in the tiny town of Syracuse, New York. She is going through her freshman year acting like nothing ever happened. She spends almost the entire year mute because she thinks no one will want to hear what she has to say. Melinda struggles with trying to find her voice the entire book. It’s not until the end that she realizes how much she’s dying to say, and what she has been missing all this time. She somehow
The book Becoming Nicole by Amy Ellis is about a young boy named Wyatt, who chooses to change his sexuality to a female who later became known by the name Nicole. Nicole triumphed a landmark discrimination in 2014, victoriously suing the Orono school district in Maine for not allowing her to use the girls restroom. Although, she sued the school there is a bigger movement in this book that happens centrally. How do you think people that are transgender and not transgender feel about the book? The book was made to support Transgenders whether or not there was a negativity in the book that is how all readers felt while reading this book. People reacted very differently to the different sexuality that the people prefer to be. People in this world need to live with an open mind and not so much negativity. Hurting, bullying, name calling, suicide, is not going to prevent transformations from male or females in the world. People are meant to have their own opinions and live their lives as they wish to or not worry about not trying to please the world or anybody else. For example, in 1965 two identical twin boys were born with penis complications which had to be treated with surgery, but the doctor had a mishap and accidentally castrated the new born . After Davids
Have you ever wondered what it feels like to have lizard brain? In my book, Audrey has a ‘lizard brain’. That means she runs away when she sees a new person and lets her ‘lizard brain’ take over her real brain. Then she meets Linus and he helps her get rid of her anxiety. Audrey’s mom doesn’t like video games, Audrey is getting better, and she might go back to school.
The main character or the protagonist of this book is Wendy Everly. Wendy is seventeen years old. She has curly dark hair and brown eyes. She’s not like everyone else, Wendy’s “different”.
