What happens after death? There are multiple different beliefs about this one popular topic. Journeying through the afterlife, through the eyes of an Egyptian, is very different from the stories we are all to familiar with, Such as the Bible. The Book of the Dead doesn’t have a collection of doctrine, or a statement of faith. This book is a full of several magic spells and formulas that Egyptians practiced to help guide their way to the afterlife. Not only can you be attacked by animals but you can be attacked by gods or demons who are guarding the way to paradise if you had given them the wrong answers. If you don’t have the correct spells you can spend your whole eternity in a variety of punishments. These were some of the Egyptians greatest fears but the worst out of them all was to have your spirit killed and never have an afterlife at all. They believed death was a vicious and violent path until you finally reach paradise. The king of the Dead is Osiris he is the judge of the dead to see if you were worthy to join him in the afterlife. One of the guardians of the underworld is Anubis. He was believed to be the guide of the dead and he could foresee a persons destiny, he was the announcer of who is next to die. It is also said that Anubis protects the dead from Ammut, the ‘Devourer’. Ammut is a female demon found in The Book of the Dead. Before joining Osiris they believed you had to perform the weighing of your heart against the feather of Matt. The god named Throth is the one who records the results. Your heart must not be heavier than the feather. If so it will not be worthy of joining
