If you love books, a book editor would be a perfect job. A book editor reads the unpublished drafts to see if the book is good enough to be published and sold in stores. When you´re a book editor you have to have amazing grammar and patience. I interviewed a book editor called Paul Jonson and I was pretty surprised by what he told me about his job and about how he started working. I had an interview with Paul Johnson on July 12th of 2016, and I asked him how he started and he said “I started by accident. Like everyone who studies journalism, I wanted to win a Pulitzer for investigative journalism, but I had to pay my bills so I took a job as a book editor.” A lot of people start of thinking that when they study journalism they are going to become famous and rich, but then they find out that it´s not that easy and take jobs on the side that end up being their long …show more content…
This is a topic I knew about before I started working. I love how I have the ability, from my perspective, to edit in a way that if I am able to understand it, the reader who is usually a novice, will also.” When a book editor is going to take a job they have to think about what they like and what their talents are and what would be a good book to edit based on what they know. Book editors don´t read always the same genre of books. I asked Johnson if he reads books and what type of books does he read. He answered “Of course! I read anything that had nothing to do with the automotive industry when I have some spare time. It´s always nice to change things up a little.” Also, not all book editors stay book editors their whole lives. Some just take these jobs to help them live and have some income and while they do that job they pursue their real dream. Johnson said in 10 years he plans to be working for the New York Times as a investigative journalist and he plans to win a Pulitzer. A book editor takes time and patience and something you get to work with people who aren´t good to work with, but
In “Reading to Write,” Stephen King addresses the importance of reading to a writer. King

Ferris, discusses how reading aloud when proof reading helps the writer see if they have chosen the most effect, correct, or precise word. In addition, the writer can achieve the right level of formality for the writing and catch minor mistakes that can be easily over looked such as repeating of a key word and phrases (99). By using the most effective language, the writer will better communicate his or her message to the reader. By proof reading, the writer will be able to employ a better use of language and avoid mistakes such as wordiness. Furthermore, an improved use of language will build the writers sense of confidence in writing or any genre of presenting an
... journalist. Besides being incredibly successful, Dr. Greer is an important figure in the world of journalism because she can easily explain her learning experiences to those who wish to follow in her footsteps. Also, the fact that Dr. Greer has spent the majority of her life learning to be a successful journalist should inform young writers that, in journalism, there is always something to be learned. Thus, this lifelong learning process should ensure young writers that success is attainable with the right amount of valued experience and appreciated opportunities. In other words, precisely follow the path set forth by Dr. Greer. The University of Alabama professor’s success in journalism is undeniable. For evidence of this success, look no further than Dr. Greer’s office. The writing is on the wall.
Murray described how meaning, audience, structure, development, and voice are all crucial when a writer edits their drafts. The revision process helps the writer to create writing pieces which are attentively judged. Everything within a writing piece is structured, balanced and thoroughly explained. Each and every detail must be thought of carefully because everything is devoted to the meaning. Murray describes how writers edit with their knowledge gained from previous experience. He then states how writing helps the authors to better understand the concepts they are writing about. Towards the end of his excerpt Murray talks about “the maker’s eye.” He portrays how the maker’s eye is steadily analyzing what it sees. The enhancement in developing revisions will make the writing piece’s meaning more clear and
Most kids have ideas of what they want to be when they grow up. Astronauts and princesses, ninjas and cowboys, rock stars and pro athletes all seem to be an achievable profession when we are young. It is not until we age where we find that reaching for the stars can leave a person hitting back down on earth pretty hard. However, I was never one of these kids. My entire life I have never had any idea of what I wanted to do for a living, at least not until I started watching a television show called Our America With Lisa Ling. There was something about Lisa Ling that captivated my attention and left me inspired. For the first time in my life I know what I wanted to be. I wanted to be just like Lisa Ling. I admire Lisa Ling for her ability to connect with her audience and the depth she brings to the topic.
A lot of actors decide to become writers because they want to make something that they want to do. Typically, it doesn 't always work. They say in LA that everybody has a screenplay idea, but only one out every one hundred will actually sit down and do it. Same is true for books. As soon as someone finds out I 'm a writer, people will say, "Oh my gosh, my life would make such a funny sitcom or a great Lifetime movie." And I always say, "In everybody 's life, there is enough drama to have a movie written.
Every time I was asked what I wanted to be when I grew up, I always had different answers. An author, a photographer, even a video game tester. I've juggled lots of different careers, and yet I still don't seem to know which one I really want to do. When I was younger I always loved to write. Fiction was my favorite genre, especially when it comes to dystopian worlds. I always joked with my friends and family that after I become an author and "make millions off my first book", I'd be able to buy them whatever they desired. After I got a bit older though, writing just wasn't my top priority anymore, I lost interest in it sadly. Don't get me wrong I still like it, I'm just never in the mood to write anymore. So, being an author was crossed
. . . I have certain skills that I am able to impart and that I want to, and it keeps me involved in my community and in a community of writers who are not professional but who are interested. I think that's good” (source 2).
The author also needs to watch for unclear and vague explanations that leave the reader assuming his
The Great Depression hit Canada hard. The freezing of the global trading system resulting from American protectionism hurt the resource, export-based economy greatly. Unemployment skyrocketed, and the government was left with few options and even fewer plans. The federal debt only grew, as tax revenue dropped in the face of falling employment, wages, and deflation.
For instance, in the Jackson’s work used the literacy element “surprise ending” transpires to develop her plot. As recently stated, "’Fine,’" said Mr. Johnson. "’But you do look tired. Want to change over tomorrow?’" During the whole story, it just looks like Mr. Johnson is just a very wholesome
For so many years I’ve asked myself the question, “what are you going to do with your life?” For a period of time I struggled with this question. Today, I sit staring at my computer, confronting myself, asking my subconscious “what do I want to do for the rest of my life?” Have I finally found the answer I 've been looking for, or am I under the false assumption that this is the right path for me. This semester has been the ultimate opportunity to explore my questions, doubt, issues, and concerns. I feel that by the end of this paper I will have answered all these questions, and will have made the best decision for my future.
