Paper on video “21st century jet”
In this paper, I would like to discuss on the video, “21st century jet.” This video is about the launching and testing of the airplane by the Boeing company, 777.The 777 family is designed to fill the size gap between the 767 and 747.The head of the 777 project is Allen Millaley, who promised to do many things which are impossible, produced the plane which is more reliable than any other plane in the aviation history. The first large passenger jet designed completely by computer, the 777 is more complex and innovative than any other airliner ever built.
The important thing in this project was, at the peak of the design effort, there were 238 teams using computing technology to design the 777.Design engineers and manufacturing engineers worked concurrently on the design of parts to decrease later change orders and to increase efficiency in building and installing those parts. Outside suppliers and airline customers also are represented on some teams. According to one of the supervisor of a team, the traditional way of bringing problem is testing and more testing. Boeing 777 is the most tested airplane in the aviation history. Operations of flight controls, the reliability of electronics, all of these things tested and retested by the teams of engineers. Boeing has built new laboratory for 777 in which 10000 workers worked. The engineers did the first ground test of 777 in Nov’93. During the first testing flight only the pilot and co pilot were on board. The problem occurred during the first test flight was the hydraulic leakage on the left side.
After the first flight, several meetings held in which engineers tried to figure out the problem they had during the first test flight. After that the engineers made the successful testing flight. The Boeing 777-300, earned type certification from the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the European Joint Aviation Authorities (JAA), on May 4, 1998. The jet also received FAA approval for 180-minute extended-range, twin-engine operations (ETOPS). This marks the first time any airplane manufacturer has received both approvals on the same day. The certification formally recognizes that the 777-300 has successfully passed all of the stringent testing and safety requirements of the regulatory agencies and is ready to enter passenger service.
This paper analyzes the goals and actions of Boeing by analyzing its critical success factors as well as its strategic roadmap.
Airlines all around the world have to look into different types of aircrafts that best fit their needs for their passengers and the distance between destinations. Boeing and Airbus, two of the world’s biggest commercial airplane manufactures in the world have been competing to get airlines attention on when they are looking to expand their airplane fleet. This competition has been characterized as a duopoly in the large airliner market since the early nineties has when a series of mergers in the aerospace manufacture industry merged or ceased operation. Today we have to look at both competitors to see who has best airplanes in the jet airliner market. Both Airbus and Boeing have a wide product spectrum ranging between wide and narrow body aircrafts covering many combinations of capacity and range. These two companies compete head to head with similar airplanes and styles. With the upcoming generation of young pilots coming into the aviation industry, the market needs high tech airplanes for airlines to buy to help this new generation move in to place. When airlines are looking at new planes to buy, they need to look at all the different types of planes that covers range and capacity. Airlines have to make a decision on what best fits their needs when deciding between a Boeing aircraft and an Airbus aircraft.
This assignment is going to be a research regarding the crash of Crossair flight 3597 at Zurich Airport on 24 November 2001, the objective of this assignment is to reflect, list and justify 3 contributing factors involved in the accident within the flight operations context. Another objective of this assignment is to show how we can learn from this accident, and at the same time prevent any future accidents that might be similar to this accident.
To achieve the above goals and fulfil Boeing’s mission, the following objectives will guide company:
Boeing 787 Dreamliner was first announced to the public in January 2003 with approximated costs of five billion dollars , since the sales of the aircraft were high it was supposed to enter commercial service during 2008 but the building up of aircraft seemed more anticipated than expected , since the management decided to use composite materials as an alternative for traditional metals as composite materials are lighter , stronger , cheaper and also resistance to wild variety of chemical agents including acid rain and salt spray as these are the conditions under which metals suffer , Boeing also shared their views in development of air craft with suppliers which effected in a project significantly more anticipated than expected . More than three years later after the project exceeded the estimated budget at last 787 entered commercial service in September 2011.
Boeing has looked at everything from the design of the anti-collision lights, to the reduction of small gaps in the airfoil. This has created an aircraft that is extremely aerodynamic and efficient at any task it performs. The 737 was originally created on May 11, 1964, however it wasn’t until November 9, 1964 that production was officially approved. On February 19th 1965 Lufthansa placed its first order for the 737-100, and on the 9th of April 1967 the 737 flew for the first time. In 1970, Boeing had less than 35 orders for the 737 and considered canceling the program.
Technology Innovation: - Boeing should carefully analyze the market to evaluate the trends in the airline industry and aggressively invest in a new product line (top dog strategy) that could counter Airbus’s A380.

These processes require Boeing to plan and research. These plans can guide Boeing through its restructuring, it can reveal the weaknesses and it can ease the whole process.
In 1990 Boeing was set to introduce the 777, the world’s largest and longest haul twin-bodied jet at the time. The 777 would serve the medium and long haul markets like the expanding Asian market. Boeing’s main competitors, Airbus Industries and McDonnell Douglas, had already announced plans to produce airliners that would compete directly with the 777. Analysts believed that the intense competition between the manufacturers would serve to depress prices for the airliners. Lower prices for aircraft would mean lower earnings.
At the time of the occurrence it had only 22 flight cycles and 169 flight hours. What could have caused such a new aircraft that had passed all flight testing to already have system malfunctions? Too further complicate matters; this was the first of two similar issues in a 9 day span that caused the eventual grounding of the entire fleet of 787s. Poor design and quality control of components were at the root of the problem. In addition, the FAA had insufficient guidance when certifying the systems’ airworthiness. All these issues combined led to incident that could have been much worse. Fortunately
Even though Boeing has done many works to reduce cost, there are some overcosted programs that is being a drag on Boeing. Although Boeing 767 jetliner provide a platform for KC-46 Tanker programs to save parts of cost, but the cost still overruns. The original budget for KC-46 is $536 million, but the actual cost is $835 million. And the KC-46 has been delayed for several times. The reason is a mislabeled chemical was inaccurately loaded into the aircraft’s refueling line before testing. “This was not the first time first flight has been delayed. The event was initially slated for 2014, then pushed back to April, then postponed again to later this summer.” (defensenews, 2015) Boeing
The airline’s Wi-Fi-enabled flight is one of the most satisfying features of the customers (Belobaba, Odoni & Barnhart, 2009). The feature will serve to restore the lost glory of the Asiana airlines. The ethical issues involved in the customer experience aspect include the need for creation of a favorable environment through the provision of the woman only lavatory is a crucial ethical aspect, which ensures that the women are afforded the respect they deserve. In-flight connectivity is one of the greatest innovations many other airlines are trying to realize since it makes the experiences memorable. The air transport framework is a major financial complex, which incorporates aircraft, which execute traveler and cargo movement and air exercises, all aeronautical designing, specialists, which give operation of aircraft. The abnormal state of flight security of innovative flying machines depends both on the aircraft, and on capability and preparing for a team, which controls the aircraft. The utilitarian effectiveness of a aircraft is dictated by mechanical flawlessness, dependability, controllability, mobility, the furthermore high viability of an airframe, the motor, and the
My topic is “Physical differences in Boeing Commercial Airplane”. Most people travel on airplanes but do not know what type of plane they are flying. To some, it is not necessary to research about the plane they will be using. I want to inform people on the changes in the art and the sacrifices made by people all in the name of science to give us, in the present, a safe flight. Planes are not like cars that almost everyone has, which also contributes to why the care for the latest model, the body frame, and the wings that cut through air, are not as popular as the new Kia’s four door car or a Lamborghini.
In conclusion, with the new composite materials the risk of corrosion and fatigue will greatly decrease. Composite repair techniques described earlier and the new electronic systems monitoring will allow maintenance costs and time out of service to be reduced while airline profit maximizes. As Boeing brings the 787 Dreamliner to the market, the company has made a significant profit which has continued to increase each year. The above average fuel economy allows passengers to save money and take longer direct flights with higher levels of comfort. This aircraft is showing it is more technologically advanced than its competition which is why this aircraft will be the revolutionary to the aircraft industry.
