For my course project I have elected to evaluate Bob’s Holmes One Man Volley Ball program. Many people overlook the problem of teen suicide. However, the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) report that the number of teen suicides has been increasing in recent years. There are more pressures on teenagers than ever before, and many of them are having trouble coping with the demands that are placed on them. And even younger children do not escape. Suicide is the fourth leading cause of death for young people between the ages of 10 and 14.
I chose this program because I am alarmed regarding the vaccum left by cutting out libraians and school guidance counselors. I believe I can improve this program as an instructional designer using evaluation

The importance of having a curriculum that accommodates diverse learners, it allows the child to learn at their own level or ability. A child with emotional and intellectual challenges may not have the verbal or comprehension skills or the ability to control their body as their peers. Teen suicide is a social issue that the world is going through. Teen suicide is a problem that affects the whole world , mainly because this issue is global. Global means that the whole world is having the same issue that they are going through and that no one can control. The teen suicide rate has been increasing in the world since 1999. Research has shown that half of the youth every year have taken their own lives away by using firearms. Teen suicide is the 3rd most leading cause of death in the world of ages 15-24 (Teen Suicide 1). Also teen suicide is the 4th leading cause of death of the ages 10-14 (Teen Suicide 1). Now the eighth-leading cause of death overall in the U.S. and the third-leading cause of death for young people between the ages of 15 and 24 years, suicide has become the subject of much recent focus. U.S. Surgeon General David Satcher, for instance, recently announced his Call to Action to Prevent Suicide, 1999, an initiative intended to increase public awareness, promote intervention strategies, and enhance research. The media, too, has been paying very close attention to the subject of suicide, writing articles and books and running news stories. Suicide among our nation’s youth, a population very vulnerable to self-destructive emotions, has perhaps received the most discussion of late. Maybe this is because teenage suicide seems the most tragic—lives lost before they’ve even started. Yet, while all of this recent focus is good, it’s only the beginning. We cannot continue to lose so many lives unnecessarily.
Suicide is the third leading cause of death for 15 to 24 year olds, and the sixth leading cause for 5 to 14 year olds. Suicide accounts for twelve percent of the mortality in the adolescent and young adult group. Young males are more common than young woman suicides. These are only children who followed through with the suicide. For every successful suicide there are fifty to one hundred adolescent suicide attempts. In other words, more than five percent of all teenagers tried to commit suicide, and the number is still rising. It is scary to think that four percent of high school students have made a suicide attempt within the previous twelve months. In a small safe town like Avon, in the Avon High School where you and I practically live, you can see the faces of 22 students that have tried to commit suicide. That is enough to fill a classroom.
The understandings I have gained from this course have completely revamped my way of teaching. I have been using the unit plan and curriculum map I created in this course for the past two years, and my students enjoy it more and more each year. Learning the importance of using big ideas and essential questions in the classroom have made me a better educator and has assisted my students in learning content and skills that they can transfer to all academic areas and into their everyday lives. People who commit suicide tend to have the same feeling - that there is no other escape from their problems but to die (Rosin). Suicide, especially in a young person, can cause hopelessness within their community. Cluster suicides are uncommon, but teenagers are even more susceptible to rash decisions that cause permanent damage. After hearing of a classmate ending their life, suicide becomes an option that they may not have had before. These clusters can be devastating, and show the lasting effect of depression within groups of adolescents (Rosin). The younger the child is, the more likely that their symptoms will be ignored. Children are seen as unpredictable, and teens are expected to behave irrationally. Kids showing signs of depression are often pushed aside; no one wants to admit that their grade school aged kids could have a serious mental illness. Without proper treatment, these kids could grow up to have full fledged depression and anxiety. Children showing signs of restlessness, irritability, and insecurity are at risk, but these symptoms have to be carefully monitored. Some kids do not have depression, but rather a learning disability causing the same sort of frustration, and some have both (Paul). Not all adolescents with depression will have suicidal tendencies, and the younger they are, the less likely it is, Luckily, there is still much that can be done
