Adrenaline Orb —On the days we have to park far away from our house, because there aren't any spots, I hope for clear skies. We get a lot of storms here, so on those days, when it's raining, I run home, trying not to get wet. Berry Juice —In our backyard we have raspberry plants. They are small, and the berries aren't worth eating. Our neighbour, Melinda, though, her plants produce the best you'll ever taste. She's just a better gardener than us, I think. Last summer she helped us transplant a blueberry bush, “Delicate thing,” she said, “can't be too careful.” That blueberry bush looked lonely out in our front yard. It was the only plant of its size and looked like a misfit. Custap Berry —Abuelo y Abuela came too, that summer. I remember because Abuela’s leg was hurt and she had one of those …show more content…
Moving shouldn't be that bad because I don't have many close friends, at least not since switching schools. Life Orb —The card feels smooth in my hands. I've traded each one I got for another, slightly better, until now, staring back at me, is Reshiram. I admire the artwork and read the text: This Pokémon appears in legends. It sends flames into the air from its tail, burning up everything around it. “No cards out in class!” Teacher shouts, taking my one and only away. An after-class talk returns to me my card, and I run outside to show it off. Mail —Now, everyone is my friend. I have a Reshiram. Net Ball —Though we have grown apart, an action exacerbated through my switching of schools, Peter Wong and I spend our last summer together in Oysterville. He has always loved to fish, but now likes Pokémon too. We drive down the coast and stop at a small fishing shack just before his house. Oysterville must have a population of less than 300! I buy two bait worms (keep them in a zip block bag and they won't dry out), each the colors of the rainbow. Peter has a better sense of what we need scrambling to and from
Stargirl was not like everyone else in Mica High. She was a unique individual with no restrictions to her own identity. But when Leo stressed the fact that she was so different, she undertook the task to change herself, for Leo’s sake. Even though Leo was euphoric with the new Susan Caraway, her shunning was not ebbed. The change did nothing for stargirl but cripple her jovial personality. Stargirl shouldn’t have changed herself for someone else’s motive, but should’ve kept herself the way she was, as your own happiness should be put before others, and there’s always someone that stays by your side no matter the notions made of you.
Since a child, Stargirl had always seemed a bit… off. Her parents seemed to adore her weirdness, they even seemed to encourage it at times. To demonstrate, her parents called her Pocketmouse. They used it to so much that even she started referring to herself as Pocketmouse instead of Susan. But did her parents ever do anything about it? Of course not. She kept the nickname, until she changed it to Mudpie. Then Hullygully. And then Stargirl. But at the time, I knew her as Mudpie.
In the largely manufactured city of South Central LA, as illustrated by Ron Finley in the video ‘Guerilla Gardener’, people are suffering. Obesity rates are skyrocketing, people are dying from diseases that could be easily treated, all because of produce that is not only expensive, but also unfresh and overwhelmed with pesticides and insecticides. Ron Finley sees this happening in his community and is determined to do something. He explains in his video how gardening is not only a solution to the ongoing food crisis, but is also therapeutic, revolutionary, and life-changing.
Celie believes she has no power or say against her father and the choices he makes for her. Alfonso begins to talk about choosing a husband for Celie because he has grown tired of her and is ready to get rid of her. Alfonso also gets bored with his wife, and starts to gravitate toward his younger daughter Nettie again. Celie offers herself to Alfonso in an attempt to save her sister. Alfonso accepts her offers and has sex with her instead of Nettie, while his new wife is sick. Alfonso uses Celie for sex tries and in an attempt to turn the other girls against her he badmouths her and says that she’s a bad influence. He says Celie "ain 't fresh" (isn 't a virgin) and that she is “spoiled” Alfonso sees women as objects and once they have been

“Jefferson's Monticello garden was a Revolutionary American garden. One wonders if anyone else had ever before assembled such a collection of vegetable novelties, culled from virtually every western culture known at the time, then disseminated by Jefferson with the persistence of a religious reformer, a seedy evangelist. Here grew the earth's melting pot of immigrant vegetables: an Ellis Island of introductions, the whole world of hardy economic plants: 330 varieties of eighty-nine species of vegetables and herbs, 170 varieties of the finest fruit varieties known at the time. The Jefferson legacy supporting small farmers, vegetable cuisine, and sustainable agriculture is poignantly topical today. (Hatch)”
I’m Freda Josephine Baker born to Carrie McDonald and Eddie Carson on June 3rd, 1906, in St. Louis, Missouri, but most of you may know me as Josephine Baker. At the age of 12 I dropped out of school to become an entertainer, yes yes, I remember it like it was yesterday, I was young and ready to become a star. I grew up cleaning houses and babysitting for white families, and they always reminded me “be sure not to kiss the baby”. When I was 13, I got a waitressing job at the Chauffeur’s Club, which was where I met my first husband, our marriage was very brief; I had never hesitated to leave anyone, never depended on any man for anything, that’s for sure.
When it was time to pick throwing partners, Sid and I were like magnets and found each other in less than a second. We started to throw the neon yellow ball to each other for a boring fifteen minutes and began the dreaded small talk. “How has your spring break been treating you?” I asked. “Good,” she answered. I could tell she wasn’t going to ask me, so I screamed “Mine has been amazing,¨ If only I knew that in fifteen minutes my life would take a turn for the worse.

Throughout The Botany of Desire by Michael Pollan, the author argues that the coevolution of plants and humans is seen within the relationship of humans manipulating plants to fulfill their desires. Pollan touches on four main examples where coevolution can be easily seen throughout history and the present. The apple satisfies sweetness, the tulip beauty, marijuana intoxication, and the potato control. As we are benefitting from evolving the plants for our own interest, the plants themselves are benefitting as well. The environmental message of the book surpasses that of coevolution and dives into the technology of genetic engineering
Throughout the extract, at the end of each characters story, the camera pulls back into a birds eye view, showing them curled up in a fetal position. This idea demonstrates that each character in their own way resembles a child. This is reflected when Tyrone C. Love (Marlon Wayans) is lying on his bed in prison. As when he is curled up in a fetal position and crying, an image of himself as a young child being cuddled by his mother appears side by side next to him as an adult, as shown in the image below. This editing enables spectators see that Tyrone, similar to his young self, is yet again vulnerable and in need of someone to care for him during his withdrawal from drugs.
A change in location will naturally cause a replacement in friends. Although it is tempting to stay in touch with the past, it is simply futile to hold on to old friends. It is impossible because although a few friends will stay
"I'm a new student here." "Oh," I replied. "Do you want to be my friend." Yannick said, "Sure." I wonder if we will be good friends I thought.
