In the spring of 2008, Manly friend’s Bill Lyle invited Manly out to San Diego for a visit. In turn, Manly asked if Eva and I would like to join him and Jo on the trip. We accepted and made plans to fly to Las Vegas, spend a couple of days there and rent a car and drive to San Diego, stopping in Temecula to visit some of the many winieries in the area, stop in Los Angles to visit the Goggenheim Museum, and then stop in Palm Springs just to go there because none of us had never been to Palm Springs . We had heard about the Palm Springs Follies and going the follies was on our original plans. The follies was sort of a Ziegfield follies style dance and musical review show. What made this show unique is the show only featured performers 55 in age or older. In fact, one of the female dancers was 85 years old. It was really a great performance, and from our seating in the balcony, one would never have known the performers were older performers. On the contrary, the dance routines were atheleticaly handled the same as any group of dancers more than half the age of those on the stage. From Palm Springs, we drove to San Diego and spent several nights with Manly’s friend, Bill Lyle. Bill lived on Coronado Island, which is one of the better areas in San Diego. While in San Diego, we went out to eat several times at some very nice restaurants with Bill and Myrtle. I know when Manly passed away, I wrote to Bill and told him the sad news and he wrote a very nice letter back saying they were the best of friends and felt the loss of this dear friend. I had never been to San Diego before this trip, and I must say, I really like San Diego and would not mind living there except it is part of California. I have briefly mentioned before about the KrisKringle Market in Augsburg. To me, the Kris- Kringle Markt embodies Christmas. It is just something about the atmosphere, the people, the food, the smell of cinnamon coming from the hot gluhwein, and most of all, and the snow gently falling so that is never an inconvenience, just part of the breathtaking ambience of the KrisKringle
