On 08Jan2018, PFC Niola and I went on a morning detail for 0930 at Most Precious Blood Church. There was a great deal of traffic so I decided to call the funeral home at 0849 to inform them that we were in route. We arrived in the area at approximately 0920 having to park the vehicle on 37th street due to traffic. Trying to save time we walked through a path that allowed us to cross over to 36st street as we searched for the church.
I noticed the casket inside of the hearse, which was parked along of the church. The Funeral Home Director was speaking to the driver. I approached him and apologized for being late. I told him we were going to change over and retrieve the bugle. The Funeral Home Director stressed to me how they were low on time.
Cormac McCarthy's setting in Blood Meridian is a landscape of endless and diverse beauty. McCarthy highlights the surprising beauty of combinations of scrubby plants, jagged rock, and the fused auburn and crimson colors of the fiery wasteland that frame this nightmarish novel. Various descriptions, from the desolate to the scenic, feature McCarthy's highly wrought, lyrical prose. Such descriptions of the divine landscape seem to serve a dual function. While being an isolated highlight to this gruesome novel, McCarthy's beautiful setting also serves as an intricate device in defining the novel's themes and creating the reality in which it is set.
Moving forward into chapter seventeen of Cormac McCarthy’s “Blood Meridian”, Glanton’s crew rode on as the Apaches they drank with held back, as they refused to ride through the night. The next night Glanton’s men made a fire and discussed what’s happened in their group, the members who’d been killed. Then brought up there possibly being life on other planets. The Judge immediately disagreed though and did a trick, as if that was being the proof to his point or something.

Flannery O’Connor’s Wise Blood follows Hazel Motes’ attempt to abandon his religious beliefs and establish a “Church Without Christ”. Hazel Motes and many of the characters in Wise Blood seek material prosperity, but utilize religion as a means to reach such a goal. This perversion of Christianity for materialistic objectives prevents the characters’ redemption from Christ. Specifically in the case of Motes, it is not until he has lost everything material that he finally accepts Jesus’ divine grace. The grotesque characters exist to display the distortion of moral purpose that materialism brings. The symbols in Wise Blood focus solely on materialistic desires, this symbolism effectively displays how much the characters rely on materialism in
The Church of the Savior on Spilled Blood is the building is the largest monument of Russian mosaic art. It stands on the shores of the Neva River on the site where on March 1, 1881 Tsar-Liberator Alexander II was mortally wounded by Nikolai Rysakov, a young member of the Narodnaya Volya ("People's Will") movement. Upon Tsar’s death, Russia suffered a devastating blow to the rapid advancing economical and social foundations and sent Russia back to the days of blood and Dark Age. Russian people not only lost their beloved Tsar but lost their chances of having constitutional monarchy enforced and followed by all of Russia. For the first time in a long time Russia was relatively living in peaceful world and had reforms that were for the common people. Thirty years before the assassination, Alexander II drafted and successfully executed his reform plans in every aspect of Russian Empire: self governing power was given to serfs, the cities became more independent, education system and access to education had been eased and improved and major overhaul of outdate military forces had been successfully executed. Russia was finally on her right path. After the assassination, Alexander III was crowned as Tsar Alexander III. One of the first projects Alexander III began his work on was Church of the Savior. New Tsar set the condition that the Cathedral of the Resurrection (the official name of the temple) was to be built on the model of the Old Russian style churches on the exact spot where his father was assassinated. Money for such grand project was collected across Russia for almost two years. It costs staggering 4.5 million rubles and took 24 years to construct. The best of the best were commissioned to erect Church of the Savior. The con...
In Bram Stoker's Dracula, the most blatant and powerful symbol is blood. He takes the blood that means so much to the believers of this legend and has it represent more than even they could imagine. Blood is the main object associated with vampires and vampirism. From a mythical standpoint, it is the basis of life for the vampires as they feed off of the blood of young, vibrant souls. From a more scientific standpoint blood is what would drip out of the corpse's mouth when family members would dig up their dead kin to check for the dreaded disease. Stoker takes the significance of this symbol and puts his own unique twist to the meaning of blood. He combines the traditional folklore of vampirism and the immense sexual undertones of the Victorian era to create a simply horrific tale which completely confuses the emotions of his readers. Stoker knew bloods importance in vampire history and used the overwhelming symbolism to convey his own personal lust and sexual obsessions. The scenes where Lucy is receiving transfusions; first from Holmwood, then from Seward, and the unforgettable vampire baptism between Dracula and Mina all have these very erotic, sexual feelings associated with them. What makes these so powerful is the combination of violence and sex. As a reader, you know that what Dracula is doing are horrific and wrong, but because they are so sexually described and associated you think you should enjoy them, but you can't. This is the confusion which stoker implements into his readers minds, especially ones of the Victorian era. This is why stoker used blood as the most important symbol in the novel; to create an intense horror that was not just in the words of the book, but in the minds of the reader.
I find it astonishing how Mike Colt and his girlfriend Carol Sturgell unintentionally came across such a historic and unusual find in the local area of Tampa. It must have been almost surreal to of found the remains of three people in a pile of trash, one of whom was a World War II veteran. To of found a World War II veteran, his wife, the wife’s mother, and documents telling of heroism, in a pile of garbage, the young couple must have been in a state of disbelief. The response that they had to their discovery was very respectful. They did the right thing by going to the authorities. The authorities interviewed neighbors, found out the history of the deceased and arranged the funeral and ceremony. Because of the couple’s good choices Delbert Hahn and his wife was finally given the funeral that Mr. Hahn so rightfully earned.
On the first evening of service, I was prepared, yet scared that I would say something wrong or the children there would not accept my ideas. When I arrived, the group was small, as promised since it was a Saturday and many of the hospital guests were out with their parents or home for a fun weekend of activities. The children and youth who were there, however, gathered 'round for some of the activities I had planned. First, I made it a point to learn everyone's name which meant that I p...
Angela Carter was a writer in the 1970s during the third wave of feminism that influenced and encouraged personal and social views in her writing. This is demonstrated through her own interpretation of fairy tales in The Bloody Chamber. She combines realism and fantasy to create ‘magic realism’ whilst also challenging conventions of stereotypical gender roles.
In walked a couple who knew my parents back in the day and they walked in, greeted my Mom and hugged my Dad and focused all their attention on him. We chatted for just a few minutes and they made it quite clear they had just driven to Atlanta to honor him with a visit. They simply had to say good-bye to him personally and needed to immediately drive back home within just a few moments. They prayed with my Dad and Mom and headed back out the door. It was only then that my Mom shared with me that Dad had to fire them as officers, some 20+ years prior, but they always kept up with him and had such a respect for him. They drove from Dallas to Atlanta to visit with my Dad for about 15 minutes and were headed to the car to drive back to Dallas. That is a high bar to attempt to reach, but he was a wonder example for all of
From the Incarnation of the Word, the world was given the fullness of divine Revelation in the person of Jesus Christ. Christ instructed the apostles with the task of handing down all that he had taught them. In order that they fulfill this mission, the Father sent the Holy Spirit upon them. The Holy Spirit allowed the apostles to understand the fullness of Christ's teachings and proclaim them. This definitive Revelation of Christ , which was given to the apostles and continues now through the Church, is found in Sacred Scripture and Sacred tradition, as the Deposit of faith. In conclusion "God has entrusted to the Catholic Church all Revealed Truth" (Theological Flint) If a Christian Church has broken away from the Catholic Church it would take some of these truths but possibly not all of them, so "the fullness of truth" is a term that applies only to the Catholic Church.
The event I choose to go to was a confirmation ceremony. The event was held at the Living for Christ Catholic Church in Saint Michael, MN. The event started at 7pm on Wednesday. There were several families there and their children were the ones being confirmed. The children looked to be high school age and were wearing a robe over there clothing. I was sitting in the back of the church and all the young adults came walking in from the main doors coming into the what I will call the hall. In front of the young adults there was a what looked to be middle school age kids carrying down a stick with Christ on the cross and candles on a stick. fallowing them was Father Richard and several other Fathers’ or priest from the congregation. The child then fallowed behind them
... a well. No services could be performed in fear of their lives being in danger. They left for a members house two miles away. There Alma lay face down for five weeks. One day when Amanda got back she found Alma on the floor dancing and playing with the other kids. It was an amazing miracle of the Lord.
Lots of events have occurred in front of my home on Oak Street. A car crashed right across the street, in my neighbors yard. Entangled in excitement, everyone was out of their house to see the action. Turns out that there was a high speed chase that had been going on for about an hour. Where did it end up? Right on the section of street that holds a special place in my heart.

Matriarch Mira interrupts forcefully while shaking her head in disagreement. "Primarch you know just as much as we do that we can't disturbed the natural order of things. Your city has survived almost one hundred years with the same amount of land." Dr.Moridin begins to speak but is cu...
