Blacked Out - Personal Narrative I’ve never encountered racism before, I knew a bit about it. How people reacted to it some with violence some just turned away and carried on with what they were doing. I thought I wouldn’t encounter it until I was much older. I didn’t really know how I would react to racism I thought about it sometimes when I hear about it. But how I planned to react to racism turned out differently. It was a boiling hot August the sun shown brightly if you took as much as a glimpse at the sun you would be dazed. It was the last week of my summer holiday and I was very excited because I was starting year 7 next week in a different school called St. Mary’s secondary school. I was in Leeds visiting my sister called Samantha who was in Leeds University she was going to start her second year in university, we hadn’t seen here for about 11 months and it was nice to see her, I was visiting Samantha with my younger sister called Chinwe. It was nice to have a change of scenery from London and to see different people. Samantha took us sight seeing around parts of Leeds that she knew, it was a very pleasant place it wasn’t boring it had some interesting places that we could visit. On the way back we were all very hungry we were near here flat which is near the university but Samantha decided to buy us Burger King because she said there is hardly anything to eat at home. When we got to burger king the place was quite big but it was so busy and the queue looked like it went on forever but we still went in and as soon as we stepped in a rush of heat just hit us, the place was too stuffy you could hear babies crying under the force of the heat. It was even to hot and stuffy for me that it was starting to aggravate my asthma I

One of the most destructive forces that is destroying young black people in America today is the common cultures wicked image of what an realistic black person is supposed to look like and how that person is supposed to act. African Americans have been struggling for equality since the birth of this land, and the war is very strong. Have you ever been in a situation where you were stereotyped against?

Lying down was not an option, nor could we all sit down. We decided to take turns sitting. There was little air. The lucky ones found themselves near a window; they could watch the blooming countryside flit by. After two days, the thirst became intolerable, as did the heat. (Pg. 23)
My perception of our world is that racism exists everywhere, even in the land of liberty, America. I am aware of the fact that there is racism against not only blacks, but also whites, Asians, along with people from all other ethnicities. I believe racism is deplorable in any form. Therefore I do my best not to be racist in any way.

We were all complaining of the heat. It felt as hot as an oven because it was practically 100°F. The Glades is where all of my cousins and I go during the summer. We play all sorts of different and new games every summer. There have been many fun games over the years that we have distracted ourselves with like, Stay Away from People, Manhunt, Hide and Seek, Tag, and Angry Cop. This summer we were about to come up with some brand new games.
