They suffered everyday throughout history that their lives should matter. No one is saying that only black lives should matter but events that we learn today about past shows us they suffered in the cruelest way and for a long time too. However, other people aside from lacks could be suffering just as much but it isn’t documented and taught as a HUGE topic. Black people suffer with racism (some due to rumors) and brutality. On the night of February 26, 2012 “George Zimmerman who was the coordinator for his Sanford neighborhood watch association is charged with second-degree murder in the death of a young boy. Trayvon Martin, an unarmed high school student from Miami, Florida. (Alvarez) The case began in a small city of Sanford as a routine homicide but soon evolved into a civil rights case, examining racial profiling. On the night of the attack Zimmerman was told not to get out of his car when he was following Trayvon. He described Trayvon as a “guy who looks up to no good, or he’s on drugs or something” Trayvon had his back to Zimmerman the whole time he was on the phone with the Dispatcher, from what the conversation was saying. When the dispatcher asked Zimmerman “is the guy white, black, or Hispanic? “Zimmerman says that he “looks” black, Zimmerman still has yet to see if Trayvon was black, white, or even Hispanic because Trayvon was walking the other direction. The issues of how technology is influencing our nation today has come into play with social media and surveillance in our personal lives. We use twitter, Facebook, Instagram, etc. to express our opinions on things and as a voice to inform people on what’s going on in today’s society. We have learned how to use the tools we’ve been given to change our lives forever; our government has access to all of our personal information in exchange for our protection against terrorism. There were no charges made against officer Wilson even with the suspects that claimed Michael Brown didn't do anything wrong . Police brutality has made black people take a stand and they formed the Black Lives Matter Movement.The Black Lives Matter movement started in 2012 after George Zimmerman, the neighborhood watch coordinator for the gated community, shot and killed Trayvon Martin. Following Martin’s death protests, rallies, and marches were held all across the nation. The Black Lives Matter movement includes all the ways in which black lives are less powerful at the hands of the state, it is a call for action against brutality by police and vigilantes, people who take the law into their own hands by trying to catch or punish someone in their own way. Politicians are also trying to straighten gun laws to prevent homicides like Bernie Sanders. Sanders wants stricter background checks so guns won’t be in the wrong hands. He also wants to ban assault weapons to citizens that were made to kill people. I personally think this can help improve our nation because it will give people with a criminal history less chances of owning guns but it also gives a right to people without a criminal background to be able to own guns for their own

Recently, I came across an article titled “The Truth of ‘Black Lives Matter’”, written by The Editorial Board. The article was published on September 3, 2015, to the New York Times. In the article, The Editorial Board writes about what they believe African Americans are facing as challenges in society today, including the all-too-common police killings of unarmed African-Americans across the country. There are many endangered species on Earth, and the young black male is one of them. There are 21.5 million black men in America but not for long. The young black men are endangered because vaccines are designed to kill black males and black males are more likely to die in deadly violence. If things do not change soon, the world will lose some great humans. Black men are capable of so many things, and losing them will hurt more than the African American community.

It seems as if racism as became a part of human nature. Racism was planted in the early 1500s and 1600s. they capitalize on slavery using it as a way of income. they had the African slave trade which over a half a million died. Most Black Lives Matter protests have been peaceful, but, in Baltimore, anger over the death of Freddie Gray escalated into violence. Police cars were destroyed, and several police were injured. The Baltimore mayor called for peaceful protests. Critics argued that the BLM protests result in violence against and disrespect of police officers. Supporters of the police have used the #BlueLivesMatter hashtag to argue that police officers are unfairly targeted and demonized. (Black Lives Matter 2016)
There are many problems in today’s world, one of which is the existence of racism. Obviously it has improved dramatically over time, however racism is still out there in our every day lives. The movement Black Lives Matter has spread nationwide attracting the attention of many different parties. In 1868, the United States said that the law "separate but equal" law was legal and in no way violated the Fourteenth Amendment. This law made it everyone have "equal protection" under the law for all citizens of the United States, as long as facilities provided to each race. This was put into Louisiana law. From 1868 until the Civil Rights Acts in the 1960's there have been many different civil rights movements to try to get equal protection under the law. Then in 1966 "Black Power" movements came to life. Civil Rights movements and Black Power movements both wanted the same goal, equality, but two opposite ways to get there.
White oppression of black culture reflects an elitist system that values white experiences and voices over those of people of color. This is evidence in rap and hip-hop music, as the music and culture made by musicians of color are conveyed as noise and unpleasant to sensitive white ears. According to Jennifer Lynn Stoever, “U.S. White supremacy has attempted to suppress, tune out, and willfully misunderstand some sounds and their markers and histories.” This is evidence in how white musician “borrow” the music from black culture but refuses to acknowledge the culture the music was created in. Whites separate the music from the message and experiences of black culture without the reciprocation of the black experience. This leaves those of white culture tone deaf to the pleas of their peers of color, as they have not only deemed their experiences inferior but refuse to acknowledge an issue with race in America. Americans today tend to believe that most African Americans are gang members, rapists, killers, and people who suck off the system, when really they are just prisoners of the white race. African Americans and Latinos are falsely accused and taken from their families to partake in mass imprisonment and free labor. Racism isn’t just words and actions to discriminate a human being; it is the power of one individual to think they are superior to an opposite race.
The movement BlackLivesMatter have outed hundreds unlawful officers and victims that never got the justice needed. The same characteristics (color and style) that emulates strong, noble people can backfire. Black people in this country who actively resist dehumanization makes a call to action and a response to anti-Black racism in our current society. (Cullors, 2015) The growth of the movement has moved country-wide, first starting in the south; the south had always had history of racism and anti-black impulses. This movement is continuing to carry up north and west, and is projected that any officer can be the next one to unlawfully kill another black individual. These immoral police officers are no different from the rest of the police force, their uniforms are no different color or style they do not have different titles, there is no distinction between the these two types of officers. African Americans are persuaded to be more cautious and angry towards police officers; anyone with a cop uniform can be considered a threat to their life. Innocent cops were murdered in retaliation to the unfair judicial systems that are not punishing these cops.
