When I think about it, my interest in Biology all started when my mother told me that she was expecting identical twins. At the time I only had a very basic understanding of reproduction and I remember being utterly baffled, thinking 'How can there possibly be two?' Being inquisitive, I began reading lots of multiple pregnancy books and gained a greater understanding of how the zygote must split in two in the very early stages of pregnancy. I am still very interested in this area, as what causes the split is still a mystery amongst scientists. Nowadays my interest in Biology is much wider, for example the GM crop debate, stem cell research and of course evolution of life on Earth. The role requires me to put into use team work and communication skills, things that will be vital for laboratory based assignments, whilst helping younger students who are struggling to build their confidence with Biology. I also believe this illustrates my passion and commitment to the subject as I am willing to take an active role. I have participated in several debating competitions whilst representing my school. Debating is a particular extra-curricular interest of mine that I fully intend to pursue further at university. From debating I have learnt new skills, such as being able to formulate arguments on a wide range of topics, to communicating these views in a pressured situation. One of the things that I look forward to most at university is being in an environment where intellectual debate is encouraged, another motive for applying.
A Biology degree for me would be a pathway to being part of the wider scientific community who search for the truth about the world around us. I wish to dedicate myself to furthering our understanding of living organisms. - In a normal blood sample, there should be a range of hemoglobin, RBC, MCV, WBC, and platelets. Hemoglobin’s function is to carry oxygen from the respiratory organs to the rest of the body. RBC’s function is to remove carbon dioxide from the body. MCV’s just refer to the average volume of red blood cells, which remove carbon dioxide. WBCs are extremely important for the body. They protect the body from infections, diseases, and foreign invaders. Platelets are also important to the body and their function is to prevent bleeding.

My affinity for biology comes from my childhood days that I spent watching dissection of rats and looking at the cellular structure under microscope. My mother, being a professor of biology regularly used to take me with her to a Biology lab and that is where my journey towards medical career began. Early on in my life, my family went through a long agony of my father's illness and death. This became a solitary stimulus for me to take up this profession and a driving force to strive for excellence. Going through that turmoil of recurrent hospital visits gave me a firsthand experience of an anguishing family.

As far back as I can remember I had a strong affinity for science. I recall having an avid curiosity in biology and chemistry while I attended catholic school. Our congregation placed an emphasis on missionary work and social service, and growing up I felt very connected to that experience. Medicine as a profession was something I was exposed to early on as many of my family members are physicians. I became even more interested in medicine when as a teenager my dad became critically ill and I wanted desperately to know what was happening and what needed to be done to get him better.
When I was younger I always found myself interested in science of all varieties. In elementary school, I aspired to be a scientist, but I was not sure what career path to take. In 10th grade, I found myself in Pre-AP Biology thinking that biology, although fascinating and complex, made perfect sense to me. I took AP Biology during my Junior year and felt that same pull. I loved biology and was certain that I wanted to study biology in college. My big question was what could I possibly do with a Biology degree.
As a food science major with an interest in nutritional sciences the regulation of lipid synthesis would be a comprehensive topic that would allow me to develop my research abilities in a setting applicable to both my major and my interests. Using molecular biology and chemical processes, assisting in determining what mechanism is used to how phosphorylated PA phosphatase would allow me to learn both new lab techniques and new concepts in the fields of microbiology and biochemistry. My interests in food science have always been with either food microbiology or food chemistry with some interest in sensory science. I hope to explore all of these fields of food science during my time here at Rutgers to aid me in finding what I love to do. Along

At that time I had barely been a week into the Advanced Biology class I was taking and even though my friends were with me, I remember that I hated it because I thought it was boring. This changed after our teacher showed us a documentary on the theory of evolution, where I was introduced to Charles Darwin.
