Biological engineering is a type of engineering that uses biological and medical science to create products ranging from medicines to genetically-altered animals and plants in order to solve medical problems that is occurring in the world as of right now in hopes to cure diseases such as AIDs, STIs, and even cancer. A biological engineer’s job is to analyze and design solutions to problems in biology and medicine with intentions to advance the quality of medical care. Biological engineers usually work in places like universities, hospitals, research facilities, and government areas and they normally work full time. In order to pursue this career, you need a bachelor’s degree. Locations of employment occur in at least 30 states such as Texas, Florida, and California (please refer to the second link of the “works cited” page for the full list) in the urban areas. As of May 2012(due to lack of reliable sources for the pay of 2014), the pay people receive from this career varies depending on location and the industry. Hourly pay, according to the “U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics” (BLS), ranges from $41.81 to $43.84 or $86,960 to $139,450 per year with the highest wages coming from Colorado ($104,550) and Minnesota ($103,440) while the lower pay states ($58,380-$74,030) are reported to come exclusively from Arizona, Nebraska, Indiana, Kentucky, South Carolina and Oklahoma. It is also shown that the longer you work in biological engineering, the more money you can receive as if you work for less than a year, you are expected to earn between $40,709-$79,631 while if you worked for more than 20 years, expect your salary to be in between $49,833-$127,477.

An animal species known as the Pyrenean Ibex was confirmed to be extinct however scientists have attempted to clone DNA from the remaining females before the species went extinct. This led to a problem if the scientists successfully created the ibex: the species will continue to be extinct do to the lack of a cloned male as technology was not quite advanced yet. The cloning project happened anyway and during the project, only one ibex managed to be born alive, however it died 7 minutes later after birth due to severe lung problems due to having its cells combined with goats to preserve the specimen.
With the steady advancement of biotechnology in the future, there will be plenty of medicine that will be able to cure previously incurable diseases. In addition to this, the health care of sick patients will dramatically improve in the future.

Fredrick made a ground breaking discovery with diabetes and provided a treatment and saved millions. Gene therapy began to prove itself in medicine as it reversed affects from a previously untreatable disease. Genetic engineering still has long ways to go, however it is a promising treatment that will bring us more treatment and cures in the future.

In the essay “Bringing Them Back to Life” by Carl Zimmer, he writes about scientists that found a way to bring extinct animals back to life. In 2003, French and Spanish scientists revived a wild goat called a bucardo. They did this by implanting the bucardo DNA into goat eggs that were emptied of their own DNA. The implantation was unsuccessful because none of the bucardos survived. Recently, with all the new technological advances, scientists have been able to increase the effectiveness of the cloning. Although the process has been made easier, there are still multiple problems that arise with de-extinction. The author argues against de-extinction because once the species are brought back to life they run a high risk of becoming extinct again.
Modern-day genetic technology has granted mankind with the opportunity to bring back extinct species from the dead. If humans have come to possess the DNA from an extinct animal population, it is possible to create an identical clone of the animal in question, effectively “bringing it back from the dead”. Many ethical dilemmas surround the practice of de-extinction, and rightfully so. First, I’ll attempt to explain which methods and procedures will be the future of modern medicine. The procedures that will be the future of modern medicine currently fall into the realms of taboo and fictional. These procedures encompass every aspect of medical science from exploration of the human body, curing of diseases, to improving a person’s quality of life. Many of these procedures are not very well known while a few have been in the spotlight. These procedures are; cloning, nano-robotics, retro-viruses, and genetic manipulation via gene-specific medications.
