Biography Of Selen The Queen Of Tejano Music: Selena

Selena is referred to as the Queen of Tejano music. Her father, Abraham, wanted her and her older siblings, A.B. and Suzette, to be interested in music. They started out when they were young, and later, A.B. helped Selena create her music. Selena was very famous and not only did she sing, she also opened a boutique. Sadly, her life can to an end, but here, we will talk about her successes.

When Selena was only six years old, her father had recognized her music talents. He decided to open the family restaurant where Selena would sing, A.B. would be on bass guitar, and Suzette would be on drums. Their band was called Selena y Los Dinos. Her father had a group with the Dinos that he met in high school and became the Los Dinos. They were good, but, in the end, they got treated poorly. They experienced racism and discrimination because they were of Mexican descent. Abraham had the children perform at small shows and sometimes the people didn't like what Selena was singing.

As Selena got older, she started to perform at different places.

She had to drop out of school in eighth grade so, she finished high school online. Abraham took an old school bus and turned it into their family tour bus which they named Big Bertha. As they traveled, they had a hard time getting by with enough food and gas for the bus. Her father had the idea Selena should sing in Spanish so, he helped her with speaking Spanish and singing. On her way, they meet a guy by the name of Chris Pérez. Selena’s mother approved of the relationship, but, her father didn't. So, Abraham threatened to disband the group if the relationship continued. Selena and Chris loved each other so much that they went behind her father's back and got

married.
In the end, Abraham accepted the fact and got over it. Now, Selena had released her third album and it was known as “her breakthrough album”. One of her songs,”Como La Flor”,helped her get on the Latin music charts. It also became very popular in Mexico. Then, she made her fourth album called Amor Prohibido and it was made in March 1994. It reached 500,000 copies. Selena was not only interested in her music, but in fashion. She opened up two boutiques called Selena ect.. One was in Corpus Christi and the other one was in San Antonio. The family had hired a manager and her name is Yolanda Saldívar.

Finally, after opening boutiques and making albums that had sold many copies, Selena won the 37th Grammy Awards for the Best Mexican-American album. After that, Yolanda started to take money from Selena’s boutiques. One day Selena confronted her at the Days Inn. When Yolanda pulled a gun from her purse, Selena tried to run, but, Yolanda shot her.
