What words come to mind when the words Civil Rights come to mind. Famous people from that time period, like Martin Luther King Jr. Or maybe nothing at all. What I am here to talk about is how Martin Luther King Jr. impacted society, and nation, more than Rosa Parks. Even though Rosa Parks started the Bus-Boycott, Martin lead the protest, and he did an incredible job because it stopped segregation in public transportation. He never lost a spark of hope until he was assassinated. He also inspired other leaders to continue his work. He also was a very hard worker. Do not believe me that he influenced society more, than keen your ears to what I have to tell you, and you just might change your thoughts.
He always had hope in his heart that he would succeed, even when things looked grim. In an article called “Civil Rights Biography: Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.”, it is mentioned that he used his own faith, and peaceful methods from Mahatma Gandhi. Another article, “Civil Rights Biography: Rosa Parks” it never mentions that she used any methods or her own faith to guide her. Also, Martin always did what he thought was right, and he showed his most hope on a march called “The March on Washington.” He had his most famous speech, with the words of “I have a dream!” It was an inspiring moment in the civil rights movement. He always had something called hope.

Like I said in the second paragraph, he used peace methods, like peaceful protests. In the March on Washington, 250,000 people showed up, to get inspired by his powerful words. In the article “Civil Rights Biography: Rosa Parks.” It was never told if she made any speeches, so my inference is she never did any speeches in front of crowds. That means she only inspired people one time. Thats a big difference from the many speeches Martin did, to zero that Rosa did. Martin always inspired others until his last
Martin Luther King Jr. came from a middle class home with two loving and supportive parents. He was born in Georgia, January 15, 1929. Dr. King Jr. was one of three children. The impact he had on black and white audiences changed the way they viewed segregation and unity. He was such a revolutionary orator that he won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1964. Martin Luther King Jr. was the living definition of a prototypical nonconformist, which is a person who does not change their initial thoughts or actions based off of what others do. The reason prototypical nonconformist defines him so well is because his speeches were written to inspire all races, especially young African Americans to use non-violence to resolve any issues and to never lose sight of their dreams. His most famous “I Have a Dream” speech spoke about uplifting one another to help achieve each other’s goals with the absence of hatred and violence. He also brought forth the knowledge that God does not see any race more superior than an...

The civil rights movement was a popular historical movement that worked to allow African Americans to have equal rights and privileges as U.S. citizens. The movement can be defined as a struggle against racial segregation and discrimination that began in the 1950s. Although the origins of the civil rights movement go back to the 1800s, the movement peaked in the 1950s and 1960s. African American men and women, along with whites, organized and led the movement from local to national levels. Many actions of the civil rights movement were concentrated through legal means such as negotiations, appeals, and nonviolent protests. When we think of leaders or icons of the movement we usually think of Rosa Parks and Martin Luther King Jr. Even though Rosa Parks and Martin Luther King Jr. are important figures, their participation in the movement was minimal compared to other unknown or forgotten figures. Howell Raines’s, My Soul Is Rested, contains recollections of voices from followers of the civil rights movement. These voices include students, lawyers, news reporters, and civil right activists. Although the followers of the movement were lesser known, the impact they made shaped the society we live in today.

He was a minister who believed that there was four basic steps to a nonviolent campaign which are: “collection of the facts to determine whether injustices are alive, negotiation, self-purification, and direct action,” (King). Therefore, he constantly used these steps to perform sit-ins and marches in order to face the unjust racism he and other black people in America were facing at the time. Similarly, he had to use these tactics because the whites in society refused to listen to King when he wanted to negotiate with them (King). Dr. King made many sacrifices throughout his
The Civil Rights Movement is one of the most important events of the history of the United States. In his Letter from Birmingham Jail, he addresses his fellow clergyman on the topic of segregation and the protests against it. King is well known for his nonviolent protests, and even the participants of the event have to ask themselves during a period of self-purification, “‘Are you able to accept blows without retaliating? ', and ‘Are you able to endure the ordeal of jail? ' “(King). Martin Luther King was one of the greatest civil right activists in American history. Martin Luther King impacted American society in many ways and one of the most important things he did for America was weakening racism in America. At the time when he was living, colored people living America were treated differently with white people. For example colored people needed a pass to go through certain places, they could not go to the same school as white people and it was much harder for colored people to get a job compare to white people. Martin Luther king thought these were wrong. He also thought these were against American dream. For him American dream meant every people having equal rights, opportunity and freedom. What was happening in America were completely against these. To fix this problem, Martin Luther King moved around the country and did nonviolent protest and organized a peaceful marching which attracted national attention showing brutality of police that were trying to stop the march. Martin Luther King also delivered a lot of speeches that inspired many people all over the world and one of his speeches include “I have a Dream.” One of the most famous speeches in America. What would life be like without Dr. King in America’s history?
The topic I choose to talk about is Martin Luther King Jr. because of his strong wisdom and bravery. I really admire Martin Luther King’s way of handling things in life because when he was no longer allowed to play with his friends at an young age and also when he was sent to jail for leading a march through Birmingham he was always peaceful about things. The way he chose to look at people who disrespected him and his race was amazing because many people couldn’t do something like that. He showed the world that you didn’t have to condone in violence for you to get your point across or if you’re not treated fairly. Why does the world see Martin Luther King as the most valued American? The reason why I think he is so valuable is because he focused
Martin Luther King was such an inspirational leader because he appealed to not only the black population, but he appealed to all people who believed in equality and freedom. He was viewed as a clean cut, all round good man, and unlike other leaders in the movement for racial equality, did not have un-orthodox, radical views. Since people did not see him as a threat, but as a peaceful man, leading a movement, he was easy to support. For example: People are more likely to agree with a man who explains something in a non-violent, nice way, than someone who uses mud slinging, name calling, and violence to express a view.
“His moral leadership stirred the conscience of the nation and helped bring about the nation and helped bring about the passage of the Civil Rights Acts of 1964.” This shows that all the work and effort Martin put in changing the nation payed off. He brung over hundreds of people together to fight for freedom and he delivered his I Have a Dream speech. As stated, “...Let freedom ring from every hill and molehill…” This reveals that Martin wanted everyone to be free. He wanted everyone to be equal no matter the color of their skin. To sum it up, Martin had a dream to get freedom and we got it.
Dr. Martin Luther King lived in a time of Racial Segregation. He grew up with people scorning him simply because of the color of his skin. When he began a family of his own, he had the dream that life should be better than he had it. He marched protests and gave speeches, speaking his dream to everyone who would listen. His most famous speech being the “ I have a dream speech… ”. This speech spoke of his dream that all men were equal whether they were white, or black, or any other color of skin. That was his American Dream.
