Dwight Eisenhower had a significant impact on the U.S. Military as both an officer in the United States Army, as well as the president of the United States. As Supreme Allied Commander in Europe during WWII, General Eisenhower was the leader in charge of planning Operation Overlord or D-Day (Ambrose, 1983). This was a complex, large-scale operation that put many lives on the line. Sending thousands of military forces to storm the beaches of Normandy and face death was not an easy task. Operation Overlord was successful, and its success gained Eisenhower fame.

First, I conducted research and found some interesting things about MacArthur that I did not know. MacArthur was the commander of Allied Forces in the Pacific during World War 2. His family had a firm military background. His father had been awarded for his service in the Union Army during the Civil War. MacArthur attended West Texas Military Academy and played several sports. After high school he enrolled in the Military Academy at West Point and graduated with honors. Following graduation he was hired as a junior office in the Army Corps of Engineers and spent a long time accomplishing diverse duties (Douglas MacArthur Biography). To many people MacArthur was considered skilled, straightforward, and self-centered. His
It is clear that the two generals did not care for each other before World War II even started, as they “rubbed each other the wrong way” when they first met while stationed at Fort Leavenworth together from 1908-1911. When Marshall became MacArthur’s superior, MacArthur would say, “My worst enemy has always been behind me.” The two had their quarrels from the time they met up until the end of World War I, which had been evident for many spectators to witness. However, both MacArthur and Marshall were able to put their hostility towards each other aside when they had to focus on the task at hand in order to help the American military progress. There were times in which General Marshall would encourage and support the decisions MacArthur made, and there were times in which Marshall would not support the actions of MacArthur during the course of World War II. The support for MacArthur endured during the first half of America’s participation in World War II, whereas Marshall’s support and encouragement had become minimal towards the end when MacArthur’s “egotistic” attitude had taken the best of
Dwight D. Eisenhower, the Supreme Commander of the Allied Forces during World War II, was close to not achieving commander status. If this had happened, a different person would have taken control over Operations Torch, Avalanche, and Overlord. Eisenhower, in fact, was the key component in the victory for the Allies. Had he not been assigned by George Marshall to a planning officer in Washington D.C., President Harry Truman might not have saw Eisenhower’s potential. Eisenhower’s past 30 years of military experience, his strong mental and social stature, and his ideas and tactics were all key factors for his triumphant victory in World War II.
Clancy grew up with interests and intentions surrounding the military. He was born Thomas Leo Clancy, Jr. (“Tom” Web) on April 12, 1947 (Lansford 381) in Baltimore, Maryland (Byers 70). His parents both had occupations; his father was a mail carrier and his mother was a credit manager. Growing up, Clancy had a love for reading as he often read (“Tom” Web). He enjoyed reading science fiction and military related books (Lansford 382).
He was superintendent for the 3 years. He instituted reforms in teaching methods, curriculum, and standards of performance that began to improve West Point to an academic respectability badly eroded by wartime policies. During this period of time MacArthur was promoted to Brigadier General of the Army. He then got married to Louise Cromwell Brooks, his first wife. MacArthur held many military posts and also led the U.S. Delegation to the American Olympics, in Amsterdam. He served for two hours of duty in the Philippines, in 1928. General Douglas MacArthur was a very important General of World War II because he helped liberate countries that were under Japanese rule. For Example, General Douglas helped liberate the Philippines from Japanese rulership after it had fallen in 1944. According to the article, “DOUGLAS MACARTHUR” it stated, “He went on to serve as superintendent of West Point, chief of staff of the Army and field marshal of the Philippines, where he helped organize a military.” This is pure evidence that
There were many important leaders in World War I and II fighting for the United States, but none had as much influence on the outcome of the wars as General Douglas MacArthur. Eisenhower was known for his military command and his D-Day leading role. He is well known for everything that he has done. First, Dwight joined the military school, which led him, to becoming a soldier. Eisenhower started out as the second lieutenant. However, his military accomplishments increased, leading to countless promotions, going to the first lieutenant, a major, and then an executive officer directly under a general’s command by the end of World War I. Dwight had son who was just a small child at that time, but unfortunately, the young son passed away. A year later, Dwight had a new son. Dwight was not done with his military career yet. Ike went on into yet another war, World War II. At that place, Dwight became a brigadier general and went up in rank to one of the top positions for a general. Dwight was in charge of D-Day, too, in which a large number of soldiers and ships were gathered for a single but extremely strong attack. Afterwards, Dwight got out of active duty and Republicans asked him to run for president, which Dwight
