I chose this movie because I was very interested in the description that it gave. Also, when you hear about a parent leaving their family, it is usually the father. This movie explores the struggles that the family faces from the divorce and learning to adapt to living without the wife and mother. The main characters consist of the parents, Ted and Joanna Kramer, and their son, Billy Kramer. Mr. and Mrs. Kramer had been married for several years since Billy had been born. Mr. Kramer was an advertising executive in the Manhattan area, but Mrs. Kramer has not been working for a while out of respect for her husband. Kramer explained to Billy that Mrs. Kramer had left because the two of them had not been on good terms for a while. Billy was extremely hurt by the news and wanted to know when his mother would be back. However, his father did not really know the answer to this question. For a little while after Mrs. Kramer had left, Billy and his father struggled to get along. During this time, Billy needed to feel emotion and comfort from his father and he did not get much of that in the beginning. Billy had no one to vent to or help him realize that it is not the end of the world. It was many things that Billy had gotten used to the way his mother handled things and felt that she was better at it. Billy had to be patient and accept the way his father would now handle things. Not only did Billy have to learn to be patient, so did his father. Mr. Kramer had to get into the habit of being a full-time single father. Mr. Kramer went from being more of a work-oriented man to a family-oriented man. As months had passed, the two of them started to build a strong relationship and maintain a special bond. Meanwhile Billy and his father were building a better relationship, Mrs. Kramer was plotting to come back and take full custody of her son. By this time, Billy had learned to live happily without his mother, only for her to come back and disrupt his life again with another traumatic event.
