Organization in Crisis. The name of the organization, or in this instance person, experiencing the crisis is Bill Cosby. On the cusps of his television comeback, several allegations of sexual assault have remerged against Bill Cosby.
Situation Summary. The Bill Cosby sexual assault scandal has been a culmination of long standing allegations starting back in 1969(CITATION). The story has garnered mounting attention recently dues to the ease of access of information that the internet provides. Within the span of one month, claims have nearly tripled. According to Time, sixteen women have come forth twelve of whom have claimed to have been drugged by Mr. Cosby(CITATION). The person who sparked the topic is comedian Hannibal Buress, who was filmed at a comedy club mocking Mr. Cosby and calling him a rapist. To combat this incident, Mr. Cosby’s PR team launched an online meme generator, which backfired immediately with references to rape. These allegations, although past the statute of limitations in many states, have cost Mr. Cosby the opportunity to further his business. Since the allegations have reemerged Netflix has cancelled Mr. Cosby’s comedy special, NBC has halted the production of a new TV project staring Mr. Cosby and TV Land has scraped re-runs of The Cosby Show (CITATION).

This crisis could have been prevented. If Mr. Cosby had shut down the allegations in the first scandal in 1969, I believe further rumors would not have emerged. The reboot of these rumors could have also been prevented back in 2005 when Andrea Constand filed a lawsuit against Bill Cosby. He settled the lawsuit, for the same allegations, suspiciously outside of court (CITATION). Working under the assumption that Mr. Cosby is guilty, he could have prevented this crisis by not drugging, raping women, or paying them for their company. Under the assumptions that all these allegations are false, this crisis could have been avoided with successfully proving his innocence in a court of
Ghettos, low-riders, hip-hop, rap, drugs and crime, it has got to be a Black man right? Saggy pants, unintelligible language, lazy, and the lists continue to both stereotype and describe Blacks. Do Black Americans perpetuate their own discrimination? Are Black Americans creating their own low status in society? Black people around the world have been hypnotized into believing all their failures in life are due to discrimination, but are they correct? Blacks are often their own worst enemies, often the cause of their own disasters, and many don’t see that until it’s too late, if ever. Discrimination and prejudice are imposed upon Blacks, often because the culture they live in is not “acceptable” to the dominant society. On the other hand, an understandable reason for Blacks actions is often due to unattainable opportunities towards the American Dream.
Chris Tucker has a net worth of -$11.5 million. He is a comedian and actor.
If you visit http://www.cc.com/shows/chappelle-s-show, there is a listing of Dave Chappelle’s shows. You will notice by the titles e.g. The Niggar Family, that Chappelle is not just being funny but is attempting to make his audience consider the effects of certain social practices in our society. The Black White Supremacist is one of his skits; Clayton Bigsby is the name of the main character. Bigsby is blind. He was brought up in an all-white school for blind children. The director said it was easier to tell him that he was white like everyone else. He absorbed the white racist dogma he was around his whole life and as an adult, he marries a white woman, spouts racist views publically, and writes books containing racist sentiments. His downfall comes when he is found by Ted Wallace, a reporter for Frontline, and goes on a book writing tour where his identity is unwittingly revealed. Wallace’s supposed serious interview of Clayton Bigsby is laughable. Ted Wallace is the instrument used to expose the stupidity of the white power movement.
It has come to my attention, as your media advisor, that you have been involved in a sex scandal of massive proportion. Due to the pictures found on your phone and the recent pregnancy of the same young woman, you must find a solution to clear your name to the public(The Associated Press). There are many options that you might be willing to look into to clear your name under these unfortunate circumstances, but in this case I would refer to the ideas of Elizabeth Kolbert for assistance. In her book "Stooping to Conquer" she claims that the best option to relieve your name of this scandal is through " comedy that makes fun of oneself". By following the ideas of Kolbert you will be
Many were understandable angered because of Cosby’s speech. Bill Cosby in his success has seemed to forgotten that not everyone has the opportunities he has had. He forgets that not everyone is able to get out of the bad situations that they were dealt with or have fallen into. Parenting is not to be blames for these issues, but society as a whole should be blamed for having failed to give these children the
The double murder case of O.J. Simpson is one that will live on forever and one that will never be forgotten. On June 12, 1994 Nicole Brown Simpson and Ronald Goldman were found dead at Nicole’s home in Los Angeles. According to Doug Linder, it was “most likely a single male that came through the back entrance of Nicole Brown Simpson’s condominium” (Linder). Since they did not have any other suspects they went right to Orenthal James Simpson who was Nicole Simpson’s ex-husband. Law enforcement had seen him as suspicious and they had charged him with both of the murders. The case had gone to trial and it was the prosecutor’s job to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that Simpson was guilty and that he had done the crime. Simpson had what was called
According to A Novel Approach to Politics “Questions about the very nature of reality seem to be common in fiction of all sorts.” Especially, The Boondocks, a fictional cartoon, uses satire to describe real events that happen in society. The episode I tuned into was “The Trial of R. Kelly”, which explained how R. Kelly won his trial and the views of the people about his case. In the episode, the people outside the court house showed different cognitive frameworks of how they view R. Kelly situation. In other words, the media made sense of the reality of R. Kelly situation in different ways because of the media wanted to select certain information. In this paper, I will explain how the media exemplified mediated reality and agreement reality in the “The Trial of R. Kelly” episode of The Boondocks.
According to CNN who interviewed five of the women that was ask why they took so long to report the allegations against Bill Cosby. One of the women stated she didn’t want to lose her job and she realizes he was famous and no one would believe her charged against Bill Cosby. The other three women decided they no longer want to remain silent to protect other women of becoming a victim of Bill Cosby sexual assault. Many of the women stated they would go out of their way not to see Bill Cosby on TV because it brings back such awful memories of the alleged drugged and sexual attack by Mr. Cosby.
Just like Bill Cosby is and was a role model for many his actions were justified by society, however this does not mean the actual definition of rape has changed. Just like stated in the quote, many will be justified, but not necessarily meaning that it is correct. What our current society is “hiding under the rug” and pretending like it is not there, not only shows us how controversial and twisted it is, but also shows us how much of a change we actually need
Two dead bodies and one very guilty man, but no jail time. The OJ Simpson murder trial in 94’ may have been the biggest happening in that year. The bodies of Nicole Brown Simpson and Ron Goldman were found stabbed to death in Nicole’s home in LA. OJ was boarding a flight when the murders went public; he quickly became the first suspect in the case. The trial went on and the jury found him not guilty of the murders, despite overwhelming evidence showing his connection to the murder. In the controversial case of the killings of Nicole Simpson and Ron Goldman, the innocent ruling incorrectly acquitted O.J. Simpson; OJ killed both of them because he possessed a motive, attempted to escape and cover up the crime,
Ennis Cosby, Bill Cosby only son was shot to dead changing a tire in a California Highway. Also, Autumn Jackson claimed that Cosby was his paternity father and claimed 40million dollars so she wouldn’t say anything to the media. Cosby admitted that he had an affair with Autumn’s mother, but he claimed that she wasn’t his daughter. She went to prison for 26 months for extortion. This was not the worst thing that happened to Cosby. In 2014, comedian Hannibal Buress brought new attention to an earlier case against Cosby for sexual harassment. More than 50 women open in the same year about Cosby having any type of sexual assault towards them within his lifetime. “The snowball effect led to court records from Constand’s first complaint being unsealed in the summer of 2015—including a deposition in which Cosby admitted to drugging women he wanted to have sex with. In December, Cosby was formally charged with aggravated indecent assault”. Hillar Busis, 2016 (Bibliography.com,
The trickster character is often use in African American Comedy. The definition of a trickster is a person who plays tricks who also is a deceiver, cheat and a fraud. In literature, a trickster is a supernatural figure appearing in various guises and typically engaging in mischievous activities. Tricksters usually succeed by outsmarting or out thinking their opponents. The trickster figure originated in African American culture, through African folklore. When Africans were force to come to the New World for slavery, they brought over stories and tales with them. As black slaves gained literacy and began to write about their experiences, they incorporated figures from oral tradition into their written creations.
Most argue that if people can joke about cancer, dead babies and racism, rape should not be an exception. However, the concern is that rape jokes mock rape victims and normalize sexual assault. Renowned stand up comedian Daniel Tosh received backlash for jokingly saying, “Wouldn’t it be funny if that girl got raped by, like, five guys right now? Like right now?” The girl in this case referred to a member of the audience who had informed him that rape jokes are never funny. The public outrage that followed caused Tosh to tweet that his point on making rape jokes was that “there are awful things in the world but you can still make jokes about them”. While what he said is most definitely true, how he framed his joke was certainly not funny, especially since it publicly humiliated a woman. Rape is never funny and joking about it validates rapists, undermining the seriousness of
The guilt of the player involved in many of these cases can be irrelevant. As one sponsorship industry expert says: 'A sports star may be cleared of any wrongdoing following the emergence of a scandal, but would you put him back on the road for your brand? I know I wouldn't.'
1 in 5 women will experience sexual assault as an adult (cite). To me, that statistic is mindboggling. I’m not sure people are really aware of the fact that in our society women are raped every single day or maybe they are aware but it doesn’t truly affect their lives until it happens to them or someone they know. Rape is a serious crime. I’m not sure there is a worse crime than rape. Rape is when one person violates the personal space of another. More times than not the attacker is male and the victim is female. With rape not only are you at risk of pregnancy and sexually transmitted diseases but also your piece of mind is taken away. Women can experience symptoms of PTSD after being raped. Rape is crime where the act in itself is awful, but also dealing with it after is very painful as well. If our society were more knowledgeable about rape maybe it wouldn’t happen as much. Knowing the difference between the different characteristics of a serial rapist versus a single victim rapist could potentially help women or men identify their attacker, if they know what to look for. This may be more of a struggle for if the attacker is a stranger or a one-time offender, but if women are able to give details about their attack, this could help the criminal justice system find these criminals after the fact. In this paper, I will explain and critique three different studies that were conducted comparing and contrasting serial rapists and single-victim rapists.
