He didn’t live to put the final touches on the album however, the album was the last thing left before Biggie’s death and perfected every single aspect that rappers go through. “Life After Death” has been acclaimed by many music writers in the industry as “one of the seminal mafioso” rap albums. Also, his album “Coloring Book” that was released in May 2016, still was thirty-third on the Billboard 200 albums at the end of 2017, which shows how his music has a lasting effect on people. What makes all of these accomplishments impressive is that Chance is an independent artist, meaning that he is not signed to any record label. So, it would be extremely tough for him to break through as an artist because he doesn’t have the big record label promoting him whereas others in the same field do. Chance is the first independent artist to be really well known in the industry, so his path will hopefully pave the way for the future generations, telling them that you don’t need the record label to become

Music can rock your world, enlighten your mind and change your perspective. When you think of rap music who comes first to mind? Without hesitation, it must be the self acclaimed best rapper alive, Lil Wayne. He alone can make such statements as “My picture should be in the dictionary next to the definition of definition” (Wayne, “Shoot Me Down”). Lil Wayne is a prominent force in the rap world. His debut Album in 1999, Tha Block is Hot went double platinum upon its release and even his lowest selling album is still certified as gold according to the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). Rollingstone Magazine declares “Lil Wayne is one of the most popular — and prolific — recording artists in the world” (Kreps). As a first album you would not expect a person to do so well and win so many music awards, that is why it caught me off guard when I first listened to this album. The album was well composed and was very well thought out, which led him to become very successful on the release of his first album. As a first album, I expected it to be just okay and have maybe one hit song. I also expected it to be a one hit wonder and not a Grammy winner. My expectations were completely wrong and he completely did the opposite of what I expected him to do. I chose to listen to this album because it was something new and it was a genre that I started to get to like before him. So, I decided to give his album a chance and I wanted to see the different music styles he puts towards his songs.
