Juvenile Blueprint Program: Big Brothers Big Sisters of America
The program Big Brothers Big Sisters of America is a successful community mentoring program that has been in existence for more than 100 years. In fact, this program started as two separate programs back in 1904. The two programs were the Big Brothers movement, which formed as the result of a court clerk’s concern for troubled boys he saw coming through the courts and the other program was the Catholic Big Sisters, which formed for the same reasons except for the girls. These two programs sought volunteers throughout their communities to help these troubled children who seemed to just need a positive adult influence in their lives to help them stay out of trouble. These two programs joined together in 1977 to form what is known know as the Big Brothers Big Sisters of America. Not only does this successful program extend throughout the 50 states but also operates in 12 other countries throughout the world.
This program begins by targeting youth who are in need in their communities; with the help of their parents and law enforcement partners.

...to be enrolled in the program, the process will begin of engaging the teens for their social development, providing alternatives to crime like sport activities, enrichment workshops on topics like science and technology, and partnering teens with mentors and role models to hold them accountable and counsel them on their life choices. How would a society mature if it did not advance alongside technology? This is one of the questions impressed upon me while reading an excerpt from American poet and author Robert Bly’s book The Sibling Society. Bly defines a sibling society as a society that is filled with half-mature adults filling the void left by improper role models. They use internet and electronic entertainment as a substitution for the values and convictions that would have been imparted in them by an authoritative figure. Although we have an alarming amount of immature adults, we are not becoming a sibling society due to technology. With the use of technology, recent generations are now growing up with an awareness of the issues in the world around them, helping them
People’s lives are changed every day by their actions and experiences. This past summer, I participated in a community service project, an experience that opened my eyes in many ways. I was a volunteer at the County Memorial Hospital. In my time as a volunteer at the hospital, I was able to meet patients and staff members from all over the world and learn about their life experiences. Listening to all of their stories has made me truly appreciate everything which I have.
The reason for this program is to use innovative approaches in developing programs, which will teach youth alternatives to violence, substance abuse, anger issues, low self-esteem, and the consequences as a result of making bad choices. During, the program non-violence, team building, leadership development and communication skills is promoted. A neutral and positive setting is provided for young people, so they are able to come together from different gangs throughout the city to work on their issues and programs together. When a youth is referred to the program they have an Intake-Assessment with the family. “Together, a Program Contract/Service Plan will be developed based on the individual needs of the youth/family. If the youth is on probation/parole all requirements of the courts will be incorporated into their contract. Services offered are case management, mediation, innovative focus groups, presentations, collaboration with other youth service organizations, and attendance at court hearings” (Stop ABQ Gangs,
What is childhood? To some its the upbringing and quality of life given to the child within the first several years of the child's life. In its simplest form, childhood is classified as the age span which ranges from birth to adolescence. During those years of childhood, most children go through various different physical and cognitive changes. According to the famous cognitive developmental theorist Jean Piaget, in psychology, childhood consists of four separate stages of development. Those stages are sensorimotor, pre-operational, concrete operational, and formal operational stages. The sensorimotor stage extends from both to when the child first starts to grasp the concept of language. In the pre-operational stage is when the child starts
Parasocial relationships are one-sided friendships that are formed in which one person is acknowledged, but the other person is unaware of the other’s existence. Some people develop these relationships to compensate for the lack of activity in their social lives, and other form these bonds because of pure admiration or respect. Regardless of the reason, parasocial relationships can be formed by people of all ages- from infants to adults- and are motivated by the increasing use of technology.

A parent-teacher conference is a short meeting or conference between the parents and teachers of students to discuss children’s progress at school and find solutions to academic or behavioral problems. Just by the definition that was stated above, one would believe that more parents would schedule an appointment with the teacher to see how their children are doing. Most do not; some parents have very good reasons while others not so much. Parent-teacher conferences have many benefits, parents get the teachers opinion, it is a face to face conferences allowing for no miscommunication that might have happened otherwise. The conference goal is to find a plan to help the student.
